The weather here is just awful. I just keep thinking about being in Austin in a few weeks, hopefully that will get me through...never thought I would be so excited about going to Texas!

I hit 268.32 Miles this month! This is very exciting for me. It feels so big right now until I look at my 4 year plan and it seems very insignificant haha.

Happy Leap Day ya'll!

One step of your run today was an integral part of that very 4-year plan.

You are AWESOME, Salty, and look at how far you've already come.

Insignificant!!!!! What the...    thats incredibleSurprised.    One day i hope to hit a tenth of that.

If you come to England, you can be in my gang.

Ahem. Salty and I are a two-for-one deal. You can't split up the set. Like the twin beds Mr. and Mrs. Fawlty slept in.

Hmmm this must be British humor going over my head. Can I play the "I'm too young to remember" card?

And did you really say bed(S)?

Not on Fawlty Towers, I have the entire series on DVD...

So I took three full days off after training through a nasty infection (both pre and post op for a tooth extraction) ... yeah, not doing so well on the "of course I don't train when sick" front ...

Now I'm in the last big training cycle (week-ish, adjusting for the days off will probably spread over more days) before taper for IM Melbourne.

Almost there!  You've got this!

The longest ride I did before B2B was 6 hours, with a 7 hour Trainer Ride under your belt -- and your super awesome swimming -- you've got this thing!  Woo hoo!

Today's plan is for a 5 mile run w/hills...meh, I hate to admit it, but I am not feeling it today; not like I DON'T want to do it, but that I am just completely bored with the idea. I think its just the damp, grey weather talking...or at least I hope so.

On another front, I DO get to do some tree trimming today. We got a notice from our city saying that the trees in front of our house overhanging the sidewalk are TOO LOW--so now I have to trim a bunch of large branches off; funny thing, in 8 years, they haven't been a problem, but all of sudden, its a terrible thing and we MUST trim them in 7 days (and the inspector WILL come back to check!). I'm thinking someone complained....grrr. Seriously, Clint and I are very nice, quiet neighbors, we keep to ourselves--we don't complain about the neighbor's LOUD dogs that are left out all the time, the LOUD parties in the summer next door that go on ALL NIGHT, the lights that shine right INTO our windows EVERY night, or even the fact that our neighbor hacked the crap out of our oak tree (1: at a certain size, hacking up oak trees is illegal here! 2: he cut one half off the tree off--poorly, so it may now get sick and die) because it shed leaves over his yard--without even telling us (c'mon dude, we would have said that's fine...we would of even helped!). So yeah, I am a little peeved, but of course, I will trim the trees, they do need it, and the branches will be used at the zoo by the animals, but still...

Okay, I am done with my rant.

I did notice your 6 hour trainer ride in one of your earlier blogs which impressed the heck out of me, and for that reason alone you can also be in my gang, although your impassioned plea and the very idea of a two for one deal would have got you in anyway.

Really got a buzz going off the Faulty Towers gig. I'm amazed you yanks get the 'british' sense of humour. I was a big fan of Manuel the waiter myself. He actually is a very well spoken guy who did a lot of voice-overs for nature documentaries.

Finally, for salty's info, when i were a lad, being in a gang was all about who you shared your tuffies (sweets) with.

Nah, to place a photo there is a little icon in your reply box(I think it's supposed to be a tree) if you hover over it it says insert/edit images and you copy and paste the image URL.  This means that your photo has to be hosted elsewhere. Ya just gotta get out there and slog through it sometimes. I often think those end up being some of the best training sessions.

Also, I was a royal PAIN IN THE A$$ neighbor when I was in college. (You don't even want to know some of the stories I have) Since I have made the transition to a home-owning-complain-about-those-pesky-kids adult, I just suck it up and take it as I think it's revenge karma. I deserve everything I get, haha.

Tree trimming is done--I went and found a somewhat cheap pole saw (the kind with a chainsaw--HEEHEE Power tools!!!Laughing) Unfortunately, I then installed the chain backwards...I couldn't figure out why the thing wouldn't cut through the limbs!!! Clint came home and tried it--and immediately figured out what I didEmbarassed; we fixed it and the limbs are history. Poor, sad trees. between the pines today, and the oak that my neighbor massacred, it looks pretty pathetic around here. With the cutting (manually) and the hauling/breaking/clean up, I count that as a workout too.

