Just finished my first tri.....ended up finishing 11th out of 350 in 1:06:22 it was a sprint....I didn't truly push myself mainly because I didn't know what was coming the next corner seeing as this was my first one...but next time I hopefully won't be such a noob and waste all my time in transitions...

and tomorrow officially starts my HIM training

Congrats! That's awesome!

My mini-goals for this week -

1) Follow my training plan (or a close approximate thereof).
2) Clean eating...because I'm going to be drinking way too much. (Margarita lunch on Thursday, wine dinner on Friday, and probably more.)

I suck.

I had a long swim and a short run on the training plan for today...and I'm going to do neither. The weather plus a meeting that ran long at work kept me from getting to the pool (pool closes for thunderstorms, which we've had off & on all afternoon). And then that threw off me running to the grocery store which cut into my run time. Wow, that sounds like a worse excuse than my dog ate the homework!

But here's my query...I'm using a maintenance training plan from BT and I just realized it has no rest days. Huh? I was just going to move today's workout to another day, but there's no empty days. There are a few easy days - I'll probably redistribute, but still. I was surprised.

Thats funny i had a short run and a longish ( for me ) swim planned today as well. I skipped the run this morning because my lower legs are killing me from stomping up and down snow slopes this weekend. Then i went to the pool but after 20 min of just doing easy drills i found that i could not get enough air, checked my heart rate and it was way up. nothing was helping so i bailed.

So i am thinking i am sick or still needing recovery time from the weekend....... Probably going to wake up sick but thinking positive .........

Sorry to go MIA on everyone, life is just crazy now. Sick 4 month old makes for great sleep and just a ton of extra time when you have to stay  home from work cause day care won't take a sick child.

SO keep those mini goals for the week coming. I need to do better this week.

No problem.  Family first.  They are the number one and very best reason I miss any workouts.  Hope your little one is OK.  I am seeing a lot of people coming in worried about H1/N1.  We are currently taking all possibles seriously.  Hope I do not run in to the real thing this week.  I am very excited and anxious about the 25k, so getting sick right now would be a major bummer.   See you at the race.

I am 1/2 way to this week's goal.
I ran yesterday, and insomnia and a 24 Hour fitness helped me get a 4am swim in...

I only wish their pool was bigger than 20yds.

I can never get available for the local pool's lap swim time.
I also have been having calf cramp and lower back problems, so I want to up my swimming time.

wow!  Everyone is doing so well!

Shermbelle - I hope your little one gets better.  My boys are getting over a cold as well so I feel your pain!

I'm having issues getting motivated.  We have had some very depressing (for us) things going on in our house and I'm just not in the mood to do anything.  I have however packed up half the house so that's a bonus considering we move next weekend!

Tomorrow is swimming.

I'm very glad I've been doing well with my training

For those of you who feel not very motivated sometimes, I suggest watching a triathlon/ironman video on youtube!

Check this out. It's the Brazil (my home country) Ironman:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRdHL3dUhUc

The ironman this year will be held on the 31th May and I have a couple of friends who will participate! For more info on the beautiful island of Florianopolis...

Good training!

I have only swam 5 times since last september and I just swam 1650 m and I felt I could have kept going.  What a relief that is.  Now, I need to get acclimated back to the heat and humidity for my runs and I should be good.

It went great, and I ran better than I had expected.  I averaged an 8:11 mile and beat my goal of 2:10 by over 3 min.  I hot a bit of a wall at 14 miles, but picked it up again with 1 mile to go.  I did not mind the rain, kept me cool.  I ran without my IPOD for the first time after reading an article in Michigan Running about leaving off the earphones and enjoying the comaraderie or the race and the sounds of the crowd.  I am so glad I did.  There was a point at around mile 12 where someone was playing 'Eye of the Tiger'  on a loudspeaker and I thought about all of the miles I have logged since I started running last July, and I got all welled up and teary.

I am definitely hooked and am trying to decide between the GR Marathon or the Detroit Marathon in the Fall.  I feel like I can now call myself an Endurance Athlete.

How was your race?  Was the course alot tougher than in years past?  Did you meet your goals?

I met this week's goals.
Although just barely.
This week I have two goals.
1. One workout each sport.
2. To get over 4 miles of total running on my workout.

Who has races coming up?

I have Redondo on 6/14 (The day after I walk for my Ed.D. from UCLA.)

Way to go, great job. Yay it was a tough day out there with the conditions. I used it as a long training run.

As far as the course, yeah it was much tougher than years past. The first half use to be flat as a pancake along the river but obviously O'Brien St. was far from that. It sounds like you are hooked now, I have run GR Marathon 3x and would recomend it if you enjoyed the Riverbank run course as the marathon course is similiar with less hills but same area.

Hey im back. Good to see some people getting thier goals done. So yes i was sick, am still sick, but now its just a head cold so i can start doing some training. I have a sprint in just under a month and i am soooo not ready for the swim. Its not like I cant swim that far but i would really like to do it all freestyle.

This weeks goals I am going to stick to skills training for all 3 sports this week unless I wake up one day and feel 100%.

Oh, and I am trying the nutrition advice of - eat 25% of your calories in the first hour of waking up.

I have been trying to do that since Th.

It works when I am at work and I pack a lunch. It keeps me from eating too much the rest of the day.

At home on the weekend, well - I just more all day anyway.

Hi Michael,

I recently found out I am 6-week pregnant! Oh my God...!! I have been reading and researching to see if I could keep training, and as far as I read, exercising is totally recommended and it will be very beneficial for me and for the baby

It seems that when you get pregnant you should keep doing "what you have been doing already". And although I have been training triathlon for nearly 4 years, last year I slowed down very much, and September last year I literally stopped running, and I was only swimming twice a week, and spinning once (now I exercise 5 days/week).

I started my training plan right when I got pregnant (I didn't know...), so in a way, it means that I have been gradually "increasing" my training load since then and this is my concern. I have been trying to keep an eye on my heart rate and to respect my body if I'm tired... I follow the plan seriously but well, I train for fun, I don't train to be an elite athlete anyway. I asked the doctor and he said it's fine, pregnancy is not a disease.

I don't know if I will be able to take part in the race in June not because I don't want to (I will be only 3 month pregnant), but because I don't know if I will be able to cope with the training plan/ if I will really improve as I have been feeling gradually more tired every day. It's true some days I have to train so little though! like 14 min running... or 18 min swimming... but still.

When I train I don't feel so tired. I feel really tired when I wake up (even after 8/9 hours sleep), I feel like I weigh a ton!

What do you think?

thanks!!
