But does this not fail to adhere to one man, one vote? Territory does not vote, people do. The popular vote argument can be misleading though because no Republican is ever going to spend a dime or any time in NY, CA, IL, etc. which are the most populous states when running under the electoral vote system. So their popular vote is naturally much much lower than it could be in those populous states. Even the members of the Republican party in those states aren't very motivated to go to the polls when they know it doesn't matter at all. It's basically like saying the person who scores the most points wins the game, but after the election I realized that my candidate had more field goals so she should have won. If the winner was based on number of field goals then the other team would play the game differently from the start. |

Expert 2373 Floriduh | Subject: RE: Election 2016 I'm not going to argue one side or the other, but we have seen two elections where a prez was elected but lost the popular vote. In both instances it was a Republican that benefitted, not sure the right wouldn't pitch a hissy fit if it they were on the losing side of these elections. This was an extremely divisive election and like after a heavyweight fight the country needs to heal. I am encouraged by both Trump's and Obama's comity today, would be great if we could continue this but somehow I don't think that's going to happen. |

Works both ways, don't think HRC made many stops in the Fla panhandle, Nebraska or Idaho. And I assure you that was not because these are low population areas. It really is amazing how this country is so evenly divided. |

Yes, that's a generalization and I know it doesn't cover all of the "give me my trophy" generation.......but geez, this is unprecedented crybaby crap. Here's a history lesson.....one that every generation before yours lived through. When your side loses an election, you move on and keep moving forward. And for those kids calling for a revolution........pay attention here....you just saw one. 60,000,000 people said no to your candidate and her/your ideas. Do what the rest of us have always done. Get up and go to work and take care of your responsibilities. You get another chance in 4 years....that's how it works. If you want some other kind of revolution, as I've heard some of you calling for.....you need to go take a nap. You're delusional right now....get some sleep.

It really is amazing how this country is so evenly divided. It does go both ways, but purely from a population standpoint the very small geography of urban cities has more population than the entire rest of the US. Hillary could win 100% of the Nebraska vote and it will be less than a small suburb in LA. It doesn't really matter of course, but I do enjoy discussing different systems. |

Right?? Hey kids......leave the highways you're blocking, put your signs down, stop starting fires and destroying property, grab your backpacks with your pop tarts and bottled water, and head out to rural America, who just voted your candidate down. Throw a few molotov cocktails and bricks and report back on how that worked out for you. Edited by Left Brain 2016-11-10 10:32 PM |

Let me first state that I am not endorsing any form of violence or destruction of property, that is wrong under any circumstance. And Lord knows I understand the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality. That is a mistake that my generation unfortunately bestowed on our children. With that said, Trump did say some pretty abhorrent things during this election. I don't expect him to come out and apologize, but I do think he needs to prove, with his deeds, that some (much?) of this was election hyperbole and not the position from which he will govern the country. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but actions speak louder than words. |

Completely disagree. These are not protests. You don't protest the results of a democratic process. That's not how we behave in a democracy. You go back and you fight to gain approval for the next election. What these people are doing is borderline revolution. Violence and destruction for sure isn't convincing anyone to see their views. Neither is protesting. There are much more constructive uses of their time. What they are doing proves the Democratic party is in turmoil. More so even than people thought the GOP was. This is happening in mostly blue states. I get it, there's a lot of despair over a hard fought election. However, all these protesters are doing is convincing voters to vote anything but blue, one state at a time. If the liberals were being rational, they should have been the ones to "cool off" for a week before they started any protests. That might of relieved the violence and destruction. I was listening to a commentator this morning and she said that Occupy Wallstreet and the Tea Party essentially came to be around the same time. The OW movement and now the BLM movement does nothing but protest and cause problems. The Tea Party went to work to get like minded people elected all across the country. Fast forward to now and we have a country dominated by conservative politicians. That's how you impact change in a democracy. The protesters today believe they are impacting change and they most certainly are. Unfortunately, they don't realize that they're pushing even more people away from their cause and over to the other side. |
