Pardon my cross-post, and...
Pardon my endorphin high here...
But...
WOOOOOOT!
1st race in 20+ years, and a new personal best for a 5K - 28:29 (previous was 31:21 - and this was when I was 21 - I'm 44 now!) . Hilly course on the Univ of Miss Medical Center campus. Temp in mid 40s, cloudy, a little bit of drizzle, gusty NE wind in the 20+ gust range.
Race started at 9:00 AM. Got up at 7:00, ate two PBJs, drank some water, headed on over to UMC. Nicely organized, check-in was at the Student Union. Lots of cute nursing students... and compared to cycling events, plentiful and FIT middle aged women too
I may skip the Natchez Trace Ride on the 22nd and do the Run for Life on this same course again. I had a blast!
Mass start for the runners.. I was somewhere in the middle of the pack. I might've jackrabbited a little bit at the start, took me about the first mile or so to catch my wind. I found out that compared to a lot of people, I climb very well... I seem to maintain the same pace going up hills as on the flats and downhill.
I'm going to be very interested to see, when the race results are posted, how I did in my age group.
P.S. My goal was to beat 30:00. I think I did very well!
AWESOME RACE!!!!
Congrats on getting back into the racing scene!!! Florida Force Rocks!!!
I had a great race today too...first multisport race of the season...yay!!! I'll put a race report in the database once I get the official numbers from the website, but suffice it to say I did much better than I thought.
It was a 5K/10mile/5K duathlon. First run 23:38, T1 about 1 min, bike about 31 minutes by my watch, T2 less than 1 minute, second run about 24:30. Total time 1:20:24. Probably didn't place but I beat my time goal by 10 minutes!
The point of all this? Well, I got 6 out of the last 13 miles in that I need for the Challenge! Go Florida Force!!!
