Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kgore - 2012-09-26 11:18 PM AAANNNNNNNDDDDDDD--------I am a student manatee again! I got an email this morning telling me they approved my appeal. Hopefully, the financial aid money they approved will still include the extra bit for books, parking, and crap like that....I kinda laughed when I saw it too. Late last night, I could NOT sleep, I just had too much going on in my head. So I kept thinking and thinking--I finally just said "screw it--I am done with school--they'll say no, and I will move on...I will have weekends again, I will be able to focus on work stuff much better; it will be an IMPROVEMENT!" I actually was believing it and looking forward to being free from school. Hm. Maybe I should have done that a month ago. Go figure. I guess that means I should absolutely NOT believe that I will get that job in Seattle, right? So, of course, this all meant that I had to get some research done and right a solid book report tonight. Cause its due tomorrow...Sweep out the old stress, bring on the new stress! Oh well. 2 months left for this semester--then only one more after that! Thank you manatees for putting up with me recently! Excellent! Now get busy and get writing. |

He let me check out the tooth and tissues that he cut away (and a bit o' bone as anticipated) and damn they were disgusting. |

I remember watching "Bizarre Foods" thinking oooh, that looks REALLY good! "You know you are really hungry when...." Okay, off to classes for me... |

![]() | ![]() Alright, I am once again going to give you my weekly track practice update. It's hard to talk to anyone about this stuff because they just don't understand, so ... sorry pod, you have to listen to me.
I had a choice last night to either hang back with the group that is a little bit slower or move a group ahead (who are admittedly better runners than I.) "Well sh*t," I thought, "I don't come all the way back here to take it easy." So I joined the other group and off we went. The workout was a 3.5 mile progressive run, going faster with each mile then faster yet with the last .5 miles. We did: 6:46 6:38 6:30 and 3:11 for the final half I was barely hanging on (per usual) and since I don't run with a watch I am at the other people's mercy. It was hell. Every second of it. But it's hard to explain, it was also somewhat euphoric. I know ... After that we had to jog to "the hill" (by the way, this group doesn't jog. They run. You can't fool me.) We had to do 5 repeats at full strength, just pushing as hard as we could to the top of the hill. It was dark by now and the hill was a gravel trail that is pretty steep. Anyway, I beat the 5 ladies and one guy in our group every single repeat! Ahhh the small victories!!!!!!!!!! Our coach said he is really happy with my progress in a short period of time BUT, (agh, the dreaded but!!!) I need to desperately work on my flexibility. Damn, busted! It's so true though. |

In the context of running he said my inflexibility is limiting my stride. He said I am doing more work than I should and once I become more flexible I will have a little more flow. If that makes sense. He worded it really well and it's unfortunate I can't remember exactly how he said it but that is the gist. Edited by Asalzwed 2012-09-27 4:23 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kate, great to hear about school. Now off to the hard part! Or is this the easy part? Salty, I agree with Ann-Marie. I near puked reading that workout. Yanti, I hope your mouf and toofs all heel up OK. I'm glad that mess is all behind you. Felicia, no wisdom teeth? Really, you lucky so and so. My oral surgeon explained that the human body could only feel so much pain, so having all 4 out at the same time wouldn't hurt too much more then 1 at a time. I think he lied. Jo, I'm glad you are feeling better. Keep on smiling! Reece, you are the man! Great job at Branson, those hills look a bit daunting to me. OK, I was on my ride home today when it nearly happened. Let me start out by explaining that I live in a retirement area. This is where little old ladies can barely see over the steering wheel of their Lincoln Continentals. All you see is two hands on the wheel and a puff of blue hair. So I am 3 miles from home (remember that most accidents happen within 4 miles of the home) and some oncoming idiot decides to turn into his driveway. So he cuts right in front of me. Did I mention that the only color jersey I have is High Vis Yellow? At 6'3" and 215 lbs in a glowing shirt, I'm hard to not see. Oh, but due to my superior bike handling skillls (yeah, not so much), and by the Grace of God, I was able to swerve and avoid him. Less than a mile later, same thing, but this time there were more cars around. I threw my tail end off the back of the bike, squeezed the brakes, and luckily I didn't go tail over head. I actually managed to stay upright and get past her. And I didn't even curse the friggin' old bitty. Until now. The moral of the story is be alert and practice bike handling skills any chance you get. Have a safe day everyone, I'm off to scrounge up dinner! |

Oh boy, you have me laughing at my desk and everyone thinks I am crazier than I really am. So glad you are alright and managed to swerve (twice!) Cycling is so incredibly dangerous. There is no room to just zone out. I think being aware cyclist makes us all 1,000 times better at being aware drivers. It's funny as fall is here I have all my lights and reflectors and crap in full force on my bike since I cycle commute. I call them my party lights. When I turn everything on before I head out the door our downstairs looks like a dance club. |

When I turn everything on before I head out the door our downstairs looks like a dance club. I ride home from work about twice a week. The people I work with are used to the High Vis Guy walking back to my cubicle just before I leave. But there is no way I'm getting on that highway without every part of me being seen. I can't even conjure up the idea of riding at twilight or in the dark. So I say feel free to Studio 54 your way down the street! Whatever you need to do to be safe, do it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Glad you are ok Chris! I try to buy "highlighter" colored biking apparel whenever I can. I got a new bright yellow zip-sleeve lined jersey a few weeks ago that i am excited to wear when the mercury drops. |
