I'm going to go for a 40ish mile bike ride with a couple friends later this morning.  It's going to be mellow since two of us have been sick.

I hope I won't be riding by myself.  They have not called me yet this morning.  Hmmmm.  I'll still go to the meeting place and wait for them to show up.

I seem to be doing really well with my swim goal!  I'm way over!  I think I'm finally figuring out when gym childcare is open during non-water aerobics times!  Yippee!

OK.....off to switch the pedals from my tri bike to the road bike.

I only have one set of pedals for the two bikes.  I'm unwilling to ride the tri bike gearing on our hills around here when I'm getting over a cold.  I really should buy another set of pedals.

Bye bye!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday.

I'm about to leave for the airport to go to Kona...to golf...LOL.  I woke up really early this morning, so I got some transition practice in.  I still don't know how guys can jump on their bikes and put their slip their feet in their shoes while riding.  I'm going to stick with conventional put on shoes, stop, mount, and go...then unclip, stop get off and go.  Not only is it easier...but faster for me.  I suppose because that's what I do all the time when normally riding.

Anyway...I'll check back in when you all are sleeping tonight (about 8pm Hawaii time).

mchally - 2010-03-19 8:15 PM My energy bars have rolled oats (certified gluten free), shredded coconut, peanut butter, pumpkin puree, a bit of maple syrup, chopped pecans, raisins, a bit of cinnamon and a dash of salt.

They are in the oven right now. I'll know how they turn out in twenty minutes or so.

The bit I licked off of my hands tasted good though.

Sounds good!  Do you ship to California?

and Hawaii?!

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-20 1:33 PM TWISTER'ss - all total = 70+ miles today in 3 different sessions or so I am calling them!.  Would have been more but the lbs and my bike took about 3+ hours to wrap up!

We wanted to go 9 speed because of chain conditions but the cog was 10 speed somehow so they switch that and then realize the shifters are 10 speed shifters.  Back goes on the 10 speed cassette and 10 speed chain and then tires/fenders/rack/computer install.  I did fenders and rack and water bottle switch out - oh and pedals.

Left the other bike at the shop for a pre-sale tune up and it is on the market - let me know if interested.

Oh and my new bike - LUV IT!!!!!!!!!50 of the 70 miles were on her today - yeah.

I think I am tired though!

WHOO-HOO!!!  That is great Bill  Cool

Did a brick session today to try and make up for the days off lately.  Still on track for my goals, though.  I did a bike-run, and am quite happy with my times.   Smile

Hope you are all having a great weekend.

Swim-bike-swim for me today.

Rough start to the day though.  MTB had a flat (goat head in the tire), so I choose to take the tri bike instead.  Left the house and forgot my swim shorts, so had to turn back and get them.  Then, as I'm getting into the pool, my jammers rip right up the crack.  Luckily, I had the pool to myself, so I pretty much swam with my butt hanging out.  That had to an awful sight!Embarassed

It felt good to mix up the workouts a little though.

I got a swim-bike brick in today.  Now I am at my folks where my mom wants me to 'tell' her about the plants that are coming up.

Okay, time for the energy bar recipe.  First I must give credit to the source.  I pulled it from a Cycling Bar Recipe section in Northwest Cyclist 2010 Annual Guide.  I put astriks by the extra ingredients I added.

Energy Bars

Ingredients

Base:
3 c rolled oats
1 c boiling water
1 tbsp oil (canola, flax seed, etc...I used coconut oil)
1 tsp salt

Add one or more (sweets):
1/3 c honey
1/3 c molasses
1/3 c maple syrup*
1/2 c date puree
1/2 c pumpkin puree*
1/2+ c banana puree
1/2+ c raisins*
1/2+ c craisins
1/2+ c dried cherries

Add one or more (nuts/protein):
2/3 c chopped almonds, peanuts, pecans*, walnuts, cashews, etc.
1/2+ c peanut butter*
1/3 c flax seeds, sunflower seeds, etc
1/2+ c shredded coconut*

Try some spices/flavoring
1/2 tbsp cinnamon*
1/2 tbsp allspice
1/3 c cocoa powder
orange or lemon zest

Directions

Place oats, salt, and oil in a large bowl and place the remaining ingredients of your choice into another bowl.  Add the boiling water to the oat mixture and stir until mostly incorporated.  Add the remaining ingredients and stir until it forms a solid mass and all the water has been absorbed.  Cover the mixture with a towel or plastic wrap and let sit for 15 minutes.

Remove the mixture and place it on a pastry mat or oiled cutting board.  Use a rolling pin to flatten mix until it is 1/2 inch thick rectangle or square. (I put a little oil on my hands and just squished it into a large flat rectangle).  Cut into desired shapes and sizes.

Preheat oven to 325* F.  On the stove, heat a skilled and lightly sear the bars before placing on a cookie sheet that is lightly oiled or covered with parchment paper.  Once all bars have been seared, place the cookie sheets in the oven for 30-45 minutes.  Let cool before storing.

Note:  If you add more than one ingredient from each category you may need to decrease the amounts added to maintain the overall nutrient balance and bar consistency.  (or you can increase the amount of base mixture).

Only if I am allowed to send it in a Christmas tin.  I have a whole box full of fun Christmas tins sitting up in the attic.

It is nice to have a green thumb, but it often leads to a sore back.

Sore or sunburned?  Both?

I think those tins are a crime!  My boys and I make cookies for grandparents every year, but we send in a plain ole cardboard box with a bow.

In fact, we're making cookies right now.  But, I guarantee, they are no where near healthy!

I was thinking muscle soreness, but sometimes the sunburns happen too.  they are usually on the face, neck and shoulders though.
