The center was about 45 miles north of here. I just thought it was a huge wind gust shaking the house. Though, it takes a lot to shake this house. The dog and the cats are still a little freaked out from it.

Am I overreacting? They are calling for a major storm. I prepared. After talking to my family, and seeing different things on facebook a lot of people said they did nothing to prepare, they think this thing is just going to blow over.

I would rather be over-prepared than under-prepared. I'm ready to take care of myself, and my kiddos, I don't want to have to wait for someone to take care of me.

Ann, it is way better to be prepared for the emergency and not need it, than to ignore all warnings and not be prepared.  Think of all who ignored the warnings about Katrina in New Orleans.  So, you have done everything that you should have done.  If it is all for naught, then everything you bought will all be put to good use in its time.

Stay safe.

On a different note, the most recent storm tracking has the eye of Sandy going right about over my house on Tuesday. I like to be prepared. I stopped on the way home and picked up 2 new flashlights, batteries, and oil for my oil lamps. I also have 6 gallons of water, and a 24 pack of bottled water.

We can heat the house, and cook with the wood stove, we will have light, is there anything I'm missing?

Food? Pet food?

Get your laundry done (blankets, etc). Have a battery powered radio, power up the cell phones. Gather some board games for the fam to play, books to read, etc. Other than that make sur everything is bolted down so it doesn't blow away or float away. (but then again, what do I know? We don't get hurricanes here! LOL).

Amy, you may not get hurricanes, but you get monster snow storms! So i would bet you know a thing or two about getting ready for storms.

We are only experiencing some wind from the storm, but compared to what Robin and Ann will deal with, the wind here is nothing.  I would not mind some rain, but don't want any flooding.

On a lighter note, I had a great weekend.  We went Ziplining on Sunday and the course finished with a 1/2 mile long zipline.  It was awesome.  They did not have anyone taking pictures that day, so no pictures of us.  Oh well.  I even went upside down several times.  Woot!

And on an even better note, I ran 3.9 miles on Friday.  And my hip feels no worse than it does on days that I don't run.  So that is a plus in my opinion.

Good morning Ghoulies.

Quick post - in my phone and I want to save the battery.
Everyone here is warm, safe, and dry. We have been without power though for almost 15 hours. The power company knows what's wrong, and where, they just can't get in to fix it because of flooding. They said maybe later today they can have it restored.
We slept in the basement in air mattresses last night. The inlaws down the road have power so Keri went down there this morning with grandma. Donnie had the generator running here awhile now he's going down the road. The boy and I are holding down the fort here.

Ok not so much a quick post but later Ghoulies !

Morning ghoulies.

Our power went out last evening and is supposedly on schedule for sometime today. We are so low on the repair totem pole that I doubt that. However, we prepared pretty well when we re-did the house. We can cook, have hot water and have gas log heat. I twas pretty funny last night with all three cats vying for body heat!

Hang tough, Ann. It is like camping!

Thanks Dee. We are pretty used to no power. We have heat (in spots), water, we can cook and I have wine. Life is good! I just hope we don't lose much food in the freezer. I'll have to do some canning if that is the case!

That is good news.... I guess. As long as it doesn't get worse, you are ahead of the game.

If I had gone upside down on a zip line they would have had my corpse to deal with at the end!

Out of curiosity, how are you online, Robin?  Battery power for computer?  What about internet connection?  I think our internet connection would not work if we lost power.  The modem/router needs pwer.

Well hello there.

The power is back on at our house, it went off at the inlaws at 11:45. Grandma and Keri had just finished lunch, good thing they decided to eat early. Donnie was in town getting gas for the chain saw and called to tell us the pizza place was open so Caleb and I went there for lunch and to get out of the house for a little bit. They were running off of generators.

No real damage here other than my sister in law last a large tree across the road down at her place. The power company was there to do what they needed to do, now my husband and his brothers are there sawing the rest of the tree up and getting it off the road. She lost another tree in her pasture that took out part of her fence. They are going to saw that one up, too.

The rest of the day is just going to be a lazy day. I didn't sleep the best last night.
