I think I can easily say that I would not, although I am not ready for any IM so that could change. Just out of curiosity, how much do the other IM's cost? |

Master 2538 Albuquerque | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED I really don't get the extra premium they are planning on charging for IMNY. That makes very little sense to me. Will it COST them 30% more to put on this event, because that's about the upcharge they are looking at doing. Or is the extra $ because of the prize money pool? If it is, then they need more sponsors and not rely on the amateurs to fund the prizes. |

I would never pay a $1000 for any race, especially a WTC race or Ironman New Jersey |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Yes congrats on the Oreo & Cookies Ice Cream Sandwich. (nice job on the race too!) I am one of those crazy people that probably would pay $1000 for a race. Not that I would be happy about it, but if that's what the fee was, and I really wanted to do it, I'd figure out a way to make it happen. The fee for other IM's is $595 (or about that, can't remember exact amount), so what's another $405 if it's a race you really really really want to do? That's how I would look at it anyway. |

I think I can easily say that I would not, although I am not ready for any IM so that could change. Just out of curiosity, how much do the other IM's cost? Right now they're between $575 and $625 before the active.com registration fees (you pay the fees whether you register on-site or on-line). WTC claims that IMNJ will cost "millions" more than a typical IM because of the permitting costs. There is still no title sponsor for the race but Steve Meckfessel seems to think that he can attract a big name title sponsor because of the location of the event. If you think about it they'll allow about 3000 entries at $1000 a piece for the race. So about $3 million in registration fees. If there is really a cost of "millions" for permits (let alone all the other costs) then registration fees wont even cover the cost of the race.

I would never pay a $1000 for any race, especially a WTC race or Ironman New Jersey I find this opinion interesting. You've never done a WTC race but have decided what your price point tolerance is without personal experience. I really curious, without personal experience, what is the reasoning (I'm not challenging your opinion, I'm just curious)? |

Heading our for a 2-ish hour ride this morning and then doing a sprint tonight (I'm supposed to run a 5K at best sustainable effort and I can't do that well on my own so I decided the swim-bike will be the warm up and then I'll see what I can do on the run). |

You've never done a WTC race but have decided what your price point tolerance is without personal experience. I really curious, without personal experience, what is the reasoning (I'm not challenging your opinion, I'm just curious)? In my personal opinion there is not a race fee on the planet worth $1000. I am also anti corporation, which is my issue with WTC. I know they put on a good race, i know they are successful, i know their show is first class. I have spoken to people, such as yourself, that have done them and love them, i have no doubt it is a class A operation and event. BUT, if i was ever to do an Ironman distance race, which will never happen, i would much prefer to give my money to a smaller venue and support them, i do not need the IM brand to validate my tri career. That is not to say i would not like to go do a Tri in Australia as part of a vacation, and do an Oly or MAYBE and that is a huge MAYBE a half iron distance if a non WTC event was being held. Of course that trip would be well over $1000 total, but there is other intrinsic value to it. There is no valid reason why i don't like WTC, i just don't. But you know me Kelly, i am an opinionated, cynical strange bird anyway. Let me know if you need me to edit the format of my post. |

I do not have one. i will do what i always do, and i will probably fail, but that is the hand i am playing. Swim...Destroy...Survive i guess we will know what my tolerance for pain is in a week and half. It will be epic though, that i will promise.

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED What type of workout should I do the day before a sprint race? My training plan calls for a long swim (1:15), so I was thinking I would keep the swim. My race is on Sunday, and I've changed nothing in my training up to this point. Also, what do you all consume on a 3 hour bike ride? I set off for 3 hours yesterday with 1 bottle of diluted gatorade, 1 bottle water, and 6 shot blocks. After 2 hours, my energy started to fade. I was doing lots of hills and my muscular endurance needs to improve, so that could be it. Did I take enough nutrition with me? It was about 100 degrees outside, too, which could also be a factor. |

New Haven, CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Would I pay $1000 for a race? Depends. If the expense was justifiable in the context of family finances, perhaps. Right now, it is not, so no, I wouldn't. I have never done a WTC race but they seem to produce a good race although, like any for-profit business, their goal is make as much money as possible so I think WTC over merchanizes and markets but that is the nature of business. At this stage of my life I race only locally andif i was going to do a destination race it absolutely would NOT be IM New Jersey on the middle of August. How the swim will work I do not know. If they do not nail the tides in the Hudson they will be fishing people out. I understand why WTC is doing this race (money/location) but it would not be for me. Now, the just annouced Quebec race, that sounds like the perfect venue. I do not know if i will ever do a IM (WTC or not). But, it will not be in New York in august if i do. |

Also happens some on the mountain bike, but not to the extreme of the roadie I have notoriously tight hammys. Pulled them a few times over the years. Obvious is stretch and roll. ALso: (1) use yog-type hamstrict streches for a longer deeper stretch (2) stretch, roll and stengthen the supporting muscle groups: weak and tight hip flexors are often the cause of hamstring and low back tightness. Big fan of the following circuit for hammy/hipflexor/glute stretch and strength: 3x circuit of walking lungs, step ups, side walking lunges, 1 leg squats. start with 3x 5, move up to 3x 20 very slowly. no weight. |
