What creates oil pressure in an engine? Is this a setup? There is an oil pump... My ME professor had one on his desk. It was cool to play with when I was getting lectured about my poor behaviour and worse grades. Yep it is An oil pump creats oil flow but not oil pressure. Jackarse - just waited for someone to step into the trap didn't you? It's a bit simantics though. A pump does not create pressure, it only creates flow. Pressure is a measurement of the resistance to flow. If you have a pressure guage on the intake line and the discharge line, the discharge will read much higher. But it is the RESISTANCE to the pump's flow that is read on a pressure gauge attached to the discharge line, not pressure itself. Edited by Kido 2012-09-05 3:52 PM
