Go Racing Manatees!

September 29-30
TJ - Hot Chocolate 15k on Sunday
Kristen KIRSTEN- Surrey International World Music Marathon on Sunday

You will do us proud!

In my defense, we do have one of each and I put the race under the wrong person.  Please excuse me.

Yep, I figured that's what it was.  And as I said, I should probably just STFD Wink

OK Pod. I have my OLY on Sunday and the weather forecast shows a high of 71 and a low of 41. My wave is set to go at 8:10 so I'm thinking the air temp will be in the low 50's. I've not done a race with air temps that low.  I'm thinking my tri shorts/sleeveless top with arm warmers for the bike. I guess I'd have to take time in T1 to dry my arms enough to get the warmers on. What thinks the pod?

ETA: Also, there is a bottle hand-up about half way in to the bike.  I've never practiced a bottle hand-off and am not sure I need one for an OLY. Thoughts?

You can put the arm warmers on your aerobars and pull them on one at a time when the arms are dry. Try this on your trainer first.

What's the course like? You in any danger of bouncing a bottle?

It's mostly country roads. Hopefully they won't be too rough. The majority of my water is in my aero bottle so no fear of that bouncing. My caloric-mix is in a bottle on the down tube. It doesn't normally eject on rough patches.

Hey, I have a chilly Oly Sunday, too!  High of 62, low of 46 and 20% chance of rain right now.  Minor freak out, but hoping it will improve.

But to answer your question: my thought was I will put on arm warmers in T1, having them rolled up like a condom (a very large and ineffective condom, seeing how there is a hole in both ends, ha!) to go on faster and easier.  I will probably do a quickie wipe of the arms with a little towel, then either put them on to just my wrists and deal with pulling them up later on the bike, or maybe just take the few extra moments to pull them up right away.  I've learned that I am fine biking with my right hand off the bike (to reach for water, etc) but not as good (because not as practiced) taking the left hand off.  I don't want to cause me or anyone else to crash.

To answer the bottle question:  if you have room on your bike to carry 2 bottles, I would doubt you will need any more than that and wouldn't need to do a hand-off.  It won't be blazing hot, so I would think you will get by just fine with 2.  If you can only carry one, well, then it depends on how much you typically drink.  If you think you will need to do a hand-off, practice it in the yard with a SO or friend.  Remember not to take your favorite bottle for the race as you probably won't ever see it again.

Sounds like a good set up to me. On an Oly a few fewer calories really isn't going to kill you (even if you bounce your bottle) and you can always grab something sugary from the aid station if need be, or even on the run.

Thanks for the great points.  I do the roll-up thing with my socks so it makes sense to do it with arm warmers too.

My ride yesterday was 25 miles and I didn't even finish the water in my aero bottle (I do when it is hotter) so I think I'll be ok with my two bottles.

Thanks to all the delightful school stress, I have been laid low by a nasty head cold since Friday. ICK. On the brights side I just sneezed--I rarely sneeze DURING a cold, so in my eyes, I am recovering! Or I am just going crazy from the large amounts of cold meds I have been taking.....

Baby powder - I put it in my socks and they go on very easily even after salt water swim - also very easy to brush off sand if you use baby powder....

I gotta thank all you Manatees who inspire me so thoughtfully - it's a nice touch and much appreciated - feels like a little family on here!

Today is a good day everyone - SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile just woke up like that!  Macca power!  I was going to laze in bed but guilt got the better of me and I jumped on the drainer for a sweaty 45mins.  I thought I'd do it tonight but I know me, it wouldn't happen.

It's 11am here in Melbourne - the sun is shining it's in the 60s there's no wind, I'm going for a nice run in a moment.

Fotis (DH) and Artemis (DD) come home today from Sydney been gone 5 days, been nice in some respects having all that freedom from interruptions that only a seven year old knows how!  BUT of course I missed them!

I feel truly blessed to be me today, and that's a rare feeling.Cool

Have y'all hear about this?  http://www.runday.com/about.php  I was looking for a run/race to do when I am 'along for the ride' at my SO's agility trial and stumbled across it.  I think I'll sign up Laughing.  The only race where I get to choose the distance and podium!
