Is there any point in trying the free trial now? While all I have is a point and shoot? Or should I wait until I give in to the DSLR............want to want to want to...... By all means, start using the trial. That way you can get familiarized with the program while making the DSLR decision. I sometimes use LR for my P&S image processing as I find it so much faster to complete the task. Well....it seems there is a NikonD90 that has chosen ME!! ![]() Just a matter of biting the proverbial bullet. |

Well....it seems there is a NikonD90 that has chosen ME!! ![]() Just a matter of biting the proverbial bullet. Oooo ... yes. Let it choose you! I have a Nikon D60, not quite as many bells and whistles as the D90, but a nice step up from my crappy point and shoot. It seriously popped right off the shelf and into my arms......... Seems like the right choice. Only 200$$ more than the one down from it.........but I do not want to feel like I have "not enough" camera. I would rather grow into it, so to speak. I will say that compared to all my other MANY creative pursuits over the years ( watercolours, quilting, gardening etc .....) the instantaneous nature of a photograph really appeals to me. I am loving it. So I want to immerse myself in it. Heck, its not like I can go for a run anytime soon right? |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LOL, Rico is quick but not quite that fast! So Helen, to keep this in the vein of the Q&A intent of this thread, what do you like about the camera and what to you see as it's strengths and potential drawbacks? Edited by KOM 2010-11-19 7:49 PM |

So Helen, to keep this in the vein of the Q&A intent of this thread, what do you like about the camera and what to you see as it's strengths and potential drawbacks? Oh isn't this photo TAN??? ![]() I decided Nikon rather than Canon.......and then the D 90 seemed like a no brainer. Has everything I will ever need, and the price point is right for me. It really did come down to price. Next model up is a big jump in price. Sadly they are going to replace the D90 with another model , which will be significantly more expensive. So I am gonna get it while I can! Only draw back I can see is that generally speaking a DSLR is just plain BIG. And thus its not likely to be hanging around my back pocket constantly like my little orange Lumix. But I guess both types of photography have their place right? Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes the size does mean it is not something you will have with you all the time. On the other hand having two means one can stay with the bike while the other is still waiting at home. If they are coming out with a new model maybe the current one will be discounted, kinda like bikes?? |

It does indeed look like a Christmas card........ in effect yes, but what i did was called a curves and levels adjustment vs the simple contrast adjustment. The dif between the two is that contrast simple takes total contrast up or down, with levels and to a greater extent curves, you can change single parts of the contrast profile (ie an image has a range from pure white to pure black, and every tonal level in between), with contrast adustment, it simply narrows this range, with a curve or level adjustment, you can tweak single parts of that. then slightly sharpened the photo. that could have been done with just contrast (i didn't touch it much), but more in depth levels would need something other than just a contrast tool. lastly i very very lightly toned it cyan/blue to give it a colder look. the whole process took about 90 sec. |

David , since we discussed PT vs Lightroom previously....is this something that one could accomplish with Lightroom? |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is not really a photo question as much a resizing and posting experiment. These were my feeble attempts at trees, but not really worth posting in the contest. However, I am enjoying the way the contests are making me look at my surroundings! eta: guess it doesn't matter since I can't figure out how to make it post from my album, oh well. Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What are the advantages for a fixed focal length lens? I want something for macro and wide angle closeups. Will this lens work or do I need a straight Macro lens? Nikon 35 F1.8G DX autofocus SLR Wide Angled Lenz. |
![]() ![]() |
Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() at this point in time, the real advantages are wider aperture at a cheaper price, normally a bit faster focusing (although this is quickly becoming a non-issue), they are lighter, most of them offer a closer min focus distance. that specific lens, i have no idea |
