Thats what happens when you have the number 1 RPI conference .. you get screwed..  the big east blows.. #5 RPI thats why they get 8 bids.. the system is messed up that way..

the "number 1 RPI conference" doesn't even figure into it.  they're the number one RPI conference because they are top-heavy.  the selection committee could care less who the number one RPI conference is.

Enjoy the NIT.  Am sure Virginia Tech will perhaps even win a game in it. 

I heard somewhere an announcer trying to read Siena's conference and didn't even know what the acronym stands for... Must be proud (I would list it here but I have no freakin clue either).

I know it doesn't figure in.. and I partially agree.. The ACC is top heavy.. but down the line the teams can compete every game down to the number 12 team bottom 4 ACC.. GT, UVA, NCST, BC..  vs. bottom of the 32 team Big East DePaul, St. Johns, South Florida, Rutgers...  The difficulty in the ACC is you have to fight week in and week out for every game.. not so much in other conferences..  I am actually not upset by VT not making it.. they were a bubble team and really some make it, some dont.. we have 3 freshman starting, plus another 3 right off the bench.. I would have been thrilled with .500 this season.. they would prob bow out in the round of 32 in NCAA.. could possible win the NIT..  so its all good..

All I know, is that I am getting ganged up on by three people who went to schools with a combined zero NCAA tournament bids this year.  And news flash... we're not talking about triathlon here, we're talking about basketball.

I think another disadvantage that the ACC has, is that they play an imbalanced conference schedule.  For example, VT only got one shot at Duke, UNC, and Clemson, during the regular season.  Had they been able to play those teams twice, they might have got that W against a marquee team, which was missing from their tournament resume.

And at least you spelled Siena correctly.  I've seen "Seneca," "Sienna," etc.  Heck, even Dan, who went to a MAAC school, misspelled Siena in an inspire he left me last week.

Every year I have a pool going, it is a $20 entry; and the winner usually walks away w/ $500+ there is a 2nd & 3rd place payout as well.

Scoring goes as follows:  each round is worth 64 points, so 1st round each game you get right is 2 points, 2nd round 4 pts, 3rd 8 pts, 16, 32 and if you get the champ it is 64 points.  So it is heavily weighted toward getting the final 4 plus the champ.

Since the inception of the 64-team tournament in 1985, each seed-pairing has played a total of 92 first-round games.

The #4 seed has beaten the #13 seed 74 times (80%).

and, I always have my teams NCAA win to fall back on. I'm ok with that. Plus we have money colors.
