Regular 138 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread If you have anyone cheering you you can throw it to them right before you finish that way you wont lose a perfectly good jacket, and you wont get D'QD.
Also when mentioned that it gets cold fast at night, what kinda temp are we talking about? 50s, 60s.... Wow, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I will have 5 people cheering for me and another 8 from my triathlon club who will finish before me and hopefully be there at the finish. I'll just ask a couple of them to wait further down the chute to grab my stuff. Looks like my Ironman fuzzy brain is already acting up! It's so funny during the race when the simplest things become so complicated. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread sbux87 - 2012-11-09 10:23 AM Kido - 2012-11-09 1:14 PM Not trying to spook anyone. But in Vegas this morning (cold front came in last night) it's 58 and very windy. So it CAN happen. Tempe is only 5 hours drive south (which means they are typically 5-10 degrees warmer). BUT, it's supposed to warm up. Make sure you bring warm pre/post race clothes. When the sun goes down, it gets chillly fast in these parts. I;m going to be out there running in the dark for a good part of the marathon...*hoping* for a 14 hour finish. I definitely want to wear a jacket to stay warm and will pack it in my special needs bag (and have an extra set of arm warmers in T2 just in case). This might sound silly but I don't want to be wearing my jacket when I cross the finish line because I want my finish picture to just be me in my race kit. Can I just toss my jacket off the course or at the last aid station? I don't mind losing it (Ironman is so expensive anyway, what's throwing away some more money in the form of a jacket...sad, but true). Will I be disqualified or anything for doing this? I don't want to get in trouble for "littering" or anything. well, I was done in about 12 last year, and I was using sponges for the daylight portion and the night portion I felt great. I think when you are moving, you won't need it. But it's up to you. The LOW is 57 and that's probably at 4-5am... It will still be in the 60-70 when you are running. That's great running weather. |

i do have more fat than most though, and im from up north where we wear shorts if its above 50 |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread cstoulil - 2012-11-09 11:53 AM I'm going to ride the course Tue or Wed, I heard the best to ride is mainly the Beeline since the other will have so much traffic.
Where is the best place to park/start from?
Thanks If you just want to ride Beeline, park at JR's gas station on the corner of Beeline and McDowell. You can then ride all the way up Beeline and back with only Gilbert Rd as a traffic light to delay you (if you miss the light). One recommendation: if you want to get a little climbing and mileage in, ride past Shea about 10 miles up to Bush Hwy, then turn around and come back. It is a clean ride, with only a couple stop lights, and round trip is about 44 miles. Or you can just turn around at Shea (Ironman turnaround) and get 22 round trip miles from the gas station. |

About a month ago I started checking vrbo. One night I sent out 10 inquiries, but only got 5 responses. Three of them were already booked for next year (the 3 that were at the top of my list) & I booked one of the other 2 that responded back to me. So I'm assuming that the other 5 that didn't respond were also booked up. Like someone already mentioned, it looks like some of the houses are older, but well maintained or remodeled. But I'll take an older house over a hotel room any day Good luck with your search
KeriKadi - 2012-11-08 1:32 PM I'm a stalker Hoping to get in IMAZ 2013. It would be great if I could find a place to stay so I could book it right after registration. Any suggestions? We need a good sized place, we will have 4 of our kids with us. TIA Thanks for the info. I don't need anything fancy. The place we stayed in FL was OK just the couch and and carpets were in severe need of cleaning. It met our needs which is what I will be looking for in AZ. Wow! I was going to recommend the timeshare in Mesa that I'm renting from Wed-to-Wed since it has two bedrooms, kitchen, etc. Then I realized its 18 miles from the race. Guess I should have planned this better... |

And here (Texas) we were jeans and jackets in the 50s. Although I do have to admit that I love running when it's in the 50s. I just can't stand still in it or I freeze. I will have a long sleeve top and gloves in special needs that I don't mind losing if I don't use or decide to toss later. |

I believe the IronKids run is 1 mile only - no other options. You can probably Google it to see if there are different distances, but I only recall the 1 mile run last year. |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Some of us swam Tempe Town Lake today for splash n dash. Water was about 66 degrees, which was pretty comfortable with a wetsuit on. I felt a chill for about 10 seconds when I got in the water, then felt fine the entire swim. The water was a murky as ever, and swimming east at 7:30-7:40 was a pain in the neck with the sun in our eyes. Could not see the sighting buoys at all, nor could I really see anyone in front of me if they were more than 5 feet ahead. We will have the sun in our eyes heading east next Sunday as well - so be prepared. |

If the sun is that bright, I'd imagine that nothing is really going to help, and I'd rather not have to buy a new pair when I love the ones I have. |

I roll with tinted Sables and I didn't find it too terrible out there...You won't be able to see anyone in front of you, but that's just how we roll at Tempe Town Lake. I didn't feel cold at all until about 2k in when my feet started getting really chilly. I wasn't going to wear my booties because of the slight drag that they cause, but I'm really considering it now. If the lake remains this warm I'll pass, but if it goes down to the low 60's I'll probably end up wearing them. It was cool meeting you, Patrick! Lloyd (Zero2Athlete) and I ended up meeting for a good ride up to the Beeline and back. The wind got up to 15mph, but the good news was it was at our backs on the way to Shea...As soon as the Beeline flattened out and onto McDowell it was a pain in the butt, though. |

I wore my blue tinted goggles today at TTL and they worked well- they cut a lot of the glare without being too dark when the sun is still low. Jason, my feet usually go numb, but I tried embrocation cream on them the last two cold swims, and it actually worked- I could feel my feet the whole time (and I was out there a looong time!) Veteran 930 Morgan Hill, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Was very happy to get in a run today with minimal pain in my Achilles. Lots of rehab to get to this point. Now, hopefully it holds up, and only issue will be the missed run training over the last 3 weeks. Hopefully I'll just be able to call that an extended taper, and with the increased focus on the bike during that time and some smart pacing, I'll be ok. But, today was very exciting to be able to run on it with hardly any pain. Looking forward to getting down there now! |

I just did an OWS in Lake Natoma too. It was cold, but as you said, once I got going it was fine. I think I'll be fine in my long sleeve wetsuit and just the race cap (I always swim with earplugs). I need to start organizing my gear for the drive down on Wednesday. Going to be a long 2 days of driving, but will make it easier to get around once I'm there. |

I'm a little anxious to not be able to see my bike is ok during the drive, but I think flying saves me a lot of stress about getting there. |
