Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Muskrat37 - 2013-02-21 4:09 PM I've done criminal checks in Colorado (where I lived for 12 years) and Washington (where I live now)... Nothing there. I did a search on the National Registry for Sex Offenders..... Nothing there. I lived in Oregon, but their public records are not available online... have to fill out forms and it takes 7-10 days to get them. Really hoping that someone can do a National Search for me (since I'm sure that's what the Police Department I am applying with does) I need to know if someone with the same name did some sh*t that is mixed in with my record. I can't think of anything else it could be. I'm pretty sure I've sprouted a couple more gray hairs in the last couple of hours. Don't think there is anything else I can do now... going to go for a run, then I'm going to open a bottle of Chianti I've been wanting to try. Update - I figured out how to do an Oregon Search...Still says it will take one day. I will be emailed the results. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Muskrat37 - 2013-02-21 6:16 PM In Florida, you can get your criminal history from either the Sheriff's department or the Florida dept of law enforcement . The Sheriff's office way requires a trip to the office, but you will get the results handed to you. The FDLE way can be done on- line. I don't know what the Oregon equivelant to FDLE is, but I'm sure you have a Sheriff's dept ( don't you?), so you could check with them. Also, I know most law enforcement agencies also run credit checks on prospective employees and won't hire someone with poor credit. So, you may want to check your credit report.Good luck.Muskrat37 - 2013-02-21 4:09 PM I've done criminal checks in Colorado (where I lived for 12 years) and Washington (where I live now)... While waiting for the results, I would get my credit report. I would also think about contacting that same HR woman and see if she will tell you what the issue is. I'd tell her you know of no issues, so if something is showing up you'd like to know about it, so you can correct it. Update - I figured out how to do an Oregon Search...Still says it will take one day. I will be emailed the results. My credit is not great, but it's not horrible. Was just approved for a $24,000 auto loan with a decent percentage rate. I purchased a car 2 weeks ago (only spent $17K of the loan). My house in Colorado still shows on my credit report as me being liable for the loan, even though the house is no longer in my name. That was the only issue in my credit report. My FICO score is in the low 600's. I'm rebuilding post bankruptcy (discharged over 2 years ago) / divorce. Maybe it's the bankruptcy. She made it sound like it was criminal, but she said "I don't know what it's for" a couple of times. Sounded like she slipped and told me something she wasn't supposed to. The only thing I can think of is I owe the IRS some taxes from when I owned a business in 2004. I have never not filed my taxes, and that has been dealt with. I can't imagine that would be it...but who knows. All I know is that in the application process they listed the things that would automatically disqualify you, and I had no issues with any of them. I hate that any prospective employer could use credit as a basis for not hiring. What does that have to do with my ability to show up on time and perform a job? I also hate that auto insurance companies can use credit as a factor in determining risk. I have no tickets or accidents in over 10 years and yet because my credit is not perfect, they can charge me more than someone that has better credit. Ridiculous. I feel your pain - my DH is a firefighter and the process for getting a job in those departments is very stressful too. If I were you, I'd go straight to the HR lady (or someone above her?) and ask what the holdup is. Are you in a location where you could physically go in there to speak with someone face to face? Hopefully, this is just a silly hold up and not some run around. I'm thinking good thoughs for you. I completely understand why you're so amped, but try to stay calm until you know what's going on, sometimes, the process behind this is just so slooow that you begin thinking the worst. Good luck - keep us updated. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Muskrat37 - 2013-02-21 7:56 PM I know it's crazy. I think the thought process is in law enforcement people are in a position to really affect people's lives - for the good or bad, and if you have financial issues you may be open to payoffs to look the other way or otherwise do things you shouldn't for a little extra cash.I'm not saying this is what the issue is or that law enforcement agencies in your state are like Florida ones, so don't freak out with this info. Again, speaking to HR could clear this up .amd723 - 2013-02-21 4:32 PM Muskrat37 - 2013-02-21 6:16 PM In Florida, you can get your criminal history from either the Sheriff's department or the Florida dept of law enforcement . Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My bike fitting was pretty interesting. I spent a lot of time on the mechanical/adjustable bike. I would spin for a while, and then he (Bob) made adjustments. Bob would make a little change, have me peddle, look at my posture, and read the data from his attached power meter. He made interesting comments about my posture, tagging me as a runner. He said my legs and lower back were pretty tight. He ended up putting a spacer under my left cleat, which makes sense, because that's the foot that has the spacer on my orthotics as well. I must say, it was awful fun to have someone to talk tri with for a while. That doesn't happen normally. So after I spun for a while at the settings he wanted, I got off the machine, and he started making the changes to my bike. After that finished, he asked me to take it for a spin outside the shop. Sure, but there's no lighting outside, it's 27*, and I'm in bike shorts and a T. So I rode it around the parking lot a few times. He asked me how it felt, and I responded, "Cold!" Anyhow, I was afraid I was going to hear that my frame was to small. It's not. I'll prob need to get a new seat in a bit. I'm looking forward to testing out the fit, bars, and the cadence computer. I know these three things will make a HUGE difference. It also turns out he coaches the guy who got arrested in Abu Dhabi, and a few other pros. Interesting... |

