carrie639 - 2011-02-27 9:20 PM Yes, great race Kelly . . . I could only hope to one day run 1 mile at that pace . . .

Last April, I ran a half in 2:09.  Its totally do-able.

1:15 on the trainer this morning and then some core work tonight

The realitor is visiting our house in exactly 1 week, so it's crunch time.  I'm going to have lots of late nights this week.

Rizer - Nice bike! There is a HUGE difference between a MTB and a roadie - you will be pleased!!

Kelly - Congrats on the HM! A pretty impressive time, especially with two pit stops thrown in!

I spent the better part of Sunday morning starting the set up of my new (to me) CompuTrainer... I got through the bulk of the hardware setup and came to the realization that, even tough the CT seems like a great tool, I don't think it's for me. There is just too much set up to do to make it practical for my needs. So, I tore it all down and set up my old trainer...

I have met my S-B-R goals for the month... But, I'll probably jump on the trainer tonight just to round out the month on a good note.
I *almost* got a workout in everyday in Feb (missed Feb 1)!!

Tomorrow I am starting a LT training class - each Tuesday and Thursday evening in a local park for the month of March. 30 minutes of high intensity exercises (sprints, TRX, kettle bells, heavy ropes, etc) designed to increase your LT. I'm both excited and scared... we'll see how it goes!

Trying to motivate for another hour run. I barely made it through 30 minutes at the pool today as I am still fighting what ever hit me Friday night. But I beat every training number this month compared to last month with fewer days! A run today be icing on the cake so I will really try to get out and at least get a little bit in.

Kelly,

Any thoughts on S/B/R training ratios (either by time or distance)?

For February I set up three distance-based goals in Garmin Connect and, in an effort to force myself to be more flexible, I told myself that when I worked out I would only have the option of doing either of the two disciplines that I was furthest away from meeting my goals. This worked really well - as all my goals progressed relatively equally (unlike January where, although I had the same goals, the last week was spent doing a lot of biking). I wondering now if my S/B/R goal distances are in line with what I should be doing in order to be a well-rounded triathlete... is there any general guidance about how much one should be training for each sport? Perhaps base it on the S/B/R ratios of the races??

After my ride this morning, I realized i as at almost 195 miles for February.  I didn't want to alter my plan, but wished I would have reached 200.  Not that it really matters.  I will definitely surpass that for March.

Kelly, when does our mentoring end with you?  I think through March?  If you do it again in the spring, I'd love to be part of that group again.

boy did my lunch run hurt today, HR never really got very high but RPE was through the roof.  sort of made me think about RPE as a training tool.  Yesterday I did a hilly 7 miler outside at about a 9:00 pace and it felt great (DK what my HR was as my garmin was out of juice) today I did a 30 minute treadmill session, also around a 9:00 pace and it felt like death.

Here's my Feb.:

February's totals:
Bike:21h 21m 46s  - 397.5 Mi
Run:4h 32m 17s  - 25.08 Mi
Swim:6h 22m 38s  - 18700 Yd
Strength:30m
Walking:1h 54m

I'm really happy with the bike total for the month.  I've only had my bike for 6 weeks.  Obviously my run total was low because of my injuries.  Want to hit 400 on the bike next month, 20,000 in the pool, and 50 on the run.

Nice job with the numbers everyone.  I think most people were higher for February than January despite February being a shorter month.

With regard to the ratio between bike and run.  If training for a triathlon (as compared to focusing on running) the "optimal" ratio of bike : run MILES (not time) is about 4:1 or 5:1 (mostly because biking has synergistic impacts on the run and is non-impact so there is not the risk of injury whereas the run doesn't really have any impact on the bike and there is a fairly high injury risk).  For me HOURS wise this works out to biking a little more than twice as many hours as I run.

Run:16h 48m 48s  - 109.74 Mi
Swim:2h 15m  - 5600 Yd
Zumba:50m

Need more swimming and to start biking.

I don't know why, but for the last 3 or 4 days I have just been @$$-dragging exhausted.  I slept in this morning, and will swim tonight and then get back into my plan tomorrow.

Swim:3h 26m 10s  - 10200 M

So disappointing.  More time spent in a therapists office than on the road or in a pool.

Good news though is that after my ride Sunday I haven't felt even a twinge from the knee.  Today was a push day for lifting in the gym and an off day for my legs.  Gonna run tomorrow.  Crossing my fingers.
