I kid you not... one of our secretaries just said "Hey, what's 16 times 20? I can't find my calculator."

*Sigh*

This kids these days. My nephew cant do simple math. I ask him if he ever went to school and he said `Yeah. We had calulators, though. DUH!'

My wife won't allow kids to use calculators in her class.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to say that it's wrong she couldn't do the math in her head.  In college, I knew engineering students who couldn't do that problem without having to at least write it down, but could rattle off all kinds of random formula for stuff they were studying.

Me, sure, I can do math in my head easily.  Came in handy for determining percent slope, or radius of a curve, or how many packages of C4 are needed to blow up a road.   I know shortcuts.  Other people I know would struggle with that stuff, and need a calculator just to keep track of all the different numbers.

Me too. I guess my Asian half covers math skills (good) and driving skills (seriously deficient). I blew up a lab with nitrogen tri-iodide once ... purple smoke ... fun times!

I really fell in love with spokes when he said HP-48G. Those are the magic words.

Good afternoon, TAN!!!

I understand your point. I can figure out percentages for hydraulic systems and gallons of a tank just by looking at the dimensions. Whatever you use, you get good at.

But 16 times 2 and add the 0... c'mon now.....

See that's the thing.  That's a shortcut that you've learned.  Not everyone has that ability to make that leap with some subjects, especially if they aren't taught how to figure those things out, and don't use them on a regular basis.

I don't know which is scarier, you or the pumpkins. But those are some lickable legs!

2 years ago, when the dude we fired used to run this division of this company... they used to have $20,000 sales months. Since then; my boss, myself, and our purchasing agent moved to this division and took control. I just got the numbers... this month we did $144,506 in sales. They can't say we're not doing our jobs

Nicely done, Ryan. Now what would that figure be without TAN in your life?
