Lots of tightness and some stabbing pain, similar to what I have experienced before with IT band issues. With the foot, its just sore on the top, like my shoes were too tight or something. Either way, I will be RICEing and foam rolling like crazy over the next two weeks. I am sure I will be ok, as I tend to bounce back fairly quickly, but this still sucks..... I feel your pain, brother. What is it with these last minute taper injuries? Sunday, being my first non-workout weekend day in many months, I decided to get caught up on my much-neglected yard work. So I borrow one of those pole-pruner things from my neighbor and did some serious tree and shrub trimming. Worked up a great sweat, and was relishing in that weekend workout glory, when just as I was finishing up I thought "Wow, my lower back is kind of sore". Sure enough, within an hour, I knew I had done some serious damage. I have this happen form time to time, basically a strained/pulled muscle. I severely did this originally several years ago while canoeing (actually while standing chest deep in swamp mud trying to lift an underwater log). I know it generally gets back to normal after a few days. But, Sunday night was pretty miserable, absolutely no sleep. Worked from home on Monday and probably half of today (I work for a cool company). Today is much better, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Getting a massage this afternoon, and halting all workouts until at least late tomorrow, then taking it very slow and easy. Now that I know I am recovering, I can tell you that I had some really dark moments over the past couple of days....thinking that I blew this whole 9 months of training and a life-goal because of some silly carelessness. It was emotionally pretty painful. But, I never panicked, I just did all the right things to hasten healing. I know my body is strong, stronger than it's ever been, and I am mentally tougher than I've ever been....precisely because of all the long, long training hours I've put in. I will be at the starting line. |

Member 76 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Sorry to hear about the injuries. I'm dealing with patellar tendonitis myself. Cut a brick run short a couple weeks ago with significant pain and have only done a couple short runs since. Hurts on the bike as well, but at least it's manageable there so far. If I can just get to the start of the run, I can do whatever necessary (i.e. walk) to finish from there. |

I was swimming and stubbed or sprained my big toe about 4 weeks ago. I've ridden and swam, but I've recently stopping swimming because I keep hitting it when I kick, so I'm basically going in w/o running in about 4-5 weeks and not having a good taper as I'm only biking right now. I guess I'll just have to man up on the run... |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Hey guys, sorry to hear about all of the injuries creeping up so late. Thanks to some serious pain doing some Graston, I am on the upside of Achilles Tendinitis which has been bugging me since April. This, along with a 5 week bout of ITBS, my run training has been way off. I'll finish, just not like I had hoped. Hope you guys get to feeling better. |

I remember seeing these somewhere on bt but not sure where. For IM vets would you recommend using them ? Not sure what you're referring to. You mean like those pace chart temp tattoos? Also on subject of tattoo, anyone planning on getting a finisher tat? I'm thinking of getting 140.6 on my calf. I'll post up a picture of my bike once I get it prepped for the race. Member 60 TN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I like the mdot tattoos...at least they look cool on the calves of all those fast guys & girls that zoom past me on the bike. Highly unlikely that I'll get a tattoo, but more power to those of you that do. I'll just wear my medal every day and find ways to work "you know, I am an Ironman" into every conversation. |

Member 60 TN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread My theme songs are "Till I Collapse" by Eminem & Nate Dog and of course "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. I just swam 2.4 miles nonstop for the 1st time every, so today's theme is "Ain't No Stoppin Us Now" by McFadden & Whitehead. |

Member 17 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Did Louisville in 2007 also.....I thought it was hot!! I just remember seeing lots of folks flaked out on the side of the road on the run. Kept the EMTs very busy. You can recover if you Bonk but if you get dehydrated, which I did - but finished!! - it will make for a tough marathon at the end. Good Luck to Everyone!! |

Bib #'s for your arms - or do they use the oil? at some races here they have temporary tattoos for arms that helps with not smearing the permeant markers when you apply the sun screen? |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks guys. I am going with two, two hour bottles of Infinit, plus aerobottle for water refills. I plan on stopping a SN to exchange for two more, two hour bottles. I don't feel comfortable putting together a four hour bottle and a three hour bottle. I've used a three hour bottle during my training, but not four. So, I'd have to stop anyway. I don't want to chance it. Hopefully when I stop, I will have to "use the facilities" too. That's a big time goal of mine. |
