Haha, fair enough.It's snowing here

snowed here this morning too. We started spring break training camp today with a solid 18mi over two practices on the river. snow this morning, just wind this afternoon.

My training has taken a hit the last few days with being sick and then todays starting up.
Got in a great workout on tues though with a 2 hour ride, an hour rowing, and then a 3mi TT run.
tomorrow back at it.

Jason, i would not tape over the vents, and you'll warm up fast in an event like that.

Yeah...it was just an idea I thought I would throw out there.

I taped the vents on my aero helmet last week for my sprint.  29 minutes of that didn't bother me at all...but I suppose I had 23.5 mph of wind cooling me off too...so I think you have a point.

Got in my morning 6.5 miles

I would normally swim tonight, but I'm going to try and hit the sack early to get some rest.  Planning to do about 60 miles solo tomorow morning in the 20-30 mph winds we're still experiencing.

jgerbodegrant - 2011-03-24 6:53 AM Finished my 1000 yd time trial "test" last night  I'm getting a bit worried and not sure how to change up my workouts to speed things up. ?Any suggestions would be great.  I did some timed 100's at steady comfortable pace on monday and was able to average about 1:25 for each.  I just felt smooth and comfortable.  Last night was different.  Every time I breathed I got a mouth full of water...was kind of a mess.

I overall felt weak and kind of crappy. My shoulders felt sore for some reason and I couldn't get into a rythm.

TT: 15:13 AVG: 1:31

100 SPLIT:

1. 1:20
2. 1:27
3. 1:32
4. 1:32
5. 1:34
6. 1:34
7. 1:35
8. 1:34
9. 1:33
10. 1:29

Good results and good consistancy after the first 200. My only advice right now for TT's to you is to start slow and then build toward a faster pace. For me personally, this helps with swimming and I am able to not only push harder towards the end but my stroke is just as efficient from the begining as I am not as tired, but not everyone is the same just my $.2.

Also how many sprint swims are you doing per week? I started off doing 1 a week or every other and am going to start doing 1-2 a week and seeing where it takes me. But I have noticed that simply putting in the time in the pool goes a long way in build a good base, stroke, and fitness.

So I just got my bloodowork results in the mail today and everything on that end has checked out to be normal and good. I also just finished the 48 hour testing with my holter monitor (HR monitor) and I was supposed to keep a journal of whenver my symptoms appeared during those 48 hours. I had 4 events where I was either short of breath, or had an elevated HR from doing normal activities like sitting up, walking up a flight of stairs, or even laying in bed. So hopefully if anything this test will show more of what is going on inside. Although everything that has come back so far shows that I am 100% healthy.

In other big news this is no bike porn, but I my made first car purchase on Thursday! I am now the owner of the "box-type" car a 2011 Scion xB Release Series. Got a great deal on it just before they bumped up pricing on everything due to the tsunami in Japan, interested how many of my bikes I can get in this car a time, hoping fit all 3, the cargo spaceis crazy for how small the car is!

Congrats on the car.  If I had to do it all over again, I'd definately get a Honda Element.  It just makes so much sense for those of us hauling dirty bikes.

Got through my ride today.  Winds were ridiculous, about 20-30 steady with gusts to who knows how fast.  Managed to hold 19.3 mph for 59 miles.  My power levels were much more consistant throughout the ride, but I was surprised my HR was so high near the end.  I was pushing 160-165 bpm for 210 watts.

Going to have to somehow gauge my effort based on HR for my HIM since I won't be using my powertap rear wheel.  I think accounting for the cardiac drift is going to be the key because I was closer to 145-150 bpm for 210 watts in the beginning of the ride.

Sweet car!  Did you get that color and everything?

So my motivation just dropped to pretty much nothing yesterday.  I went to look at a Felt AR2 and they won't budge on the price of the bike.  It's used....a 2009 with about 4000 miles on it.  I guess it's still a good deal, but at $3600 I can't swing it.  So I basically went home and ate dinner and went to bed.  Not to mention IT'S FRIGGIN 5 DEGREES OUT WITH THE WIND CHILL!!!! Yell

Okay, I'm done being a little biotch now.  Thanks....off to get on the trainer and then to the pool.  Have a fabulous Sunday all...hope your brackets have all gone to $hit like mine have.

