you're back to being evil, Dee.  Might as well ban the bagpipes too (but I can't tell Lynne that as she would probably not be too happy about my dislike of those things)

I love V8 that's not crazy and I also do crave hummus. It just has to be roasted red pepper or garlic and herb, ect. Something with some extra pizzaz. I like Pizzaz!!!

As for my run today...

4.5 miles !!!!! AT ONE TIME!!! I haven't run that far since...well...EVER in my entire life!!!!

You may all bow in my presence now.

I actually wasn't going to work out at all but thought what the heck...I might as well get a little done I was MAJORLY in a funk today. Not depressed or sad just LAZY!!! I read, and made my daughter lunch and read to her and read some more took a nap, helped my kids when they got home from school and made dinner. That was it. I was looking ahead to tomorrow and knowing I had a lot to do and thought, I need a break just to get through tomorrow.

I then decided to go to the gym while my boys and husband were at basketball practice.

There was this guy next to me running at 6.5 mph and I just kept cadence with him for a mile and a half!! I ran for a mile and a half straight at that pace!!! I love having something to keep me on pace. I have really long legs and felt that was a good pace for me. If it is any slower I still need to slow down because it actually jars my joints too much to "jog".

My favorites are Crunchy Crab roll, Tempura Shrimp roll, and anything with sweet chili sauce! I don't order rolls as much as I used to. I like just the hunk 'o' fish (sashimi) with a little rice. If you have not had "White Tuna", and they have it....get it. It's the belly meat of the Tuna and it's awesome!!! That reminds me...I had better make some reservations to our favorite sushi spot for Valentines.....

I am thrilled to find a sushi (sashimi) guru in NE!!! Who knew! The midwest isn't what I thought it was apparantly.
I have had the white tuna and yes it is really good. As you can imagine we have some great sushi spots here in Seattle. My favorite is a little hole in the wall place that you would never even expect that actually has a conveyor belt that goes around and you just sit at the bar and grab stuff off when you find what you like. The guys are making the stuff right in the middle and it is fascinating!
I am new to the whole sushi thing. Had it my first day in Seattle and was hooked! That was 3 years ago last week. I actually had it 3 times on the trip. (3-day trip 3 sushi restaurants!!!) I kid my husband and say I liked it so much I wanted him to get a job here...and he did!

I started eating sushi about 4yrs ago. People on the coasts usually say "Omaha can't have any good seafood". Thing is, there are a couple local distributers that fly in fresh fish daily to several restaurants and it really is very good. I have had fresh Mahi Mahi in Hawaii, and the same Mahi Mahi here at one of my favorite seafood restaurants and couldn't tell the difference.

So if you find yourself in Omaha for some reason, try a place called Blue. Trendy little sushi place with great food! No conveyer belt, but they do have infused Vodka

I did a 2.5 mile run on Monday on the treadmill, yuck I hate those things.  I am hoping for a 3.0 mile run tomorrow.....if my kids don't have a delayed opening(we are getting snow).  It should be warm enough to run outside, hopefully there isn't too much slop.

Hope everyone is out there running, cause there is not much talking here (we are only on page 5Frown)

Ok...talking....how about a question!!

I see a LOT of "I hate treadmills" on here. I am not sure why? I actually like the treadmill. It's nice to know exactly how fast I am running, be able to see my HR easily, know exactly how far I have gone and in what time.

So my question is:

How do you know your distance and pace when running outside?

-Kurt

P.S.- I think I underestimated myself when picking a goal mileage. That's good though

I now have a Garmin that tracks the distance and pace for me. Before I received it, I drove my car around my neighborhood where I would be running and measured the distance that way. I also run in parks that have mile markers. I put the info in the BT log and it would give me a pace.

I run on a treadmill quite often. I have one outside in the carport. If I cannot get out with the kiddos, I try to run on it during nap time. I like mine so much better than the gym. I thought I was going to fall over the other day trying to use the one at the gym.

I forgot... you can also use the route creator in your log. When I hit create new route, it brings up my city center. I can plot my route from there to get the distance and then have the log also calculate the pace.

You do not have to be a member for this feature, but you may have to have your location city correct. I know some people put their location as "far, far away" and things like that. I do not know if it would work in that case.

I hope this helps.

