Happy birthday to Beth and Bill!!

Things are going well here. More positive changes noted each day.

Lots of training happening, too, although I really have no desire at all to race right now. There's a mini sprint here next weekend that I thought about doing, but I'd rather go to the beach. I definitely have mixed feelings about it bc I feel like I should support it since there are so few events like that around here. But I just don't feel like dealing with it. As sillly as it sounds, I cant deal with any kind of external pressure right now. Even a mini sprint. I'm trying not to be so hard on myself or anyone else. That seems to be an issue with me. So I'm not gonna race. But I still have my sights set on MG marathon in NOLA. At least the half!!

But I really do like tri as a lifestyle. It enables me to keep the same level of fitness as when I ran 40+ miles a week without so much risk of injury.

Have a great day, Manatee, and happy weekend!!

I'm back! I had a FABULOUS visit with my old friends - we had lots of food, lots of drinks, and very good times. LOTS of walking and a bit of hiking. Did I mention lots of wine?

It was great. Really exactly what I needed.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend!

Cathy - as an aside - Tommy's new show starts on Saturday ... 9:30 I think, on Cox 10 or Cox 4 depending on where you are in LA. ;-)
Tell all your friends! He needs a good stable job. He hasn't had anything long-lasting/secure since Katrina.

Hello everyone. I've been running errands getting ready for our river rafting trip. We're leaving tomorrow for a 3 day 2 night trip on the Tuolomne (sp?) River near Yosemite. Should be beautiful. I ran a 1/2 marathon on Sunday and didn't get a PR but improved my time from the same race last year by 14 minutes, so that's improvement. For the first time in a long time I have NO races on my list and won't be adding any, for at least the next few weeks.

A fellow cyclist sent this link to a cute utube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn29DvMITu4

I hope you enjoy. It's a bit long, but cute.

Have a great weekend everyone. I'll check on on Monday.

Congratulations, Lynn! 14 minutes is HUGE. And as you know courses are all different, so PRs aren't really comparable on different ones ... a course PR is awesome!!!

I've forgotten how to spell Tolumne, too. But in any case, have fun!!!

You will be GREAT, Carole! And remember the two rules: 1. HAVE FUN. 2. Relax (following one will help the other!)

Good luck!!!

Thanks Yanti!  I know I can do the distances so I'm hoping that will mean that I can actually finish LOL! It just all seems rather daunting as it looms in the near future.

Hi Manatees!

Well, I think my schedule is getting back to normal for a little while. Between work and family stuff I feel like I haven't had time to take a breath for two weeks. I did get to see some old friends and hold my new niece. She's up to 5-1/2 lbs. now and keeps growing.

I've got to get back to some consistant training. I was driving to NJ today, looked down and noticed my middle is getting squishier. Not good! Physically, I'm feeling o.k. overall, just no motivation. So....I've decided to make sure I do something, swim, bike, run, square dancing (just kidding about the square dancing) every day for the next week. I think if I can accomplish that I'll start to feel better and might not have to buy new clothes.

Carole - What Yanti said x2.

Hope everybody is doing well.

Hi guys ... just a quick drive-by to say that I'm not dead or misplaced, hurt, or avoiding you ... I'm just BUSY! Yes - BUSY! ... B.U.S.Y! ... I have 6 (six!) clients booked in next week already, and 2 networking events today alone.

A busy me is a happy me ... but a busy me doesn't waste time on BT. So ... it's bittersweet. ;-)

But I've been thinking of you all!

PS: I am also having problems with my internet connection at work, where I waste most of my time as there's no tv there. But there are kittens. lol.

Kittens???  They are WAAAAAAY better than TV.  LOL

Glad things are busy and you have clients!

Thanks Art for the x2. And you too Yanti!  Just trying to get my head wrapped around the idea that its a week from Sunday!  I got new pedals and bike shoes so I will spend the week...."clip in, clip out" (said in my best wax on, wax off voice)

The tri i watched had four people I knew running....two with clipless, 1 with cages and 1 with regular pedals....the one with regular pedals had a much slower time and he's a pretty fit guy...so i decided to jump in with pedals and shoes.

Mornin, Manatees!

Carole, you're gonna do fine in your tri. It's a good idea to get used to those new pedals & shoes. Practice every day if you can, even if it's just around your neighborhood. Be prepared to fall a few times. I hadn't fallen off my bike since I was probably about 10 yrs old before I went clipless. Then I fell about a hundred times. Including during a race. I even fell into my car in my driveway! At least nobody saw that time. LOL. And there were no serious injuries. Just hurt pride and some scars from skinned knees. Once I realized I could adjust the tension in the clips, and I got a little more coordinated, I stopped falling because of the clips. Good luck!!

Thanks...I have tweaked the tension a bit already but I'm sure it may need some additional tweaking.   The elementary school near my house has a field with an asphalt "track" around it....my plan is to take the bike over there and practice.....grass on both sides!!  Hopefuly that will mean smaller injuries...lol

Stopping in for a quick hello and first thing I want to say....GO CAROL!!!    You will do great!  Like Yanti said...have fun!   We will all be behind you with well wishes, prayers, etc.   I know it helped me so much to know that so many were out there thinking of me!

I made it to MT and back, but I didn't do the triathlon after all.   On Friday, I made the decision to stay extra time with my son and although I have a few twinges of regret  now and again, I am glad I made the choice I did.   We had a fun morning at a family "rodeo" doing sack races, etc.   My best friend from childhood lives there and quite a few of her friends did the tri.  She is thinking of training for next year and if she does, I will go back up and do it with her....although 1600 miles is a LONG way to drive for a sprint tri!

I haven't been feeling very well the past week or so - some is due to seasonal allergies - but I told dh that I know the rest of it is because I have slacked off on training and it truly gives me energy!  I have got to get back at it for sure!

Blessings to all

Carole-- Sounds like you've had your quota of mishaps so you're free and clear for at least another 6 months, methinks.

You'll do fine in your tri. The first few weeks I had the new pedals I fell often. I'd just forget to clip out and sometimes at intersections with an audience. Quite humbling and got some good "tri-tatoos" by form of scars from my scrapes.

I've been on vacation so sorry I've missed ya'll. Sounds like everyone is doing all right. Glad the baby is doing well -- TR is working, Bill is going to be back in the pool, TinkerBeth will be running and Sharie will be sneeze free soon. All my visualizations for the week.

As for me, I'm still rafting on the river in my mind!

I'm considering signing up for a fall/early winter marathon (would be my first) and then a century ride in Jan. but that could all change. Not sure what's next for me race wise.

Happy Monday!

Thanks Lynn...several people on the trail stopped to help me....there was one guy that ditched his bike and came running.  Nice to know that i wouldnt have lain injured for long..lol

OK Bike gurus......

I'm dropping my chain when I shift from the smallest ring on the front to the middle ring.....and this was pre-fall that it happened so not related to that.  Any ideas??  Seems to shift fine up to the big ring.

This was the first time this has happened tho i have had a few time when it didnt sound quite right shifting

I should also add that we had my cassette off the other day and cleaned and lubed it.  We were going to take the chain off but couldn't chain brake it.....got a frozen link and to fiddle with it for a while to get it unstuck.....

Carole - Sorry to hear about the clipless problem. You're not alone, most people (including me) who ride have done something similar. The good news is you'll learn quick.
