FinanceMan - 2008-09-19 8:36 AM thanks Tanya. Will I see you out there? If so you doing the Sprint or Oly?

I am doing the Oly.  Many ESKCTC'rs will be racing....so look for our black, yellow and orange uniforms.  I also think we will have an easy up tent for the Sprinters to hang out in while they wait for the Olys, so keep a look out!

I'll be there at about the same time. How long is the athlete's meeting? I might be able to stay for a little bit but probably not long. I've got a lot of crap to do afterwards.

Are you guys dropping your bikes off before or after packet pickup?

You cannot rack your bike until you pick up your packet and get your bike number.  There is usually a rack to leave your bike on while you pick up your packet, as they don't want you fumbling with your bike in line. Or you can have someone stand and hold it for you.

I don't know.  All I know is that when I went to Sole Sports running store on Tuesday to buy a 2 bottle fuel belt they didn't have my size/color.  She said they were getting a huge shipment in the next day for their Nathan's booth.  So I said I would just buy it on Saturday then!

Question:

Next to my bike are two other bikes. They're both facing the sam direction and hanging by the seat. I also hung my bike by the seat but I put the seat directly on my rack number which means that our three bikes are all facing the same direction. Shouldn't every other bike face the same direction? Is there a polite way to suggest this while prepping transition tomorrow morning?

Also, how on god's green earth are you supposed to setup transition? There doesn't seem to be much room. Do you do it between bikes or in front of your tire? This was the only thing that kind of freaked me out and since this is my first triathlon I'm a little worried about it. I'm sure I'll just copy the format of those around me but I want to make sure my stuff is there when I exit the water and the bike.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm pumped for this!!!

People need to rack their bikes in the direction their number is.  So the side of the rack your numer is written on.  So either tell them this, or just move their bikes if you get there before them.  And yep...about the width of a beach towel folded in half the long way is all you get. It should be between the bikes and not in front for people to trip on.  Looking down from front to back you should have your bike shoes, helmet with sunglasses in/on it, then run shoes and hat. No kitchen sinks please.

So the handle bars should be on the same side at the rack number? If that's the case then I might be the yahoo that needs to flip my bike around. Oh well, I can do that in the morning.

All I have for transition is shoes, race belt, helmet, sunglasses and hat. I think I can make that fit.

How early do most people show up? I'm getting up at 4am to eat and I should be out the door by 5am.

Edit to add:

I just did a google image search and found some decent pictures of what it should and should not look like. Thanks for the tip Tanya, I'll get mine or the other bikes switch around and I'll be good to go.

It's ok to either have the seat on the rack, or the handlebars....however your bike fits.  But your bike should be on the side of the number.  So going down the rack it should be every other side.  (I cannot rack mine by the handle bars because of my aero bottle.  Plus, having it hung by it's tail, it is ready to just be unhooked, and go! No need to turn your bike around to get it going in the right direction).

Some people actually figure out transition and practice it BEFORE a race. Haha!

They said that the water was about 82 degrees and that the even would not be wet suit legal. They did say if you decided to wear a wet suit that you would eliminate yourself from being eligible to receive an award in the event that you podium but that you would get your split times.

I recall that you're doing the OLY so you'll be in wave 4 which starts at 6:42am. I just checked the site and it looks like the information on start times has been updated.

Yeah, that would have been nice but this is my first race so I didn't know what the setup was going to be like. I'll just have to turn my bike around in the morning

Thanks Mirg, I knew no wet suits would be allowed but wanted to double check. Folks, this race is going to be a bit FUBAR on the bike. They are sending all of us off WAY to close together. Men 35-39 OLY will be swimming right into women Sprint. The bike course is going to be a frackin' mess. At Tempe Int., they had the waves much more spread out. The bike course sucks and is going to be VERY crowded! Be careful out there and listen for a lot of "ON YOUR LEFT!"

I was there early chatting with Tim DeBoom.

Yeah, about 4 minutes apart. I bet by the second lap on the bike we'll all be on top of each other. This will get messy as the sprint racers are going to the left into transition after the second loop and the OLY racers are staying to the right to begin loop 3.  Gotta make sure you don't get boxed in if your doing the sprint.