Great feature. Thanks for showing me that!!
I have messed with similar progams on "mapmyrun" and "mapmyride". It's really nice to have it connected to the logs though. I can't wait for the weather to get better so I can start running and riding on the trails!!!

I have the nike plus system, and it monitors my distance and pace and tells me when I am certain distances in my run.  I find it fairly accurate, but I know some people don't.  And in true Apple fashion, when the battery dies in the transmitter you have to buy a whole new system!  I have a polar heart rate monitor that monitors my HR for all three disciplines.

I am afraid of falling of the treadmill.  I find that my HR is low and my pace is slow on the treadmill, but my rate of perceived exertion is high.

great job on working toward your goalSmile!  I am a little behind because of problems with my treadmill, but I should hit target by the end of the month.

Hey Pam you are doing great!  We have the same goals and you are about where I am.  I see you have problems with your IT band....I do to, at the hip.  I injured it last year, and have finished PT and I am ramping up the run.  I find swimming to help immensely!

Keep it up

Thanks...I did the math I think I am doing okay.  I had bad problems last year with my IT band and now I just have to remember to stretch it really well...I did work with a PT and he was amazing.  I also find rolling on a foam roller to help break up some of the tissue that is hurting.  Have you tried that before?

I haven't tried that before, how do you do that? My husband is always pointing out that I walk around pressing very hard with my hand the length of the band.  It makes it feel better, so maybe a roller woudl work well.

Thanks for the advice on tracking distance. I am always running with my iPod Nano, so I might try the Nike + thingy. I have been reading that it works just fine when attatched to the laces on non-nike shoes. Plus, it gives you encouragement during your run and will track times and distances via the iPod. Pretty cool gadget!

Well maybe your gym has one or you are going to have to go get one.  What I do is lay down on my side...the bad side down, put the roller under that stretch of leg and just roll back and forth from knee to hip letting my weight push my hip into the roller.  I roll back and forth till I can't stand it any more or I get bored...get off and do the other side and then go back.  I really think it makes a difference.  I am looking forward to it...sometimes it can hurt...but that I think is a good thing when I know it is pulling on that muscle.

Pam,

That is actually my goal this weekend.  I figure living in the Twin Cities I should be able to find one somewhere...hopefully cheap....and not on the other side of town.  I'll let you know where I have luck!

HailRunr - 2008-02-11 4:01 PM Ellie Is that last gingerbread sleeping? That's me today...I have 0 energy!!! Maybe I should lay down and call it yoga. Isn't it the plank pose? My weekend was full of...um...uh...what did I do? Oh yeah a spinning interval training video on Saturday followed by much housecleaning. I also had 7 kids at my house ages 9-2 for 4 hours. Believe it or not it was NOT chaotic. In fact I read for about an hour of it. Some friends of ours went out on Saturday and we had their kids at our house in the afternoon, 3:30-7:30 so my kids just had their friends over and they were able to play outside because it wasn't raining for once. I did have sushi on Saturday night. That is probably my favorite meal ever! I haven't had it for a long time so it really hit the spot. Any sushi lovers? Haters? What is another crazy food addiction in our group? No...chocolate is NOT crazy that is a scientifically proven and perfectly normal food to kill people for. ( I mean crave) Happy running!!

Haha! I think it's corpse pose and there are days when that's all I can manage.

I love sushi, but I don't get a chance to eat it as often as I'd like. Made one attempt at making it myself, and it didn't come out too bad. Maybe I'll try again. Now I have sushi on the brain...too bad we already have dinner reservations for tonight or I'd get my husband to take me out for sushi.

I LOVE jelly beans. So that dangerous time of year is almost upon me. Must. Not. Buy. Jelly. Beans. If I just avoid CVS until after Easter, I should be good.

I love hummus. My b-i-l gave me a recipe that is fabulous and I use all the time. Tuna fish with avocado instead of mayo and GUACAMOLE! The fresh stuff - not that stuff you get in the tub at the grocery store.

Another 4 miler done--tried the stides thing and (ugh) it didn't feel so good...tried Runner Bill's suggestions (that's my LRS owner and name of the store)  felt great, knew I was moving at a higher cadence without feeling winded or twinges in the low back.  I think I heart Runner Bill...
