Anyone else staying at the Hyatt? I'm wondering how close it is to the finish..... I am at the official race headquarters Galt House Hotel & Suites. Just out of curiosity why would you stay at the Hyatt when there are still rooms at the "official" hotel?

And Saturday was even worse because they shut down 2 elevators for a wedding. Hundreds of bikes and 2 elevators does not work out very well. |

Got a rental car, the drive over the race site was quick and easy. I also had a room with a kitchen in it. So I didn't have to eat out for the week I was there. Even made dinner for my friends and family the night before the race. Not to mention, that room with a kitchen was chaper per night than the host hotel. The ONLY pain in the butt was having to go back to the host hotel the next morning (EARLY!) to buy finishers stuff. That was miserable. |

Anyone else staying at the Hyatt? I'm wondering how close it is to the finish..... Oh, and FYI... the host hotel is NOT THAT close to the finish line. You would still have a walk even if you stayed there. Shoot, after you finish, they make you walk a good block to get food and to pick up your bag if you had one from the swim start. It was all I could to do make it to the convention center for food, etc. In fact, I made it to the door but never made it to the food. Just sat down on the floor against a wall. I was done for. Champion 10157![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Alabama | Subject: RE: IMKY 20092009 will by my 3rd IMKY and 3rd stay at the Galt House. I highly reccommend it! When I go to Disney world, I stay in a Disney hotel becuase it's part of the experience. Registration is at the Galt House, the expo is there, all of the athlete briefings are there, bike tech is there, the massage people are there and a couple of thousand of your fellow triathletes and their families will be there. Yes, without question, the elevators suck! I learned the hard way though - reguest 'the lowest floor available' when you make your reservation. If you stay on the 2nd or 3rd floor, you will never get on an elevator as there are escalators in the east towers. No kitchen but he Galt House dinning room - the Magnolia Cafe - has a good breakfast buffet. The hotel is w/i walking distance to the KICC where the pre-race and post race banquets are held. The hotel is on the river and you can sit in your room and look out at the river to monitor water conditions. :-) You can walk to the starting area and you can walk from the finishl ine back to your room. The Galt House is not the cheapest hotel but you spent $500+ on the race entry and $2k - $3k on your bike and countless dollars on tubes, gels, bike repairs, pool fees, running shoes, bike gadgets and such....now is not the time to skimp. Enjoy the weekend and be right in the middle of things. ~Mike |

Yes, you are the only idiot who made this bonehead mistake. Well, you asked. :-)
BTW, on a semi-related note....I've often wondered why people get to the race site so much ahead of the race. Why arrive Monday or Tuesday for a Sunday race? Even arriving Wednesday seem excessive to me. I don't even think the expo opens till Thrusday. I'm fortunate in that I only live about 4 hrs from Louisville so I get there about noon on Friday. ~Mike |

Veteran 211![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: IMKY 2009 More questions about IMKY..... 1) How far is the airport from race site? Family MAY fly in/out for the weekend. 2) Does anyone know about RV camping near race site. We are thinking of purchasing one next spring-Can easily make payments for the year from what we spend on hotels during race season. 3)How much is race site hotel per day? When do they fill up for race weekend? Thanks for any input-I will have many during the next 10 months!!! BTW-this off season rest/recharge stuff is crap.(sure I'll regret that last statement about mid July at about mile 80 of a 100 mile ride in 100+ temps-lol |

I added a room in early August and it wasn't an issue. I believe the cost was $189 / night. |

And they have a sweet Bourbon bar.

Of course a taxi would be fine too. 2) My Dad brought his RV down and stayed at KOA campground (maybe?) across the river in Indiana. It was close, but still a 10 minute drive to the race location. 3) I don't understand. Edited by KSH 2008-10-17 5:47 PM |

Bike area is 1 - 1.5 miles from 4th Street Live or so. Appearantly there's a shuttle? I had my mother pick up my bike while I was running. 3. Galt and Hyatt at 1/2 - 3/4 mile apart or so. (Galt is closer to the transition area and start, Hyatt is closer to the finish). |

How far are the Hyatt and Galt house apart? If you have someone there with you, give them your ticket to get your bike while you are out on the first or last 13 mile run loop. They can take a shuttle to get your bike. Yeah, my boyfriend didn't know that until later and walked it himself. IF you are using TriBike Transport, tell your bike picker-uper to drop it off there, versus bringing it back. I forgot to do that and we had to drop it off the next morning. |
