Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD KansasMom - so glad your son was allowed to turn in his assignment late and still go on the ride AND he had a lot of fun. Wow, the salt museum sounds fun. What a shame that your little guy is afraid of going underground, but good for you for helping him understand the way to properly handle not going on the trip (just opting out rather than sabotaging). |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Interesting day at the pool for me yesterday. I rode my bike to and from the pool but that is irrelevant to my question.. I had a lane to myself for a few minutes but was quickly (and without warning) invaded by a swim team. So the kind man in the next lane offered to split a lane. Between sharing a lane and the activities in the next lane my water felt a bit like an ows. So I thought rather than get frustrated trying to swim fast I would work on my support side breathing so I did 100 left, 100 right etc. I was also trying to really concentrate on my form and work on elbows up when a question occured to me. What angle should my wrist be? I've heard the pull the box analogy. Do I start with a bent wrist as my hand enters and flow toward straight as my arm comes back? Started with a run this morning and have another swim on tap for this afternoon. Happy Tuesday everyone! |

Started with a run this morning and have another swim on tap for this afternoon. Happy Tuesday everyone! Exactly. Drop the wrist just a bit when your hand is fully forward (this is the CATCH), and try to get your elbow above it ASAP. (If you actually want degrees, about 30 from horizontal.) The problem with NOT dropping the wrist (keeping it straight at first) is that you wind up pushing water DOWN, which makes your body pop UP instead of FORWARD. |

Veteran 478 Hoosier heartland | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Congrats Jogo on your accomplishment on a day with tough conditions!! You really pulled it together with an impressive time. Thank you Thank you Yanti for posting that swim link. I don't do the breath control drills only because it never felt natural and the ONE time I tried, I really struggled. I breath every two strokes and it works for me. I use a pull bouy on occasion and practice bilateral breathing, but it really feels most comfortable breathing every two strokes turning my head to the left. Of course I still consider myself a newbie type swimmer with a long way to go before I'm proficient in the water. On another note, today I did 2500 yards in the pool which is great for me! However, I kept getting cramps in my lower calf, than foot. Than I got cramps in my other foot. Geez, I kept cramping all over the place!! So I'm not sure if it is a nutrition issue, hydration issue, or muscle fatigue issue. So when I got home, I ate a burger, drank some gatordade, and put on my compression socks. Hope everyone is having a great day! |

I just reserved it at my library. Woooot, it's getting close to time for me to start o....m......g.....SWMMING! I am excited about CW's book too. I had a really good conversation with her about everything she does to support the Blazeman Foundation for ALS. It's really great to see a professional use their success as a platform to inspire change and awareness. |

I've heard drinking pickle juice or eating relish packets... but haven't tried those, yet. |

I make a couple of meals for them each week (I'm learning lots about gluten-free). Your friend is right, make the most of each day! It gets complicated when it's post within a post within a post (like this) but if it's a single post, just erase the parts you don't want/need to quote. Agreed on the awful disease ... and thanks Salty et al ... nothing more inspiring than that when I'm down. Want to focus on what I CAN do (myself and for others) and all the glorious blessings I have, not on my illness. P.S. I'm ridiculously tickled to be one of your heroes, but you clearly do not read my blog enough. HAHAHA ... wait ... I like being a hero ... so don't. |
