I have missed you guys!  Last week was taken up with prepping for the move and this past weekend was all about getting the job done. We are now in the house but still having a little bit of work being done. Hopefully that will be complete on Wednesday.  I have to say, I was more tired this weekend then after any race I can remember. I still am pretty beat and have a 13  hour training week staring me in the face.

I will do my best to play catch up.

Keri, the arm coolers were from Zoot. It is what they had at the expo.  http://zootsports.com/spring2010/product/arm-coolers

kenj - 2011-08-14 12:51 PM Happy with my races this weekend considering no taper and no real fucus on this.

24:04 for yesterdays 5K, considering I ran the 6 miles to the race to get my full run training in, I am happy with that.  Todays sprint was 1:21:18 with a good swim, a very good bike for me (first bike over 20 mph avg,) and my 5K time was faster than yesterdays. 7/26 in AG and 43/192 overall.

I'll do up a race report later today or tomorrow.

Everyon else having a good weekend?

Great job Ken!!! I took Saturday and Sunday off this week I was in a recovery week but that is over, I ended up going to the PGA Championship so I logged pleanty of miles walking(lol) I have a sprint coming up this weekend but I'm going to use it for speed work this week because I start back my build phase for my 70.3 in September..

That had to be fun to watch with the 2 relatively unknown golfers battling for the Championship. Watching it on TV was good!

Glad the move went fairly well Kathleen, I know moving is more physically challenging than most tri activities!

Hi All!! Back from the dead (hehe).  Getting settled in to our new abode in Anchorage. Have found a cool gym and kids start school next week.  HOPEFULLY I will start to get back into some sort of groove. Lots of trail running opportunites here (just have to watch out for moose and bears). Have missed the forum tons and hope to be a bit more present now.

I hope everyones training is going well - can't wait to catch up on all the race reports!

Thanks guys!  I'm feeling pretty good about the race and am really excited.

Tomorrow Team Fight, the group that I'm supporting and training with, is hosting a special luncheon for all of the Iron Girls.  My husband and two kids will be with me.

Then, there's a whole day of pre-racking, packet-pick up, course race, lots of hoopla.

Saturday morning, I hit the road at 4:30 am for the shuttle to the park.  I'm told this event is the largest women's tri in North America.  There are 2400 racers registered.  Whaaat?  Who knew?  This event is literally in my back yard!

Thanks for all of the cameraderie and well wishes.  I'll post a race report, (if I can figure out how), afterwards.  Tongue out

Best of luck Vivian on your first tri! That is very exciting! I always hear good things about the Iron Girl events.

Good luck Tim! Should be a good tune up for Augusta.

I am shooting for an Oly PR on Sunday. Hammering the bike should be no problem, but I sometimes have trouble maintaining focus and pushing myself throughout the whole run, so if anyone wants to send a little "suck it up, buttercup" my way on Sunday, it will be appreciated

Have a great weekend everybody!

Kathleen and I had fun today....my post from training log....Kathleen what's your take on it.. LOL!

Interesting ride with Kathleen today. Headed out to do a 4 1/2 hour ride for her IM training. The first 10 miles beautiful smooth road nice chatting very quite. Then we turned and hit a gradual uphill and the wind and the next 10 miles were pretty slow for me. Poor Kathleen was kind enough to wait for me. The next 10 miles were more rollers and though I my legs were tired it was nice to have the downhills to recover. As we were climbing into the reservoir Kathleen stopped to wait for me. We made a call to see if a friend who had raced there that morning was still around. We took off and almost immediately I said "I have a flat" We stop and Kathleen says "me too" so we walk back to the area we just left (a turn off) to get off the street and proceed to each change our flat rear tires. That doesn't go to bad, between the two of us we get it taken care and as we are almost ready to leave Kathleen looks at my bike and says..."your front if flat." CRAP! So I take out my last tube and change the front. At that point we just headed up to the race track for water (which I was totally out of and it was about 90 deg)and a bathroom. Good that the facilities were so close. I've no idea how long that whole episode took us but then we got back on and finished up hoping and praying that there would be no more flats as we were out of tubes and C02 cartridges.

What did I learn?

Used a heart rate monitor tonight for the first time on a run.

I just did my usual pace for a 4 km run and it hovered around 151 for the whole time, aside from a couple of short spikes to 157 (small hills).

Using the old fashioned 220-age (44) my max should be in the 176 ballpark.

Was I going about right for LSD?

Can anyone point me at good references for heart rate training?

I beleive that would put you in zone 2, which is where most runs should be.  Maybe even a little lower.  If you use the search function here on BT there is a wealth of information from old forum posts.  I will see if I can find some of them and link them for you later today.  Right now I need to get on the bike!
