Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED That is pretty amazing and saddening at the same time. I didn't know that was such an issue with lacrosse. Is it that the ball is thrown so hard it shocks the heart into stopping beating? And the chest protector doesn't help as much? |

Its a perfect strom so to speak it its the ball hitting the chest with in 20 milliseconds of the peak of the heart beat. Padding does not help. However AEDS save lives!! |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED triguy1043 - 2012-02-08 6:46 AM I need a place to vent!!! For the last 10 years I have coached boys lacrosse. This past summer I had an awful experience where a player I was coaching was hit in the chest with a shot from another player and went into Cardiac Arrest. I had to do CPR and we shocked him and today the 16 year old young man is still alive. My vent is this past Friday night a 12 year old boy was struck in the chest with a shot from another lacrosse player and yesterday he sercomed to his injuries. This Stinks But God is Good!! Its just one of those days http://blog.syracuse.com/sports/2012/02/twelve-year-old_boy_in_rochest.html http://blog.syracuse.com/sports/2011/06/j-d_lacrosse_player_revived_af.html http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2011/06/miracle_on_the_lacrosse_field.html
Such a terrible tragedy. It's great to know you were able to save the other player earlier, though. |

New Haven, CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Artist - 2012-02-07 10:04 PM speaking of flip turns-I cut seven seconds off my 50 this week. That is huge for me and I DID NOT use a flip turn (ha ha). This master's class is paying dividends. I am finally feeling the water rather than fighting it. On another note I was bummed because my zoomers came today and they are too small-have to send them back for the right size. just remember, flip turns speed you up dramatically in the pool. But have not effect on OWS time. When I do flip turns I cut 10 seconds off my 50 time without any additional effort. But, this is why (a) i dont do flip turns [also they cause my calves to cramp more] and (b) i dont push off. Its also why my pool times and OWS time equate (in fact my OWS swims are usually faster because of the wetsuit advantage). If you make training harder that racing you will race faster. I am not saying do or dont do flip turns. just understand what they are. |

Extreme Veteran 678 Rome, NY | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED In other news Lance Armstrong first hinted at his return to triathlon in the weeks leading up to the Xterra USA National Championship in Utah last September (after more than two decades away from the sport) by taking to Twitter, where his alter ego, @juanpelota, dropped a number of clues about the venue of his much anticipated triathlon comeback. Armstrong is again tweeting cryptic messages that may reveal plans for his next triathlon, this time suggesting Ironman Panama 70.3 this Sunday. On Tuesday morning he tweeted a link to a Van Halen music video for the song “Panama.” At first glance it seems a shaky connection, but consider an earlier tweet from Jan. 8: “Reading @nytimes travel section. Rates top 45 places to travel to in 2012. Panama is # 1. Hmm, interesting.” PHOTOS: Exclusive Photos Of Lance Armstrong’s Return To Tri We know that he’s been hard at work swimming, biking and running via Twitter updates like this one from a week ago: “Great training day. 2600 in the pool, 85 miles on the bike, then 5 mi run straight off the bike…” If he does toe the line this Sunday, he’ll find strong competition in friend and fellow cycling star Chris Lieto, as well as Rasmus Henning, T.J. Tollakson, Bert Jammaer, Matty Reed and Jesse Thomas. Stay tuned for updates and reports from the Triathlete.com crew in Panama this weekend |

So sorry to hear this! One of our lacrosse players at Cornell passed away my senior year from this same thing happening -the ball hit him in the chest and stopped his heart. It's scary how often it seems to happen in lacrosse, since the balls are thrown so hard. |

I have a bunch of personal stuff going on (all good) but it's kept me from working out with any consistency and also kept me off of BT for almost a week. I'm hoping to try to get back to normal here soon. |

Now I am working on OWS so for me I don't feel the need to do them. I agree with you that its about training hard not a great 50 time. I am just happy I made some decent progress finally.Artist - 2012-02-07 10:04 PM speaking of flip turns-I cut seven seconds off my 50 this week. Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Since we are doing nutrition ... here is my meal that I have been eating lately that is good and quick Salad: mixed greens, carrots, broccoli, dried cranberries, diced up turkey, 1-2 pieces of cheese torn up and thrown in, balsamic vinagarette When I started eating these salads back over the summer it pulled down my chlorestrol to 155, which is huge for me. I am not a nutrition expert, however, this is way, way better then I have been eating. The only problem with this weight loss challenge is I have already lost 40 lbs and my clothes don't fit, and I am too cheap to buy more, an additional 30 will make me look like a rapper with my pants down to my knees! |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED What up peeps? Great PT session this morning, finally able to start working with light weights. 10 lb curls!!! Damn!!!! And got to do some light shoulder presses on the machine along with the hand bike. Finally, some action. I've got about 4 hours of volume in this week so far, not including today. Mostly stationary bike, and a bit of walking on the treadmill with incline. 2 1/2 more weeks and I shold be cleared for running. So I signed up for a March 11th 5k. Not expecting great results with that, so I am there for the T-Shirt! Have a great day! |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Trainer session and core work at 5 this morning, and then I squeezed in a five mile run after preschool drop off. I have a scheduled rest day tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to it. Our house goes on the market in 3 weeks, and we have lots of work to do before then. Question.....I was thinking of skipping the clip on aero bars for this season. I am comfortable in the drops of my road bike, and I plan on buying a tri bike for next season (if I have success this year at the HIM distance). Do you think I need the aero bars? Or do you think I'll be ok in the drops? I have Giant Defy road bike if that helps. |

Carrie I'm still rocking clothes, well shirts, from when I was 220. Funny sight. I told Cindy I'm more worried about my wetsuit not fitting than my work clothes. Go figure. 2k+ in the pool and lifting fasted this morning. At this point 4 of 6 training days are fasted. Long run and long ride days are the exception. Will sneak an hour or a bit more in on the trainer at lunch. Abby's 3rd bday is Sautrday so I'm having to clean so we can have a select few friends over after her gymnastics party. |
