Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED So Cindy is a big ball of stress right now. Can't really get herself to sleep at night because her mind is going a million miles a minute, can't stay asleep, and when she wakes it's back to a million miles a minute. Not good for her or for my sleep. I'm super cranky this morning and come to find out I left the filter from brain to mouth at home. YAY!! My employees are going to LOVE me today. Morning training was 30 minute run, leg strength and plyo circuits, 2 miles as fast as I could with whatever juice was left in my legs. I'm fried. |

After I take cookies to Conrad's first grade class, I'm going to do some shopping at our local running store. New shoes!! I'm also going to decide on the aero bars and order them. I was looking at the Vision minis and the Profiles. Opinions? I got an email saying that my Garmin 910 has shipped. Finally!!!! Can't wait to play.
I have the Vision minis and they are tiny I can barely fit past my wrist on them. I was not happy with them at all very hard position to hold and lots oof shoulder stress. I am 6'0 and run my regular bars at 290 mm though. Hmm. I was leaning toward the Vision's. I am 5'9 and all legs. What do you think?
I would go with a longer bar that you can cut down if you wanted to. Thats just my thoughts because there is no stretch to the Vision Mini |

Between being sick and my new asthma medication my HR is sky high whenever I do anything so my paces are slow. Its frustrating. I know my body is still recovering but I feel like being sick for a week was a HUGE step backwards. I'm also a big numbers person, so seeing my pace and power numbers go in the wrong direction is not fun. You need to chill. Stressing isn't going to get you better quicker and might prolong the issue. You know you have the base so your body will bounce back. You know how to HTFU and put the work in, so you'll make sure you're ready for racing come that time. I know this isn't very triathlete but roll with the punches on this one and focus on getting better. I agree with you, Scott, but I'm guessing you'd feel every bit as stressed as Kelly's feeling right now if your training were messed up for two weeks You're just as structured as she is about her training. That said, I agree that you have to roll with the punches, Kelly. I know it's hard, but go with it. Your asthma medication is most definitely causing your heart rate to remain elevated (I'm an asthmatic, too; remember?). Stick with it and your body will adjust to the medication. Maybe you should ditch the heart rate monitor while you're adjusting to the new inhaler. What did they put you on? Advair? That stuff works really, really well if taken as recommended.
Yes I'm very freaky like that. Maybe that's why I love this mentor group. And yes I'd be flipping out which is why I know what she needs, not wants, to hear. I'd need someone to shake me too. Kelly, you'll be ok. It may take your body a week or so to catch up to where it's supposed to be by the schedule but you have the work ethic to get there. So listen to the docs. Use it as a bit of down time to get caught up/ahead at work and home, and then kick a$$ when you're back to 90%. I'm freaky like that, too I hate missing training sessions. They set the tone for my entire day, and I've come to rely on them for stress relief. Edited by jarvy01 2012-02-10 8:30 AM |

Although I am no where at your level, my HIM plans were completely sidelined with this shoulder surgery so if you want my shoulder, I'll gladly take yours. . Secondly, I Amy be sidelined again with more sinus issues. Getting CT Scan at Yale today and then off to my surgeon to view and most likely schedule my 12th sinus surgery in as many years. This inflammation/sinus issue sucks. I've lost bone that lines and protects my right eye and also the bone that lines the brain area is also detioriorating. So I have to always be extremely careful with this. I'll tell you this though. Triathlon has changed my world tremendously and although for 12 years, I have the pressure of a sinus infection every single day of my life, this sport has brought me to a feeling I've never had. So thank you again triathlon and my friends here. Ok, I was trying to be sympathetic to Kelly, but that turned into sort of venting. Get better soon Kelly. |

Thank you for the feedback! ---sorry, my computer is doing bizarre things right now. The other thing is you can't just put aero bars on a road bike and expect to be comfrotable or get fast. Road bikes are disgned to put the rider in a specific position. If you put aero bars on a road bike, you need to also change your position so that you can effectively use the aero bars. I would go to bike shop, let them know that you want aero bars and have then re-fit your bike and suggest the best aero bars based on your bike and your measurements. Also realize that clip ons on a road bike will never make you as aero as aero bars on a TT bike. On a road bike, you are actually more aero when you ride in the drops than when you go out on the aero bars, its just hard for lots of people to hold a position in the drops for 2 or 3 hours. |

Love her but she can't compartmentalize. Like when she tries to calm her mind to do yoga a checklist of things she could be doing pops in. I've never had this issue. I'll admit my reaction to stress is to sleep though. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED sounds like there are many trying to get back into the swing of things and having to adjust to the painfully slow process of letting our bodies heal. I am there as well with this calf issue, and it is feeling better, but have not been allowed to push things. We have regrouped and are focusing on back strengthening and my PT pipes in while I was on the treddy running for warm up that if it is a disc issue I will have to lay off running. first bikiing and then running-really hard to do a tri that way. I am truely bummed, but going to hit the back exercises as hard as I can and see if I can avoid the laying off running and get back on the bike.

I have nights where my mind races and I cannot shut it off (usually related to work stress). I don't take it often, but if I can't sleep for several days I will take some melatonin and it relaxes me enough to be able to fall asleep. |

How soon after your hand enters the water do you start the catch? Should your hand glide forward for a little and then start? Or start almost immediately? I know my catch/pull is not very strong. But I also think I glide to much, and have slow turnover. (I wish I could wear fins in races.) |

But I also think I glide to much, and have slow turnover. (I wish I could wear fins in races.) If you are swimming in a pool and there's no interference with your stroke (e.g. if you in a swim race) its important to have a long stroke and it will make you faster. The problem is a long stroke doesn't really help you in open water (think about how much your stroke can get cut off in the front because of feet, waves and turbulence). If you look at some of the best ITU swimmers out there they look like washing machines with a shorter stroke in the front because they begin to pull immediately. It think that for OWS its important to start pulling immediately. I think about having "robot arms" that is starting to pull right away and keeping my elbows close to the surface (almost a 90 degree angle with my arms). The other thing to think about is having a strong back end of your stroke. While your front end can get cut off in OWS, you'll always have a back end. |
