custer - 2009-03-15 10:24 PM What is a "fluid trainer?" And are all trainers going to eat up my tires? How do you adjust for different tension...I mean, is that different for various trainers?

There  is a dial to adjust tension. Fluid trainer is one that uses fluid as resistance.

Invest in a trainer tire otherwise it will ruin your tire and one trainer tire is cheaper and will last longer as you can use it every winter.

Plus trainer tires don't make as much noise as regular tires being shredded on the trainer.

I have a cycle ops trainer...like this

Shop around on line and you can get one for less and also compare shipping costs as that often makes a huge difference in total cost. I bought mine on ebay back 4 years ago.

This is the trainer tire I have and bought it here no tax or shipping or duty

Swim date with my husband done already this morning; 7 mile run later; going to bake black bean brownies (no flour or sugar) and healthy and maybe some date nut bread....one is my healthy chocolate fix and other is great recovery food.

Anyone working on HIM or IM nutrition my tri coach who is an MD and has written paper on endurance athlete nutrition put his recommendations on his blog ....

Helen somehow I know you'll get some cycling in but how's the weather up there? Warm enough to bring the hot bike outside yet?

The black bean brownies sound great. Will you share the recipe? I'm all about healthier treats.

I'm looking forward to class tonight ... it's outside and the weather is supposed to be great tonight. I rescheduled my meeting with my boss to give notice at my job today. Wish me luck.

Anyone have big plans this week?

I was just about to say they sound amazing, yet scary at the same time

I'd love to get a good recipe for gluten-free brownie!  My step-mom, who I'll be vising in NC later this week, has Celiac and I'm always looking for something to cook with my little half-sis (who is a whopping 21 years younger than me!) but I feel bad when her mom can't join in the fun.

Thank you everyone for the kind words while I was incommunicado.  I was up in Northern California attending a conference and then visiting my granchildren.  I did very little exercise (mostly walks and bike rides at the speed and distance of a 4 year old).  I tell you, once I lost the peach streak, it was really hard to keep motivated.  I hadn't understood how important that was to me.

So, the only thing to do is to get another streak going.  I am going to Europe the first of June and so my current plan is to be in perfect physical shape by May 31.  Does that seem like a lofty goal to you?

Black Bean Brownies

15oz-1 can of Black beans drained and rinsed
4 large eggs seperated
1-1.5 C Splenda
3 Tbsp baking cocoa
2 Tbsp strong coffee-I don't use it as I don't like coffee
1 Tsp baking powder
2 Tbsp smart spread or canola oil-often I skip this
1 Tsp vanilla extract

Preheat over 350
Prepare a 8x8 baking pan with Pam

Blend the egg yolks, splenda, baking powder, smart balance, vanilla, coffee and cocoa in a blender or with a food processor. Add beans, puree until smooth.Transfter bean mixture to a bowl if using a mixer.

In a separate bowl whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form. Mix 1/3 of the egg whites into the bean mixture to lighten the bean mix. Fold in the remaining egg whites in two portions. It's ok if some of the white streaks remain in the batter. Pour the batter into the baking dish.

Bake 350 for 35-40 minutes makes 16 2x2 servings.

Variations: add nuts, I like adding mint flavoring from Trader Joes.

Per serving 48 calories; carbs 4.5 g, protein 2.9 grams, Fat 1.7 grams

My kids used to eat them..now they ask "are they your brownies or normal ones?" When I used to work I'd share them and with others and they'd eat them say hmmm they taste different.

Not bad..really they aren't. I love chocolate and mint so the two together is good. I endulge in really top quality cocoa powder which is better.

Well, I am going to try them.  I haven't had much in the way of sugar or sugar substitutes since the end of the No Sugar Challenge (all I have had was a very small frozen yogurt last Thursday night) so I am not sure how these will be.  They have Splenda, but I wouldn't think that they would be very sweet.  I am going to make them in April when I will see my grandchildren again.  That will be a good test.  They get some sweets, but not a lot.

I'll take one for the team and try them this weekend. They don't sound that bad. I may even swap them out and see if my husband can tell the difference. I'm up for the challenge. Thanks for sharing Kathy.

I was complaining to my good friend MAV (that many of you know) about the last couple of months - this whole lack of job thing sucks and PMS really kicks in because i don't have the usual distractions... then i was just cruising the latest threads here on BT and found something amazing!

From now on I'll be watching this to remind me to visualize the big picture!

I watched it twice.  Yeah, really makes you appreciate what you can do and how stupid all the complaining and excuses are.  Either work out or don't.  If you don't, just don't.  Don't complain and justify.  But I had used some of those excuses myself before.  Makes me a little ashamed.  Thanks for posting the link.
