Real Steel.  Kind of cool, kind of stupid...

I guess that's why it got 50% on rotten tomatoes.

I liked the Dad and son part I guess so I would have given it like a 65/35.

I would really love to once again teach people how to write things.

I really miss having my pick of piglets students.

Well, you did split that infinitive very deftly.

TW

I'd letcha split me deftly. Laughing

I prayed for you, and JWKMH, and all the Geezerettes, and even the Grandgeezerette this morning!

And for your mom.

Thanks we really need it.

Too much caffiene + not enough work + vacation starting tomorrow = my brain is going crazy. Or am I just having a moment of clarity?

phoenixazul - 2012-08-23 11:19 AM Ooh...poor erg form is like nails on a chalkboard for me. The worst is people going up and over their knees. Arms away, body over, up the slide, catch, drive, finish. Hands before knees, people, hands before knees! In other news, it looks like I'm approved for continuous glucose monitoring! This is probably not as exciting to the non-diabetics out there, but it's pretty flippin' cool to me. It will mean I'll know if my blood sugar is 110 on its way to 400, or 110 on its way to 40. I had a kick-butt A1C at my last appointment (down a full point from my last appointment, and I think this can help me get even better). Now we'll have to see how much the insurance will pay for.

Do you have Type 1 or 2 and how did it come about?

I'm Type 1, and have been since I was 9.

Like most T1's, I had a minor childhood illness...and then my body freaked out and basically went from attacking the illness to killing the cells that produce insulin. It was really strange, like I remember being SO UNBELIEVABLY THIRSTY, and having to pee every five minutes (basically, your body's trying to get out the poison in your body-glucose- by passing it through your filtration system, which is really tough on it...like asking your garbage disposal to run 24-7 and not expecting it to die? That's why lots of diabetics have kidney damage)...But I don't remember it being a gradual thing, it feels like it was just *BAM!* diabetes. I'm not sure if that's reality or not, but that's how I remember it feeling in my mind. That it wasn't a gradual, "hey I don't feel great today, oh man I feel worse, oh man, even worse..." it was basically, "Holy carp, I feel terrible!"

So I told my mom I thought I had a UTI, so she made an appointment with my pediatrician. First thing he asked me to do was pee in a cup. So I did (because I still had to pee all the time), he stuck a test strip in there, and it was one big glucose and keytone party (no bueno). There wasn't any discussion. I went directly from the office to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, spent a week there getting myself under control and learning to take shots, and I've spent the last 18 years trying to get better.

I thought about you the other day. I was watching the movie Doomsday and I was thinking how come all the people they used as extras look nothing like people from Scotland? Stupid Hollywood.

What do people from Scotland look like? They look like all sorts of things to me, my sweet slim fat Homer Cordlet!

Have you seen the movie Doomsday? It looks like they just walked out in LA and grabed a bunch of people.

OMG! Yes! I watched Doomsday a few months ago and went, "well, for all the fluffing they did about Glasgow, it wasn't terribly Glaswegian". And trust me, there are people in Glasgow who would have fit in that movie PERFECTLY.

I think I know how to row basics.  But to check, I just reviewed the videos.  That looks close to what I was doing and I checked a lot in the mirror.

On the machine I was on, resistance set at 2-3 was like NO resistance.  Like riding a stationary bike at level 2.  Around 5, there was no resistance during the entire leg phase.  NONE.  Then it would engage more during the upper body portion.

Only when I got to 8-9, did I feel like if I pushed with my legs, did I feel ANY kind of resistance more than just sliding on the seat back and forth with my hand on my hips and not even holding the "oars".

It sounds like it might be the erg then, I'm sorry for doubting you.  I hear a lot of people say that then turn the erg up to 10 and really all it is is that they are doing it wrong.  I can get a better force curve on a 3 or 4 than they can on a 10.

Good call on AFTER the pool .. good call.

Burrito Supreme (no onions) and two soft tace supremes and an ice tea. and nope, still with me!  and it was spectacular!  I can be more descriptive if needed...
