11/12 in the 27/28 challenge. Pushups, I am a 1/2 week behind. Back at it tonight. Somebody give me the gears if I don't get them in tonite!

A month and half into your training. How is everone feeling? I know this is a tough time as the honeymoon stage is over. What seemed like a great idea isn't seeming like it now. You start to justify why you don't have time to train.  Races still quite aways off and training starting to take its toll. If you can make it through the next 2-3 weeks you will be out of the weeds and ready for some great spring training! Justify why you don't have time NOT to train.

8/12 in the 27/28 challenge.  Pushups I am on day 1 of Week 2.  I am feeling great, had a couple of setbacks and conflicts with training over the last couple of weeks, but I am back at it!  Did my 5k tonight (actually 2.98 miles according to Runkeeper) and did it in a 12:02 pace which I know isn't blazing, but it is a heck of a lot better than the 14:00 I was doing in December!

Just got the wife and I signed up for a new gym in town so we can go as a family, they have classes nightly which we are going to have to take advantage of.  The more I do and look back at how far I come, the more motivated I get!  This group is great with all of the motivation and inspirational stories from each of you!  I know this group is a big reason I have been able to stick with it a huge Thank You to all of you!

Oh and for my mid morning snack I usually take almonds, pistachios, or soy nuts (some kind of nuts) and an apple orange or pear.  Sometimes yogurt.

great post! getting a little scared with HIM in early April.

on trainer now. 26 miles in to a 39 miler.

raining outside. trainer work is hard.

Keeping up with the forum while getting a workout in...  Way to knock out two birds with one stone!

As for the HIM - you are doing a great job of getting ready for it!  While you are coming off an injury - you've got plenty of time to put the finishing touches into your training.  6 weeks to go and then you get to taper.  As someone said to me prior to my HIM (and you have put in months more training than I did) - you could complete it today. And you could!

Remember that while you are eating your greek yogurtLaughing

Thanks for the positive thoughts!

My problem is that 56 miles does not seem that far, but doing 39 on the trainer today was not fun. I think it is harder on the trainer. I hope.

56 on the road is a cake walk compared to 39 on the trainer...nice job!

Hey guys,

Just checking in here quickly, as you know my Mom is in town visiting and so we have been hanging out and just enjoying lots of family time. I hope everyone is doing well on their workouts, I am loving the Push up challenge!! Thor thanks again you Masochist! but honestly, really excited to see the end results of it and then keep PU's as a part of my daily routine.

Still battling the weight loss here but I got a live blood analysis today, EXPENSIVE! ( Gonna try to put it in on my health insurance...they sometimes squawk at the Naturopathic stuff though). I have always had some digestive issues and it is time to get to the bottom of it! which will hopefully help with the weight loss as well.

Right O folks.....lets keep the good times rolling!

Hope you get your issues sorted it out. One less thing to worry about!

It is an amazing feeling to 100 pushups in a row. You will be amazed how much it ramps up. Sometimes I think it is more mental once you have the pushup base going!

Question - What is your favorite mid-day snack and when do you eat it?

Greek yogurt.  That stuff is great - high protein for the calories, and tasty too.

In other news, February continues to drag along.  House-shopping is slogging along, since nothing new will come on the market until April to start the spring/summer season, and it's too dreary/rainy/cruddy to ride or run outside.  It's either too cold or too wet to ride or run outdoors.

Here's to April, when things get better.  Until then, just keep on swimming, peddling, and stepping.

Great positivity Guys.  Those excuses seem to pile up.  Your positivity is going to push me to make sure I get in the gym tonight no matter what  excuses pop into my head.

Keep on pushing!

Burd - 2013-02-12 11:40 AM Hit 218 today!  When I started keeping track again was right around the middle of December which was at 235.

Great job on the weight loss. The more you lose the easier the running and bike will be!

Not sure what the death march is but from my experience, do one or the other. I did a HM last February and I didn't put on a running shoe for the next week after...

The Bataan death march is a marathon through the NM desert at white sands missile range. it is meant to commemorate the march of american soldiers in the philippines after they lost the battle of bataan and were marched over 60 miles to a POW camp. Many of the soldiers captured were NM national guard troops.

That is a great event.

Honestly, based on your training log, I would not do the HM. Save your money.

The march itself will be a huge challenge, looking at the event site! Good luck and great job for doing that!

Great comments and great training all around out there.Bad run this morning with more Pain. I think I've actually got an IT band syndrome. I'm going work on stretching and foam rolling. I did the P90X stretch video today. Basically it's like yoga light. And I'm going to live on the foam roller. I'm actually on it now while I'm transcribing this with Siri.Any other IT band advice out there?

Thanks for sending that! I have very weak glutes and that is one reason I hit p90x legs/back last week. What a pain in the butt for 2-3 days. My online coach here wants me to go a little easier than p90x so I may just do some of the exercises.

I have been lucky up to this point with very minimal injuries. Today was not fun as I could not run continuously after 2 miles. It seems the IT band is causing the inability of some of my lower leg muscles to fire. It is a weak sensation where I just get muscle weakness bring my foot back up of the ground. Then the muscles come right back after a brief walk.

Today was some very nice weather for February in Chicago - a sunny and clear 45 degrees.  My boss, a former marathoner, was nice enough to let me out at 3:45pm today, so I could get a nice 10k run outdoors.  So much better than the dreadmill.

Add to that my 1,500 yards in the pool this morning, and it's been a pretty solid day, and probably the first day this month I have been satisfied with my workouts.  And today's swim was lightning fast for me, 2:41/100yd, which is about 20sec faster per hundred than typical.

Went for the bike ride this afternoon and my son decided he would go.  Was supposed to be a 10 mile ride, but at 6.5 miles he got a flat.  We stopped got it aired up again and started going, then at 6.9 miles, his pedal breaks off!!!  That poor kid has the worst luck with bicycles.  We finished the 10 miles though pushing the bikes, decided it would be unmanly to call Mom for a ride home ha ha ha!  Tongue out

Thanks to you and Thor for the input.  I think I knew the answer before I asked,Embarassed but kept saying to myself, well maybe if you just . . . .  You know how it goes.  Anyway, I found out that the deadline for the cheap registration passed for the HM and there is no way I can pay for both so I will definitely stick with the Bataan.  At least I will get to help out with the Marathon, it is being held at one of my parks which is also part of the reason I wanted to participate.  It is called the Dust Bowl Marathon series and is 5 races in 5 states in 5 days!  Awesome that people can do that!  Maybe next year I can convince them to do 5 races in 5 days in 5 different parks of mine!  Thanks again for the feedback!

Sucessful morning but not exactly to plan.  Took a little more time to get out of the house due to some snow we had overnight, but I ran two miles but couldnt fit in the swim before work.  Did some overdue stretching and worked on some crunches.  Felt productive, especially the run.

I have reviewed the swim plans and drills, but at this point I'm still building base, so I don't worry too much about it.  I usually spend about 500 warming up, mixing back, breast, and freestyle, then do a 1x500 set while focusing on form, and then do some sprints, like 3x250 or something.  There's not a lot of planning at this point.  My goal is usually to do 2,000 yards, but I usually get time-crunched.