I fit in my run beforehand, it was the five miles, but my heart wasn't in it...and my speed shows it. Tomorrow's a rest day, and I plan on enjoying a 'girl's night in' get together...It is much needed.

Had already checked out the tree icon (i'm not that much of a muppet). The photos are just loaded onto my computer so not hosted anywhere, but lots of our fellow manatees have set photos into the thread so i figure there must be a way. No doubt Queen of the Pop Tarts (or one of the other useful manatees) will easily talk me through it.

Good effort with The Office, but it's not the same type of humour as Basil and his crew knocked out 30 years earlier. If you try to catch up on a few episodes via u tube or similar, check out the sign in front of the hotel at the start of each episode. Only 12 x 30 min episodes were ever made so it wouldn't take much to enrich your life.

You can do it a number of ways: upload to flicker, upload to facebook and then drag it to message or email photo to yourself and then drag to the message.  After using all these messages, I finally figured out I could just drag the photo from my iphoto albums directly into the message.

It went well, I also managed to get in a short swim!

There are now 3 ways to get into Kona  1) Qualify in age group (maybe when I'm 90 and have aero wheels on my walker and a Depends Tri Suit that I can wear the entire race) 2) Lottery - I think there are 100 names drawn annually.  The lottery is open to anyone, but you must complete one branded IM the in the same year before Kona  3) Now can complete 12 branded IM's to gain entry.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Nope, that's pretty much it. A few notes:

1) That usually means winning your AG in an IM or very select 70.3s, or if it's a huge AG, very near the top.

2) TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ENTER THE LOTTERY FOR KONA 2012. Lottery just got a lot more complicated this year. Yes, there are 100 selected General Entries; 1 lottery entry is $40. You can purchase one additional entry for $50. HOWEVER, for each year past since 2004 you entered the lottery, you are given an additional entry.

To give you an idea of the odds, in years past, 7000-8000 people purchased entries; anywhere between 1000-2000 also purchased the additional entry. Rumors are that this year, thousands more have both entered and purchased the additional entry because of Lance fever.

3) Yes, 12 branded full IM races. There's estimated to be only several score AGers who have done this (of course there will be more each year). You're not guaranteed immediate entry, there's a kind of line and system, but within a couple 2-3 years they expect all the 12ers as of now will be accommodated and they'll see from here on out about future qualifiers.

Everyone wanting to do Kona must have completed a 70.3 or full Ironman branded race by the end of August. No exceptions.

I had been thinking about entering the lottery too, but originally decided to wait til next year.  However, I saw they extended the deadline until March 9th, so I thought "what the hell, I'll donate $40 to WTC".  But, when I read the prerequisites, I see "...Athletes must be registered for an Ironman event in 2012 *2.4 mile swim, 112 mile-bike, 26.2-mile run."  I don't see anything about a 70.3 distance being enough to validate your entry.  Am I missing it?  I could get a 70.3 in before Kona, but no way I can get a 140.6 completed.  Thanks.

ETA:  nevermind, i realized I was looking at the prereqs to be a "legacy".  So, I guess I'll go ahead and donate now

Sorry to be such a muppet everyone, but how does one upload a photo here cos i have finally got stuff worth looking at and no idea how to do it.

And before you ask, Salty, no its not porn.

You cannot upload photos -- porn or otherwise -- directly to this thread.  You have to upload it somewhere else (flickr, picasa, photo upload site of your choice, etc.) and then link to it.  To get the URL do the Right-Click -> Copy Image Location thing and past that in (use the Insert / Edit Image thing on the edit bar at the top of the post -- the one with the tree icon.

  1. Upload photo somewhere
  2. Get URL
  3. Use the Tree Icon thingie when creating your BT post with an image in it
  4. Past the URL from step 2 into the space provided

Or else do the way easier dragging to the message thing that Ann-Marie mentioned above!

Asalzwed - 2012-03-01 6:33 PM Ya just gotta get out there and slog through it sometimes. I often think those end up being some of the best training sessions.

Mental toughness day...

God knows my life needs to be enriched. I am sure some outdated British comedy is EXACTLY what it's lacking
