Thanks man! I guess I don't think about it anymore. 7am would be sleeping in to me! Lol

After a good night sleep I got back at it today. Last night I went to bed at 8:30 pm!!! I was still tired and feeling a little off today but decided to do my run anyway. Instead of intervals I decided on doing a tempo run. I did a warm up and a cool down and was able to hold sub a 7min/mile pace for 7 miles. I'm hoping that's going to be my half marathon pace. We'll see, but it felt pretty good. Still not sure what my problem is on the bike though!

Anyway, I guess that's all I got for smack talk today.

Morning folks! Whats up for the weekend?  Anyone racing?

Not racing, but there's two rides up for this weekend. One is a Chocolate Chase Ride. 15mi/30mi/50mi. $25 (for any of the three distances) and the money goes to Fibrous Dysplasia Foundation. The other is a causal 50 mi ride.   I haven't quite decided which one to do so far...and both of them are TOMORROW! :-)   As much as I would love to do the 50 mi ride, but I'm getting doubts that I can do it when the last time I rode 50 miles was early fall. Longest ride this year so far was in January for 34 miles. I don't give myself enough credit at times!   I also would like to do the Flatlander's Ride (which ain't flat, but it's flatter than most rides) on Sunday, which is 27 miles. So I figure that if I do the 30 miler one, then do the 27 miler on Sunday, that's a pretty solid bike weekend.   Currently just getting time in the saddle, nothing more.

ANY ride outside this time of year sounds good to me. Whichever way you go, enjoy!

Thanks for the smack talk.  Got home from a 16 hour work day and got on the trainer for 1:10:00.  I have to work a few hours in the morning and then a 7 mile run after lunch and then back to work tomorrow night.  I'm going to finish the month strong and then make March my strongest month yet.

Carla - Your workouts are looking great.

Meulen - 2012-02-17 6:41 AM - Wesley, you'd be surprised how work effects your health. I'm dragging myself lately. I just can't get the sleep and recover. It first showed up in my FTP/CP testing and continues to show up on the bike trainer. I couldn't even get through 1/2 hour last night. Finally, my body told me I've had enough. My body temp is all over the map and I feel rundown like I'm sick. Some how some way it eventually catches up to you! Worst part, to me, is it messes with your head. You mentally lose the focus it takes to complete tough efforts and get discouraged. I'm not exactly a stranger to this as my work has really cut into my life over the last 3 years. It's hard to complain, because a lot of people don't have jobs!! Anyway, one trick I've learned in the last few years is to buy a new toy when I get discouraged. New toys have a way of ramping your interest back up and getting you out there working out!!

Brian, I think it's amazing how you, and many others in our group, are able to squeeze in your  workouts with all the work stress, family commitments, lack of rest, etc. You guys are amazing! I can't imagine getting out of bed before 7 AM, and yet many of you guys are regularly up hours before that! Hopefully, things will eventually calm down and you'll get some adequate R&R time. Regardless, all of you who are up and working out before dawn have my sincere admiration! That's some serious dedication!

The odds of me missing my workouts increase significantly as the day goes on.  Not too many work or family issues to deal with at 5 am!  I find its a much better prospect to get it done first thing and not have to worry about it.  Although when the double sessions kick in for the longer races it is usually easier as the weather is nicer and the motivation to hop on the bike or go for a run is higher when the sun is shining.  Although, smelling people grilling is a challenge!

Regardless of when, the key is to find a time that works for you and your family, make an appoinment with yourself and keep it.

I also think the mentor groups help keep us accountable too!

Meulen - 2012-02-15 9:32 PM Lol...awesome story DJ!

Except for the dishes, what's so hard about throwing some dishes in the dishwasher? Lol

Today started out slow for me. I am soooo tired and mentally drained from work. I skipped my circuit core stength workout at 4am and went back to bed. I went to work and really didn't feel like running but forced myself to hit the gym in my building downtown after work. I went home and didn't want to swim. Thankfully, I had a friend hold me accountable and met him at the pool at my gym by home. I went home and made up my circuit core strength workout while I was watching tv with my wife. Now.....it's time for bed!

I agree! I can't Brian to put a dish in the dishwasher. They always end up in the second sink. Makes no sense since the dishwasher is right next to it. Drives me crazy!.. oh but wait, this isn't a relationship website... back to tris

Kath, word to the wise:  Don't "attack" the bike course in Wisconsin.   A great goal is to stay at endurance pace and spin, spin, spin the hills.  If you go into the red on the hills on the first loop, the second loop with be a sufferfest and the marathon a real joy.

I've had a terrific winter so far.  Weight loss = 12 pounds on paleo, stronger than ever with kettlebells as strength training, bike workouts have been really consistent and the running has been OK, though indoors mostly on a small track.  It will be fun to see how all that translates to the outside.  I would love to shave another 10 pounds.  May be a lot given that I', about 10% body fat now.  Looking lean.

8 days and counting from release for journalism.  Getting good responses from potential workplaces and lining up some really great references.  Hoping for a job that is challenging and offers enough freedom to work all the workouts around.  I'm sure it will happen.

Hope your training all goes well.

Thanks for the tip. I am sure that I will be picking your brain when next year. It will be great to meet you. I plan on volunteering this year so I will at least have an idea of what the venue looks like. That helps so much!

Congrats on all of your successes!  It must really feel great.

We are doing the Snowman Stampede   We just decided to do it yesterday and signed up last night at packet pick-up. They have a 5 mile and 10 mile race. Carla has a long run in her schedule this weekend so the 10 mile it is. There will be some walking involved for me but we are supposed to have nice weather. Just hope that there are some bathrooms along the way. Someone posted on FB that there were trees. That didn't comfort me a bit

Morning folks! Whats up for the weekend?  Anyone racing?

blah blah blah.

Jealous of you for having that many choices to ride in February!  Enjoy which ever you decide!

LOL!  There's group rides available EVERYDAY, some are year-round (times are adjusted according to weather though). Since there's a few bike clubs around here, so the options all over the place.

Decided to do the 50 with a group of friends that happened to decide to go a lot slower than they normally do. I didn't pick up the 50 mi route map...if I did, I probably would have turned around if I saw River Mountain Trail and Horizon Ridge on there! Now I have to keep in mind that they weren't THAT bad, especially with my climbing wheels (Mavic Kystriums w/ 11-28 cassette instead of Cosmic Carbones with 12-27).

Hope everyone else had a good day today!!

Gawd!! I want to move to Nevada! This year, one of our trips out there is going to be to look at houses.

I probably could have biked outside today in Chicagoland. It unseasonably warm here. Should be 30-40 tomorrow too. Im going to be able to get my long run in outside it looks like!

Oh yeah, there's two night rides a week too...one is good for hammerheads....if you ever come by Las Vegas/Henderson I'll hook you up!

Anyone love bike climbing?  Check this out.  There is a bike ride series called Sufferfest I, II, and III.

This is the Sufferfest I.   No lie.  Two Red Rock Loops, Mt. Polosi, then Red Rock Loop again.   I have done the Red Rock loop and Mt. Polosi (not both on the same day though).  They both ain't a joke and will have you crying for Mama.    Sufferfest II is Two loops, one Polosi, and two loops again. Sufferfest III is two loops, two Polosi then two loops (128 miles with 12000' of climbing..that is NOT a typo!!)

We got some crazy cyclists here, and it ain't me. :-)

We got PLENTY of those...you should know that...and there's rides every Saturday for MTB (Beginner's though...depending on when you will next come up...sometimes they have a little bit more intermediates, and you can always post on BikingLasVegas.com that you're in town visiting and you want some people to show you the trails depending on your level)
