The problem is, I'm so late getting out of the water the only people left to PASS on the bike are people riding hybrids and mountain bikes

Thank you. I will state here that if I'm last IN THE ENTIRE race in swimming again, I'm quitting tris. For good. Its too embarrassing.

Dude, there is an obvious solution.  Do tris with wave starts.  Lie about your swimming ability to get yourself in the first wave.  You should be able to get to T1 before the slowest swimmers in the last wave no matter how slow you are.

When I had my, uh, mishap, during my OLY swim this year it slowed me down and I got passed by the leaders of wave after wave but nobody cared and I was still with the main pack (overall) coming out of the water.

Of course, this assumes you care what other people think in the first place.   

You bike and run well enough that you are unlikely to ever be DFL so there are a lot of people out there that would tell you to just quit your whining and race.  When you say that being last in one split is a reason to quit the sport what are you saying about the people who come in last bike, last run, last overall?  Or anywhere after you overall?  You may not mean it to sound that way but that's how it comes out.

I like pork.

I make a really good pork cutlets, coated in flour, salt, black pepper, ginger and garlic, then sauteed with some green onions, and served with a sweet and spicy mustard-ginger sauce.

Counting the ambulance ride, the waiting in the emergency room, the backup waiting for xrays, waiting for the application of the casts, and then getting back to the finish line ... I'd probably only beat spokes by a couple of minutes.