My bracket was done a long time ago with Duke.

What type of wheels were they offering with the AR2?  I noticed there isn't a 2011 AR2 this year, but in 2010, they came with 38mm zipp clinchers, which put retail at $7k.  So I suppose $3600 would be somewhat reasonable if they came with those wheels.  If they're selling it with aluminum clinchers like ksryiums...then yeah...way too much IMO.

The AR2's look sweet, but any reason why you were considering it when you already have a P2?  I always thought the AR line was for people who wanted 1 bike...that could slap on aero bars and have an aero frame.  The Felt F2 is about 1.5 pounds lighter and has a similar price point as the AR2.

Got my long run in this morning.  My running group failed to tell me that most of them were turning around to only do 11 miles...when they were chattering about doing 12 at the start.  I was out in front and didn't get the memo.  Oh well...that just gave me the opportunity to run my own pace...as I no longer needed to wait for them at each water fountain to regroup.

I tried to chase them down, and almost did.  Needed about 2 more minutes.  Ended up running the last 6 miles at a 8:19 pace including a couple short water stops.

Going to head out shortly for some hill climbing on the bike...in prep for my TT next weekend.  I'll be riding the course twice...maybe 3x, but I doubt it.  Not going to push it too hard, just trying to get familiar with the course as there are lots of switch backs and the grade varies in certain areas from 3-8%

Got in 2 laps of hill climbing this afternoon on the TT course for next week.

First lap was at a hard but steady effort, 27:58, 9.4 mph, 240 avg watts, 159 avg bpm

Second lap I went all out, 25:10, 10.5 mph, 272 avg watts, 172 avg bpm

The second lap felt like a 20 minute power test...except it was longer.  I actually set a new 20 minute personal best, avging 274 watts, but this was on a road bike...previous tests were on a TT bike in aero.  But all things considered, I wasn't anywhere near fresh...having run 42 miles this week, including 12 this morning, and riding 60 miles yesterday.  Needless to say, I'm really pleased.

But one thing that really stands out is my HR.  I only recently started using my HRM again on the bike because I know I won't be using my powertap for my HIM.  Is it strange that for the bike portion of my sprint, and the second lap of this hill climb, that my avg HR is over 170?  Seems really high.  The last 10 minutes of it, I was averaging 177 bpm.  It was an all out effort, and I almost puked at the end, but still...I thought my bike LT is supposed to be about 10-15 bpm lower than my run.  I haven't tested my run in a long time, but I seriously doubt it's 182-187.  The run portion of my sprint last week avg'd 173 for 26 minutes.

Yeah..totally normal.  My average heart rate for my 20 min indoor time trial was 183.

Make sure you recover properly from that ride.  Sounds like a torture session, but looks like you did very well.

167 lbs this morning

Goals: Start my base training in swimming, TT training on bike

I have decided to stay with a run focused workout schedule.  I am plan on running 6 days/wk and I am going to try and tackle some variant of the Daniels' plan for 5 to 15K.  To prove my committment to this I signed up for a 5K on Saturday.  My results from this will set my VDOT for my run training schedule.  I've never actually "ran" a race before, so I am a bit nervous and excited to test my capabilities.  I predict I'll be very close to the 20 min mark with the goal of going just under 20.  I'll probably doing one threshold run this week and lots of easy miles.

Open to warmup and prerace advice Newbz!

Weighed in at 154.4 this morning.  I think that will be somewhat short lived though after yesterday's tough workouts.  I'll be happy if I maintain 156 for most of this week.

Did a super easy 3 miles this morning.  I definately need a down week.  Hoping to get in a relaxing 2k OWS after work.

I heard today on ESPN that out of over 6,000,000 brackets, only 2 people had this final 4!  Now, that's some March Madness for you.

Maintaining around 180lbs for the last few weeks.  I need to mix things up to get down to 170-175.  Just over 2 months 'til our multisport season starts here (sprint du).  Can't wait!  Did my first bike/run brick of the season yesterday... I hit 40km/hr on the flats, with a nice tailwind , but the headwind going uphill killed me... averaged about 25km/hr.  Can't wait to get back out there.

I find it hard to believe that 2 people actually had this final four.  Seriouslly...VCU and Butler?  I wonder who these two brackets have winning it all?
