Veteran 253 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED I'm on my way to Texas, y'all!! (In the middle of Kansas currently) I'm plugging along. I was up at 5am to get my 1 hr 15 min run in. Glad I got it in, but after running around all day, packing until midnight, & getting 3 hrs sleep, it was slow & a bit of a struggle. As we were packing the SUV last night, trying to fit it all, my husband says, "maybe we shouldn't take your bike, I'm backing away now". I told him I had a 2 1/2 hr ride (plus 2 more), & he wouldn't like being around me if we don't bring it. We fit it in, now I'm just hoping it stops raining so I can ride! I'd love to continue with our mentor group (I some of you have known each other for a while, but I feel like I'm finally getting to know you), but I'll do whatever the majority wants. :-) |

Member 258 | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Definitely would like to keep the group going. I'm halfway through my first "Build" week and feeling pretty tired and sore. Also starting to notice a little grumpiness. I'm trying to eat more and just take it easier in general while I adjust, but that can be hard to explain to a 3 year old and 5 year old! |

I really enjoy reading about what you all are doing, and being able to share my experiences with people who understand. And it seems like we're all just now getting into the real start of the season, so I expect there will be a lot more information to come from everyone! |

One problem I am having is being able to fall asleep after my late workouts. anyone have any tricks to help with that?? I have the same problem with masters swimming being so late, which is one of the reasons I don't do it as often as I should. I haven't found anything that works real good, other than Advil PM, but then I can't get up the next morning so it kind of defeats the purpose. |

Veteran 169 Stockton-on-Tees | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Hi everyone, I haven't really dropped out, I have been reading all your stuff with interest. It's a bit of a long story but i couldn't make the training on the bike, due to my son suddenly loosing interest at school and becoming a complete git (don't know if you have that word in America but it means his behavior and attitude have become appalling), he is now 141/2 so that may have something to do with it. So, as I only really see him at the weekends and feeling that I couldn't leave it to my partner, who isn't his dad to deal with him i couldn't go out with the cycling club I joined. Anyway, to cut a very emotionally complicated story short, I had to withdraw from the half ironman working on the theory that the race will be in there in years to come but my son needs my attention now. So, then i got a bit depressed and did no exercise and didn't feel I could contribute anymore to this forum for about 3 weeks. And now the menopause has got me with hot flushes starting during the daytime which I've read all about and apparently its the perfect time for me to have a new start and exercise will help. So, I am now on an olympic training plan with the aim of completing at least one this season and managing to fit the training around my son ( who would have thought it would be harder to train now than when he was 9/10 and i was on my own!!) So please can I stay in. I've learnt so much already and I promise to contribute again. Jennifer |

Member 258 | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Jennifer, I'm glad you are sticking around, it sounds like you are making some really difficult decisions right now, and I hope things settle down for you and your son soon. I think it's probably really smart that you are going to continue to do some training, just to stay sane and have the mental/emotional energy that you need to be there for your son. Take care of yourself. |

It can only help with all that you are going through. Sometimes.. actually a lot of the time I think my training or any type of working out is what keeps me sane...or at least partially so It is therapy without the cost |

Expert 943 Highlands Ranch, CO | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED So I am a bit behind again but appreciated the well wishes and wanted to give you a brief race report. It was really, really cold in Dallas! What made it really bad was the wind. 20-35 miles an hour is what the weather people said. I had to hold on to my hat once or twice. While waiting for my wave, I grabbed a coat that was discarded by a racer who was in an earlier wave. A few of us did that. It was a nice fleece jacket. I wore it for about a mile which helped. I was doing pretty well for me and was looking forward to mile eight as that is when the down hill started. It was a gradual down hill for the last miles of the race. Unfortunately, my quads started to really hurt and every step that I took made it worse. So, I ended up walking a bunch when I could have been running and when I would run, it was more like a shuffle. I don't know if it was due to not being used to running that far on concrete or what as I had done 11 miles the week before on dirt roads and had no issues. I was sore for a few days afterwards so it was basically a break down of the muscles. So.. I was really disappointed as the three people who I was with had their fasted split at the end and my last split was my slowest. On a positive note, I didn't have any GI issues which is HUGE for me!!!! So in that regard, it was a success. Traveling back on Monday and heading right back to work on Tuesday has made for an exhausting week. My motivation to get back at it is lacking but I am hopeful that with a little down time, I will be able to regroup and have a better outlook. Happy Friday/Saturday! |

Member 326 | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Well, just got back from my last training session in Texas before I fly out tomorrow. It was a 85 mile ride in 5:05. It was 93 degrees with 88% humidity with a wind out of the SE at 18 mph. Back home in Winnipeg it is below freezing, so I shouldn't complain. In my 3 weeks down here I did just under 500 miles on the bike, 67 miles running, and 18200 yds of swimming. I also got in 7 rounds of golf. I walked the beaches at South Padre Island and visited Mexico twice. All in all it was an amazing vacation. I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend. Dwayne |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: kenj mentor group - back for another great season! CLOSED Busy weekend here, fortunately I am finishing a recovery week so the training is minimum. I am painting my den and replacing the wood trim and door. We bought our house 11 years ago from a couple that divorced while building it so they started out with all the upgrades and finished it with low end stuff. So a room at a time I have been upgrading and my den and one bathroom is all that I have left. I need to finish since some of the first rooms are coming around to needing the paint refreshed. I looked at my calendar and I am traveling the next 2 weekends and racing the following 2. |