She makes me work way too hard! My hamstrings are so sore. Think I'm going to back off from running for a few weeks. I biked on the stationary bike today during PT and didn't aggravate my hip at all. So maybe biking and yoga for awhile? I'd swim, but that would require paying for a pool and I don't want to do that quite yet. Well, good that she's giving you some stuff to work on. I have found my daily core exercises to be invaluable. Too bad my abs are killing me! Do people ice them? I feel like that would be weird. |

Anyhow, I was afraid I was going to hear that my frame was to small. It's not. I'll prob need to get a new seat in a bit. I'm looking forward to testing out the fit, bars, and the cadence computer. I know these three things will make a HUGE difference. It also turns out he coaches the guy who got arrested in Abu Dhabi, and a few other pros. Interesting... File that one away for the future, it's great to find a good coach. Very true. It would be awful fun to go all out and be coached sometime while I'm still single and have the time. I'd love to explore my potential. |

I had PT this morning. My therapist found a muscle knot on the top of my illiac crest. We're working on helping my core get stronger and my back, which seems to also be helping my hip. Good news that the issue has been identified and is being worked on! Bad news that the fix also causes pain, but a different kind of pain, right? Good luck! Definitely a different kind of pain. I'll take muscle soreness over sharp pain any day. Ouch to ab pain - you get to realise how often you use you abs - every sneeze cough and laugh is a killer! No I've never iced them. Yeah, it's miserable. When I had my gallbladder removed, I had to keep a pillow on my stomach to laugh or sneeze because it hurt so much!
ETA: ab pain can be miserable. Mine is currently not. Oh me too no gall bladder! Did you have it via keyhole surgery - I did...the worst pain I ever had in my shoulders which apparently was the air they blow into your stomach and it's trying to get out my shoulders. Agony - had hot water bottle on each shoulder. No gall bladder - life's heavenly. Wonder why I had one to begin with! Any side effects? Me I can't tolerate very well, shrimp or avocado...their fat obviously isn't processed well by me. Just makes me dizzy and light headed. Weird. |

I did have a HR monitor but it used to freak me out, I'd think I was going too hard etc. Now I judge how I'm feeling. For my next IM (I know why am i going there) I'm gonna approach completely differently - and that will include a HR monitor. |

My shoulders hurt pretty bad! It went away quickly. I have some side effects. Lately, I've been having a bit of post-cholecystectomy syndrome like pain in the same area as where the gallbladder pain was. Some of that could be diet though. hasn't been great this week. I have a hard time with really greasy and spicy food. Body just can't handle it anymore. I need to find a bathroom fairly quickly if I decide to risk that. |

Yeah I've been lucky none of those side effects. I worked with a guy who actually had gall stones even with no gall bladder...turns out she was just genetically that way. Not good, I don't wanna go through that again. Actually my gall bladder was damaged - by Artemis when she used to kick while I was pregnant...bruised an already tender gall bladder - little sh*t! |

Poor thing! I had my gall bladder taken out by the time I got pregnant, but my daughter would kick RIGHT ON THE SCAR TISSUE from my gall bladder or appendectomy. I think I have an adhesion or two there because it got super irritated when she kicked. And it was always that spot or the same spot on my ribs. I swear she bruised my ribs from the inside. Kids... |
