DrPete - 2008-09-09 1:14 PM There is nothing more frustrating than trying to get through to someone who just won't listen when you try to tell them something that will help them.

Agreed

Yeah, but it's so fun to sit back and watch the aftermath.  I love a good "I told you so..."

ETA:  But since it's a doc. that made the post, maybe they are not listening to something that could help their health.  then it's not as fun to sit back and watch.  I'm not that cruel...

Yeah, it's a health thing. I have a very challenging diabetic patient who doesn't control her sugars very well, weighs 400 pounds, and refuses to hear from anyone that she needs to change her diet, start a light exercise program, etc. She's just not ready to hear it. Meanwhile I'm managing the chronic wound on her infected leg.

GD...

I would have been ready to hear what you had to say at about 250 (and I'm 6'7" ).  Then the leg on top of that?

Maybe she doesn't care if she dies from it...

Bless you and your patience, man (and yes, I mean patience, not patients). Apparently, she doesn't care whether she lives or dies.

Denise2003 - 2008-09-09 10:31 AM I paid $350 for a miniature chair that I can't even sit in.

Interesting. I know people that have pianos in there house for decoration.

The piano in my parents' house is for decoration now. But it used to be mine I just don't have anywhere to put it here, so it lives there I miss it. It's nothing special - just an upright, not a baby grand or anything.

If I had a HUGE house, and a spare room. I would get a baby grand... I can sort of play though. I'm not sure how much I would play with all my other activities. Could be good if there are kids, no? I would also get the kind that can play by themselves, you know, for parties...

I would love to have a baby grand. I miss playing so much. Right now I'm looking at getting an electric piano so that I have something to play that fits in my apartment.

I've sort of considered that. But no extra cash right now. Trying to figure out how to be more useful to the worship band (which includes learning guitar), so if I join, I'm not just stuck singing harmony cuz my piano skills are rusty and I haven't mastered the guitar yet. We don't have any good singers, so it would behoove me to learn/polish up those instruments. Maybe next year, I can join. I know that sounds egotistical, but seriously - the other young adult group at the mega-church has a ton of really good singers (their bands are awesome). Ours, not so much. Or at least, the good singers aren't joining the worship band because they kind of suck.

This is a little off of the subject, but my best friend was here this weekend from Florida and we went to Best Buy to get his parents a GPS for their car. While we were waiting we were messing around in the instrument room and we found a fog maker for very cheap - like $40 - that would make 1500 SqFt of fog per minute after a 5 minute warm-up. So he gets this idea that he is going to buy one and then use it at home when he is playing Guitar Hero, just to freak his wife out. So he buys it (it's really small and he left it in the bag and took it back in his luggage). So, I get a call from his wife this morning, and she is furious at me. I ask her what's up, totally blind sided, and he blamed it on me, saying that I had one and talked him into it, and since it was on clearance, he couldn;t take it back. All of this was pretty much a fabrication. So I took the bullet for him and now she blames me. I am still going to be their baby's godfather - but she is not pleased. Makes me laugh.

$40 bucks and she's wiggin' out.  Sheez.  I mean, you could have easily spent that on drinks.  Are they some bigger issues here?

She's not wigging about the money -0 she's wigging about the fog.

I am really glad that I do not live in Boston anymore, within walking distance of the carry-out Thai place. I would weigh 200 lbs. Which would not be cute on my frame. Not dissing anyone who is a healthy 200 lbs

Ramen is gross, though. But it was amazing at 3 am in college, after a long night of drinking.

What are some easy ways to lower cholesterol? I'm kind of on the high side of the acceptable scale.

The doc said diet and excercise. Well, I think I excercise enough, so what about diet? Just low fat stuff? I thought I kind of did that already...

I hear oatmeal is suppose to help lower your levels.

Not on me, though. I'd be gross and no one would want to "push it". I'm a shortie, and naturally small - I have little bones - teeny tiny wrists, feet and hands/fingers.

Oh, yeah, I used minimal water when I made it. I don't like it soupy.

And yes, oatmeal is good for lowering cholesterol.

Right. But you're telling her she needs to control her blood sugar levels, change her diet, start exercising, etc. On top of ALL OF THAT, she's dealing with an infected leg. Did you ever think that maybe she's overwhelmed? That is a lot to process. A LOT. On top of that, i bet someone suggested walking, and for someone that heavy and with an injured leg? BRILLIANT.

Rynamite - 2008-09-09 11:45 AM Yeah really, 40 bucks? He could probably find that much money by searching through pockets of coats he hasn't warn for a few years.

Evidently I wasn't clear - This thing puts out 1500 Cubic Feet (I may have said square earlier) of fog per minute and he is using it to play guitar Hero - a PS3 game that he plays ------ in the house.  1500 Cubic Feet will fill a 10x15x10 room.  That's a ton of fog for a room that is smaller than that.  It might just - and you sciantists help me here - start to ease out of the room and fill other parts of the house.

It is all diet... Lots of healthy eating... whole grains.

Sometimes you can't get it all the way down. A low grade statin may have to be used. I am sure that I will have that issue in a couple years. All my grand parents and both my parents have this issue.

Use me - I am 41 and didn't control my diabetes.  I have had a double vitrectomy (That is basically an interior eye operation to stop the stem of blood flow to the eyeball, for you innocent bystanders) and two new organs out of the deal.  All kinds of fun.
