I just know she wanted to when she passed me in Boise, but I was really busy...
Hate to break it to you, but I'll be there and already sent her an email with pictures of my hotel-room shrine to her, complete with candles and a sponge she used on the course in Kona that I bought on ebay. She'll be too impressed with me to notice you. best post ever |

It will be my second Ironman. :-) While I'm in town, I plan on checking out the race courses, and in particular I want to experience what it's like swimming in Tempe Town Lake -- the temperature, visibility, etc. I don't need to swim the actual course, anywhere in the lake would be fine. Is that possible? The swim on Saturday is for racers only so is there another time/place that I could do a practice swim? And good luck to all the racers! I'll be at the finish line to "catch" you. :-) |

Veteran 416 Denver | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm volunteering this year, so I can register for 2013 onsite on Monday after the race. About a month ago I started checking vrbo. One night I sent out 10 inquiries, but only got 5 responses. Three of them were already booked for next year (the 3 that were at the top of my list) & I booked one of the other 2 that responded back to me. So I'm assuming that the other 5 that didn't respond were also booked up. Like someone already mentioned, it looks like some of the houses are older, but well maintained or remodeled. But I'll take an older house over a hotel room any day Good luck with your search
KeriKadi - 2012-11-08 1:32 PM I'm a stalker Hoping to get in IMAZ 2013. It would be great if I could find a place to stay so I could book it right after registration. Any suggestions? We need a good sized place, we will have 4 of our kids with us. TIA |

JasenGuy - 2012-11-08 2:43 PM Hello, everybody... Last night during my swim, I got one of those monster cramps in my calf. (I swear, every time I swim after my run this seems to happen) This one was so bad that I couldn't even point my toe up for a while to loosen it back up...It's also left me pretty sore all day today. I have a 1:00/30:00 min brick planned tonight...I also have an Ironman planned next weekend. Since I don't know what kind of injury "cramp soreness" is (tear, bruise, inflamed, etc.) I wasn't sure it is something that I can aggravate by training on it... At this point, I know that "the hay is in the barn", but I'd like to stick to my plan if I can...Is a cramp something that lead to actual injury?? Should I just rest it for the day and maybe throw in a quick run after my ride tomorrow?? I thank you in advance... I tend to do my swims as the last workout of the day. After long days, I can get cramps in my legs also. Typically I find that I'm either kicking too hard with pointed toes or pushing off the wall too hard. Like most muscle pains, it's likely the muscle was injured slightly when cramped. I would stretch and roll it for the pain. You should still be able to get your swim in if you want, but try not to be a slave to your plan. If you swim, be cognizant of your push-off and toe pointing. The good news is that you get to swim first at IMAZ. If you're kicking too hard (or pointing your toes too much) you may still get cramps. |

I think part of it is the constant push offs at the walls in the pool. The biggest advice I can give - rumble roller. These things are way better than a foam roller and the nubs really dig in and help break up the muscles that are basically stuck together. Check out SMR.networkfitness.com for some help on using these. The site is run by a trainer/crossfit coach I workout with. He specializes in SMR, self Myofascial release. Veteran 820 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread the weather is changing, and will change everyday until the race, now weather.com is showing sunshine 79 and 5 mph wind, accuwether is showing bright sunshine, 78 with 2 mph winds gusting to 10.
TTL weather monitor shows the water is 67, that will come down probably 3-4 degrees this weekend with highs only in the 60's. |

Thanks I would park/start on the SW corner of College & Curry just north of Tempe Town Lake (the race start)...The best route to take, traffic wise, would be to head north on College to McKellips. (this road can be a bit busy) Right on McKellips to Alma School. Head north on Alma School to McDowell and then take McDowell east until you hit the Beeline. The course turned around at Shea BLVD. I tried pulling up the link to the map, but it's not loading...Here's the link just in case you can get it to load later. |

Tempe is only 5 hours drive south (which means they are typically 5-10 degrees warmer). BUT, it's supposed to warm up. Make sure you bring warm pre/post race clothes. When the sun goes down, it gets chillly fast in these parts. |

Something that can handle 50-60 degrees. Daytime is still jeans/shorts and T-shirt if in the sun. Maybe long sleeve in the shadows. At night, light jacket or sweatshirt. It all depends on how you can handle it. My blood has thinned out living here, so I may even wear a light stocking hat or baseball hat at night. When my head/torso is warm. I'm happy. |

I;m going to be out there running in the dark for a good part of the marathon...*hoping* for a 14 hour finish. I definitely want to wear a jacket to stay warm and will pack it in my special needs bag (and have an extra set of arm warmers in T2 just in case). This might sound silly but I don't want to be wearing my jacket when I cross the finish line because I want my finish picture to just be me in my race kit. Can I just toss my jacket off the course or at the last aid station? I don't mind losing it (Ironman is so expensive anyway, what's throwing away some more money in the form of a jacket...sad, but true). Will I be disqualified or anything for doing this? I don't want to get in trouble for "littering" or anything. |

If you have anyone cheering you you can throw it to them right before you finish that way you wont lose a perfectly good jacket, and you wont get D'QD.
Also when mentioned that it gets cold fast at night, what kinda temp are we talking about? 50s, 60s.... |
