Yeah...I know, I'm stopping in to say hi to the others, but it's a little quiet out there...we'll see how it goes now that holiday travel is over.  I can always open it back up at some point as necessary.

Yes Erica, you did use "y'all" in the appropriate manner. I wish I was just at home. I need to marry a rich man and become a kept woman! Haha!  Actually, while I'm at work, I'm slightly under the weather...got a cold. First time in 2.5 years I've had any sickness that I actually feel bringing me down.  Did a recovery run with my unit this morning (well, recovery for me...I'm working on them) in the rain, which probably doesn't help...but don't think I'll be swimming at all today.  My sleep has been sporadic at best...oh well. I'm determined to make sure today is the only day of missed workouts.

I officially signed up (and paid) for my first Sprint Tri! I better get busy now

St. Patrick's Day Sprint Triathlon -- Since I'm pale skinned and have red hair (what's left of it), I thought this would be a good race to start with!

WOOOHOOO!!! Good for you, and I like your reasons for picking it.  Hmmm, I may have to do one of those St. Patty day ones at a time...I have the pale skin and red hair too (but plenty on the hair)...wow, you picked a very cold and icy Plano day to register!

Heh.  That's funny!

I have been hungry all day.  I don't think I had enough calories yesterday and have been paying for it today.  I hate day's like this.

On a food note, Bryan grilled steak for dinner for us tonight.  It was good but I'm just not much of a steak eater.  Sooooo, I had a bunch of salad and a baked potato with my four bites of steak.  And some red wine.  That is a food group, right?

Yep! I was training a bit last fall and had a race in my training plan for Oct, but was coaching my daughters volleyball team and ended up with a conflict. I figured I might as well and put the money down so I can't back out.

It seems like my girls have something going on just about EVERY Saturday!! My youngest revolves around basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball throughout the year and gymnastics a couple days a week year round. I WAS playing in an adult baseball league for the past 5 years, but finally had to hang up the cleats to keep up with my girls.

I hear that. I have to drive two hours each way to be at my kid's events. So, I have to modify every training plan to make Thurs and Fri my long days or those runs and rides just don't happen. You might want to switch your plan around too if Saturdays are always your busy family day.

It really is all about time management.  It is harder when you have kids in the picture.  They are demanding little suckers, aren't they!   It does take some time to figure it all out and once you think you have it down, schedules change!  Frustrating stuff but it helps to roll with the punches.

If/when you get a chance swing by Brittany's logs and drop her an inspire.  She's feeling a bit under the weather.

Thanks for the notes y'all. I'm doing significantly better today and was able to do my morning workout and intend to do my run this afternoon, just at a slower pace than was on the schedule.  Silly little colds....thankfully, I haven't really had anything for 2.5 years, so considering this one is appearing to be mild, I cannot complain!

Thanks!  We know I hate page 2!

Morning peeps!  We got some ice overnight.  Yuck.  The kiddos have a 90 minute delay while most of the rest of the state is closed!   Now I can stick to my training plan and run today.  Sweet!  It'll probably be a treadmill run  but it is better than nothing, right?  3-4 miles.  I am thinking of getting my HRM strap out of the box and attempting to use it.  Brittany, or anyone for that matter,  how do you set zones?

Good morning team! I am feeling OH so much better...but I am going to have to do two workouts after lunch cause I couldn't get up out of my nyquil induced haze earlyl this morning. no more of that stuff, it truly KNOCKs me out. I did get some good sleep though and would put me back at 95%.

HR zones--this is an excellent question.  I am by no means an expert on training with HR. I've done it a little bit, and I watch my HR cause I have an idea of what mine are and so it helps me know if I'm not putting out enough effort or possibly exerting myself too much.  Instead of my attempts at explaining this subject, I highly encourage you to read Mike Ricci's post in Tri-Talk about it.
D3 Multisports also has an excel sheet that, with your times from the LT test, calculate your zones for you. CLICK HERE: HR EXCEL SHEET

There are several great articles on their site, so, if you have some time to kill and want to learn more about triathlon, click here: D3 Articles

I hope that helps you out!

Good grief, the bowl games aren't over YET...needless to say, I haven't had a need to watch my team in a bowl game since '96, and it wasn't "officially" my team at the time--more a hopeful...and since my class graduated, well, the Army Black Knights have officially sucked and lost to Navy every year, which means a total losing season.  We could lose EVERY game of the year, but beat Navy and it was a winning season...alas, my class took the mojo with us apparently.

On the "fun tonight" since I'm feeling all healthy again, I have a swim (that I should've done this morning but my nyquil induced coma didn't allow), and then a Brick (45 min bike/3 mile run) when I get home.  I am motivated for it and will do it.  Not happy to have be forced to slack on Mon/Tues.

Aww, Brittany, that is SOOOOOOOO sad that Army has LOST every year to Navy since you left.    GO NAVY!  We really do like the Commander in Chief's cup and are not ready to give it up!

Kirk, I'll route for Florida for ya since I don't really care who wins!

Kirk, good luck on getting done with work early...I have little to say about the game!

I had a pretty good day yesterday and am looking for another good one today.  I am finding it a little difficult sometimes to get in what I have to with unit PT, cause sometimes I'm looking at 3+ hours of workouts (between tri training and unit PT) and of course the need to still do things like clean, cook, play with my dogs, and sleep!  So, I'm learning how to balance it all.  Sometime I'm slightly (or more) intimidated by the IM training I'm going to face this year and I wonder what I've gotten myself into and will I really do all the training I need to do?  I hope the answer is yes...but it is going to be a year of being determined for sure.  At least we have fairly decent weather (minus what seems like constant wind!) where I am. I don't envy those of you in the land of snow!

Okay peeps.  Those of you with bike trainers, tell me what kind you have.  What you like and dislike about it.  Would you buy it again?  I need to get one soon and I am starting to do my research now. Let's hear it!

I have a Travel Trac Century Adjustable Fluid Plus Trainer. To be honest I didn't do much research other than check the local Craigslist. This was an open box item and deeply discounted.

I like that you can change the resistance with the lever that I attach to the handlebar. I would buy it again for the $100 I paid for it. I'm not sure about other trainers, but this unit does get REALLY hot. I would consider this a con, but have nothing to compare to. Good luck!

Definitely get one like that where you can change the resistance without dismounting. I bought one from www.nashbar.com . They have a lot of great bike stuff that is pretty cheap most of the time.

I bought the Cycleops Fluid Trainer 2...it is awesome. It is not that loud at all, and when you shift gears, it automatically changes resistance.  It is well made and sturdy.  I have spent dozens of hours on it, and if it weren't for my trainer I would be in a world of hurt come cycling time because I'm stuck with darkness for a lot of my rides.  I think the longest I've spent on the trainer is 3.5 hours...not necessarily the most fun and definitely a sweat fest, but when it's pouring outside and it's a critical ride, you pop in some movies and go for it!

Cycleops isn't the cheapest, but you can find some good deals on e-bay.  You don't need the expensive front wheel stands...books will do just fine.  Nor do you need th expensive mat...I have a cheap "runner" carpet that is beneath mine to protect my carpet, and it works well too.  Completely recommend it...their other ones are good too (magnetic) but they are louder.  This one can get a little hot, but it's never been ridiculous at all.
