Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed No you never said that at all, but you seriously notice the difference when you are in OW and can't touch the bottom. I had trouble with my goggles all weekend, so had to adjust a lot. Need to change out or get new ones. I knew there was no flotation, just didn't think about til I had to stop. No biggie |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Originally posted by kaburns1214 Originally posted by carrie639 Texas Scott - Wanted to let you know I got the Blue Seventy swim skin for Muncie. I tried it out on Saturday. 3 things I learned very quickly .... 1. It is pretty fast and comfortable (more than a wetsuit) but not as fast as a wetsuit 2. It is really easy to drop your hips and legs if you are used to swimming with a wetsuit ... found myself correcting a lot 3. When you stop to adjust your goggles, you IMMEDIATELY sink since there is no floatation capabilities!!! Got to figure out how to tread for things like that. Swim skins are completely textile and are designed simply to compress the body and reduce drag from pockets/low necks on tri tops and bottoms. Where a wetsuit will give a swimmer (especially one with poor body position) 10 seconds / 100, a swim skin may give a swimmer 1 second / 100. With regard to adjusting goggles, the best thing to do is to stroke over to your back, adjust and then stroke back onto your stomach, its quicker that a full stop and doesn't impede swimmers behind you the way a full stop does. What is a simple solution I should have thought of during my HIM Alex? I seriously read that and stared at the ceiling for a moment thinking if you had just calmed down and thought about it......... |

Extreme Veteran 863 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I drove 30 minutes to do an OWS with the Tri club this morning and only 1 person showed up. We waited 15minutes and then he left for his pool. I didn't have time to drive to my pool at this point. My workout was an hour drive this morning. Frustrated. |

I've been disciplined with the stretching, icing, and heating of my groin and my hip. It's tight for the first couple minutes and then it really loosens up. I'm hopeful this will no longer be a problem for my IM.
Yay!!! That is awesome news. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Congrats on not hobbling Jen! Hey Larkin I guess there were 24 DNF's for the HIM which is a really high percentage and about half came on the swim. I had no idea there were that many. The Olympic had 9 DNF's and nearly all of those were also the swim. In contrast for about the same number of starters when I did the Stamford Olympic there were zero DNF's and that has a really hard bike. Both PumpkinMan and Patriots had 8-ish DNFs. I will give REV3 credit the last HIM finisher was at 9:30:01. That's a long time to stay open for a half .6 People went over 9 hours. They had a lot of issues with this race but that's pretty cool to stay open for them that long. |

That's crazy. Reminds me of my friends' accounting of IM Cozumel last year when they rounded the last buoy and it was like swimming in an endless pool.
So I've been trying to figure out what Kelly's facial expression after my swim analysis reminded me of. Got it:

That is hilarious Aren't you glad you had her tape you tho? Now you know exactly what you need to address in training. Which balance drills does she have you doing? |

Jen I'm ecstatic to have it on tape. I'm very much a visual learner so seeing my ills is very, very helpful.
I'm going to do whatever Kelly puts in Training Peaks. LOL. That's kind of how I approach my training. See workout, do workout. I think I'll probably be looking at TI drills, etc. She also has this drill where you curl up in a ball under water, rotate forward, float to the top and extend out on your belly and you're supposed to stay at the surface. Yeah, can't do that apparently. Uber frustrating. In due time. I don't race until the end of August so we have time. Honestly with as much energy as it appears I waste in the water in those vids I'm really pleased with my race times in Galveston and IMTX. Edited by uhcoog 2013-06-26 10:02 AM |

Extreme Veteran 668 NW Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I'm back after a two-week work-related absence. In my never-ending quest for knowledge, I managed to skim through most of the posts I missed while away. Nice to meet you, Rudy. I look forward to your journey back to triathlon. Scott, I did not know about your loss. I just finished a trial (see above) where two five year-old girls drowned. The mental and emotional roller coaster I have been on pales in comparison. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am trying to take your advice to heart, though, and come back slowly after being away for a couple of weeks. Glad you're feeling better and running without pain, Jen. Also good to see Kelly's hamstring cooperating again. I missed a lot of great race results. Way to represent!! For my part, I am just trying to stay in the moment and focused on what I am supposed to be doing this week. As soon as I start looking ahead and realize how few weeks are left until November and how far I have to go, it is completely overwhelming. |

Sounds like you are doing the right thing and moving will bring some kind of peace. Larkin, Your race sounds like it got off to an awful start but you pulled it back well - Congratulations! Jen, Congrats on a great race. I know someone mentioned foggy goggles - I was recently introduced to 'Sea Drops' that are meant for scuba divers but I have found them to be amazing. It's so clear, its like I'm not wearing goggles at all, and as yet, I have not had a swim where they fog up. |

Extreme Veteran 828 North Shore, MA. | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed So this past weekend I was lucky enough to be in Lake Placid and I met up with Kelly, Scott and Stacey. I really enjoyed meeting you all! Kelly, I have to give you a HUGE thank you. I seriously can't even begin to tell you how much you helped me this weekend. I rode on the Sunday as you suggested, and also followed your nutrition advice. It was like night and day from Saturday: I couldn't believe the difference. I had my head in a better place, my speed got better as the ride progressed and I felt good running afterwards. I have to say, the gearing advice was also invaluable. I have been riding each day since I got home and consciously putting the gearing into practice. (I had my fastest TT ride ever yesterday) |

At least it was me and not one of the kids. I got bit a few days ago by something and this morning the full bulleyes eye rash came out meaning a tick bite and lyme disease. Lucky it was caught early so I'm on antibiotics. Now I need a link showing that tick bites and lyme disease lead to a decline in physical performance, LOLOLOL. The bullseye itches and burns a lot but otherwise I'm good minus the 90 minutes wasted at the hospital. Feel better! I did this with the kids today http://goape.com/ Talk about a workout. You need a lot of strength and balance in both the uppor and lower body to get over many of these. My legs were pretty shaky so I was working pretty hard. Not the recommended recovery workout but a lot of fun. I actually work at a similar (but much better and bigger place). It's called The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring (in Olney). Recently I have been considering my employment there as my resistance and most of my core training. The only problem with this job is my eternal fatigue, although you guys with kids probably know a lot more about that than me. |

We are headed down to NC tomorrow for the week. My company gave me an unexpected vacation. Unfortunately a very long vacation. Government decided that they didn't want to fund my position anymore. So I am on the job hunt. Sucked because I came off a great high from the weekend and then I was told on Monday that Friday will be my last day. We think it is a blessing in disguise. This job was a tough commute and kept me from the family a lot more. It was difficult on my training schedule as well. Now on to new opportunities and hopefully something better for my family and I.
