ceilidh - 2012-06-27 2:47 PM I got my first swim in almost a month. I am slow, but I got the full hour in. I was wishing for Melindy or Kim to give me a pull rope!

Olympic swim trials are this week. You could have channeled your inner Michael Phelps.

Seems the only time I channel Phelps is when I am eating!

Today is the start of the heat wave. It is was 58 degrees out whe I woke up at 6 am. It is already 72! I would expect that is the last 50 degree, or even 60 degree night weather we are going to have for a few months. I am holding out on closing the house up and turning the air on for as long as possible.

Going to be indoor or water workouts for me.... since I can't seem to get my butt up in the am!

They're calling for 5ish days of 90+ temps here. Air conditioner was turned on this morning while it was still cool. It is supposed to be 96 on Saturday and Keri has a softball game scheduled for 2:00. I'm taking water and gatorade for her, and thinking about taking some frozen fruit to share with the team during the game.

Do that! You KNOW that most other parents will not prepare and it is really really easy for kids to loose too much salt when they get over heated. Wetting bandanas and either freezing them or keeping them on ice in the cooler is good, too. STAY COOL!

I didn't even think about bandanas, we have them all over the house too. Thanks Robin.

There is a girl on the team that lives with her grandparents. The entire family has issues. She comes to games or practices with a Mountain Dew instead of water or juice. She came to a game one time carrying a bag of chips, she said that was her dinner, I believe her. She is very skinny, and her grandparents, and her mother are very large. I see her family at games bringing or buying food for themselves, but I rarely see this girl eat. She seems pretty happy and energetic, but sometimes I wonder if she eats.

Here are some things that annoy me:

Don't tell me you'll call me right back when you have no intention of calling. My sister frequently tells me this and then 4 days later I still haven't heard from her. Grrrr

Also, please don't complain that you are only given 5 days notice for a picnic, say it takes you at least a week to plan the 3 hour drive for your family to PA, blah blah blah, and then when I ask you 4 times what the plan is for me to come down there for the weekend you never respond. Why is it you need more than a week to plan but I'm supposed to just run down there at the drop of a hat. Grrrr

Maybe we need to have some sort of realignment. We'll team up, and they can have each other.

Good morning Ghoulies!

Witnessed a spectacular lightning display on my way to work this morning. Lots of lightning, thunder, and wind. I did hit one spot where it was raining pretty hard, but for the most part it was dry. We really need the rain.

Morning Ghoulies.

It is HEEEERRRRRREEEEE!!

Went to bed last night and it was 68 degrees. Woke up this am and it is 89 already!! and windy, the place is like a tinderbox. I was going to run but that is too hot for my pansy self. We could have used that rain, Ann. Glad you got to enjoy, rather than be scared, by the storm.

Send the rain here.... or Colorado!

89 DAMN! It was 76 and humid at my house at 4 am, and I thought that was hot. I'd send the rain if I could, but it was moving east. Not going to hit you, or Colorado.

I am off to put hoses in the garden then go to Chimney Rock for ceremonies celebrating their new improvements. It is gonna be HOT up there. I think a walk to the water fall may be in order. Stay cool and

I was just reading about the park on the internet. I've decided I can't wait 2 1/2 more weeks before we come down. I'm just going to go home, grab the kiddos, and head south. K?

Hello Ghoulies.  I am alive, just crazy busy at work with people being out, etc.  Anyway, I will try to catch up with everyone next week when I am taking time off of work, or maybe later today when sitting on the phones if they are quiet.

Today is my son's 28th birthday.  We are having a cookout tonight.  It is going to be over 100 degrees today.  I think we will have a lot of people inside the house, inside the airconditioning.  Luckily we got the basement all cleaned up and the pool table is ready to be played.

Ann - are you going to be in North Carolina in a couple of weeks?  visiting Robin?  We will be passing through to and from Virginia and if you are there, we will definately have to take a detour to Lake Lure if it means I get to see both you and Robin.

So... I think it is time for another Ghoulie challenge. Some of us need some motivation and we have Melissa signed up for IM France.

Any ideas?

I agree, but I don't have any ideas right now. Maybe I'll think better after my nap.

I always think better after my nap!

I snuck a bike in during a phone meeting. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

No one questioned the heavy breathing?

Ghoulies, I have an announcement to make.

I have the secret to combating childhood, and adulthood obesity... pay attention to your kids, and spend time with them. That's it. It's that simple.

Yesterday it was my idea to go to the lake. The kids were a little hesitant at first, but they went, and they did have a good time, we would have been there longer if they had a say in it. It is a beautiful day in PA. A few clouds, a nice breeze, and it's only 78. After I was done working, I WFH today, I asked the kids if they wanted to go to the park and they said yes. For an hour and a half we played softball. My daughter batted, she worked on pitching, we were all moving the whole time. We took a break and the three of us did some running/football drills to help Caleb get ready for football. For 20 minutes we all WORKED HARD. My legs were burning, Caleb said his were too. Then they wanted to go back and hit some more softballs, so we did. We spent over 2 hours at the park because THEY wanted to play.

So get off the couch, get your kids off of the computers and video games, and go play!

This has been a public service  announcement.

You are so right

We are driving to Colorado for a family reunion.  I love going there; I wish we could move there.  But it is a small town in the middle of nowhere with little employment.  It is in the northeast corner, so it is high plains desert.

We are taking both dogs with us (at the family's urging).  Hope all the dog "cousins" get along!

We leave Friday for two weeks!

Have a wonderful trip.  I think we would all love to live places that there is not much employment.  It's because there are so few people that make it nice, but it sure does hinder the paycheck capability.  Northern Colorado is beautiful, at least it was 25 years ago when i drove through.
