I'm a huge discovery channel nerd.  I love mythbusters and deadliest catch... as well as pretty much any special they do.

<---- big geek

mythbusters....  I want to work for Jamie and Adam in San Fran.  Best job ever.

Mythbusters drives me crazy with their lack of appropriate controls.

Sadly, I agree.  I am not exactly a lab-based scientist, but I must say, while I love the show and find it very entertaining, I take their tests with a grain of salt.  I wouldn't have any problem with them if they came out and said "look, here are the factors we didn't take into account" and went from there.

As it is, though, it's entertainment.  Not a hardcore science show.

they only time it REALLY bugged me was the "swimming in syrup" myth...

They had a theory and brought in an olympic swimmer to finally proove their theory, but when his data didn't match all the rest, the decided to "through it out" as not being valid...  The only time I can REALLY tell they chose to make the data fit the conclusion they wanted.

Not exactly historically accurate, but both the series "The Tudors" and "Sparticus" on Showetime (I think) were interesting depictions of historic events during their respective time periods.

Plus Sparticus has lots of full frontal male nudity, so you really can't go wrong there.

Really, do they ever use a similar non-explosive of equal mass and size in the cement truck? Results are therefore, invalid.

Yes, but there are ways I could easily disprove their experiments or change them to make them work.  They present it like a lab and as scientific, but it's not.

There is a lot of odds and ends I like to watch as well.  Almost all history and engineering.

I'm fond of the military history and documentaries on guns/tanks/plains/etc (old and new)...  All the war documentaries are terribly interesting.

Note to self: if you plan on swimming during your lunch break, you must pack a swimsuit.  Public pools frown on nudity.  Especially if you plan on sporting an orange swim cap and goggles without a a swimmy suit.

There's a show on Spike called "The Greatest Warrior" or something like that, that I make a point of watching whenever I see it on.  They basically take 2 groups of people (tribes, police forces, militias, etc), and figure out who would beat who.  The one that I saw was the CIA vs. the KGB, but I also know they've done, for example, Genghis Khan's army vs. a native tribe.  Pretty cool stuff!

You could always rent it on dvd from netflix.

And I agree.  Some of these guys have the most amazing bodies I've ever seen.  I want to run my tongue over their abs just to see how it feels.  Alas, licking my TV screen does not have the same effect.

I like UFO stuff too.  I think it's really narrowminded to believe that we are the only intelligent species in the entire universe and think eventually we will prove otherwise.  Maybe not in my lifetime, but eventually.

That said, I like the different theories and listening to the obvious wack-os talk about it too.  Good clean entertainment.

LockOut - 2010-08-10 1:06 PM I am definitely more a Discovery Channel kind of guy.

Though I must say that I like Glutton for Punishment.

I'm a huge discovery channel nerd.  I love mythbusters and deadliest catch... as well as pretty much any special they do.

<---- big geek

mythbusters....  I want to work for Jamie and Adam in San Fran.  Best job ever.

Mythbusters drives me crazy with their lack of appropriate controls.

it's a TV show debunking myths and fables.  Not a lab.

Yes, but there are ways I could easily disprove their experiments or change them to make them work.  They present it like a lab and as scientific, but it's not.

but there is a lot of colors and movement.  I like it...

That's cool.  It just bugs me when I watch it, so I never do.

brycoy - 2010-08-10 1:45 PM ultimate dorky, but i like monster quest and ufo stuff.  not sure what to believe, but i love to hear them present their case

It never fails, and the local news does it too, that they find the biggest, loudest idiot to represent as a whitness to something...cracks me up

Being the science nerd along with Jen and Kate.  I like Good Eats.

I don't watch much TV.  Last thing I saw was RuPauls Drag Race and Drag U.  I decided I want to be a drag queen!!

you barely watch TV and THAT'S what you selected?

I'm sad.  No wonder you don't watch much...

that's just the last stuff I watched I do tend to like the historical programs.

Not exactly historically accurate, but both the series "The Tudors" and "Sparticus" on Showetime (I think) were interesting depictions of historic events during their respective time periods.

Plus Sparticus has lots of full frontal male nudity, so you really can't go wrong there.

Actually I meant history channel type stuff.  Particularly ancient history and battles and such.

Ah well, then ignore my soft core porn with a little bit of history mixed in suggestions.

I may have to check them out sometime but I also don't get the movie channels,  With the amount I watch TV it's not really something I feel the need to spend money on.  Besides if I can't touch it why watch it???

You could always rent it on dvd from netflix.

And I agree.  Some of these guys have the most amazing bodies I've ever seen.  I want to run my tongue over their abs just to see how it feels.  Alas, licking my TV screen does not have the same effect.

again, you need the swim cap and goggles.

For licking my TV screen?

Dude, what does your TV do that mine doesn't?
