Looks like we got some great weather for this weekend.  I remember last year @ the race it shot up quick into the high 80's with sunshine and it really got to me on the run.  I hope to squeeze in a good brick with some of this heat.  1 month to go..  cheers

There's a ton of great places to eat in NOLA of course you already know that. However the night before a big race I tend to make sure its something I'm used to and the stomach is used to. I'll likely eat dominos with my feet up in my room  :-)

But make sure you eat as many local restaurants for other meals as possible. We spend our money on food in NOLA and never regret it.

Been down here in Louisiana for 6 years so actually it's Beignets (sorry about that!).  Now while I might agree with you about other foods there are a few things you have to try.  There are the usuals Jambalaya, Gumbo, and Shrimp Po boy sandwiches.  You have to try Boudin balls and the classic: Alligator.  Also you may want to try shrimp or crawfish etoufee.

One warning, you may want to tackle trying all of these after the race!!!

Hey guys! I have a quick question…This is my First Half Ironman and I wanted to ask, will there be changing tents? My poor perineum just doesn’t do well with the tri-suit padding and needs legit cycling shorts padding. Thanks guys! Looking forward to your replies.

Have you ever ridden with your cycling shorts over your tri suit? Would save you a ton of transition time and many people do this in HIM and Ironmans. You have plenty of time to train with them before your HIM. I am not sure if there are changing tents, but usually they are only at Ironmans. The best way to find out for sure is to contact RD for this race.

I believe that they had changing tents last year, but I do not remember seeing anyone actually use them.

The transition was pretty big and it was a bit of a run from the bike rack to the tent and back again. So unless you are lucky enough to get an assigned position right next to the tent it would add a significant amount of time to the transitions.

Have you considered an Adamo or John Cobbs? I do all my long rides with tri shorts on an Adamo Road and have no regrets. I used to use my normal saddle and had the same issue you are describing.

Most HIMs do not have changing tents.  I can't remember is NO70.3 had them last year.  I would guess No.

After my perineum “incident,” I promptly sought the Adamo seat and it has been a miracle. Unfortunately, I have been too afraid (after the issue I had! You would be too!) to ride in just tri-shorts again! At your advice, I will try it again and see what it’s like.

Option 2: Tri Shorts Inside Cycling shorts:

Im nervous about putting wet tri-shorts inside cycling shorts. Has anyone here done that? Had any issues?

Thanks again guys! Honestly, if not for you, I don’t know who I would ask! Trial and error I guess buy why re-invent the wheel. Thanks for your guidance.

Definitely try your adamo. If you still have perineum problems you are unfortunately not riding the saddle properly.

So... I just now realized that Lake Pontchartrain is salty.  I've done a few beach triathlons, and in the most recent one (my first oly) I had some chafing due to the salt in my shorts once they dried out.  I guess I'm kinda just thinking out loud, but has anyone else had issues with salt in the shorts?  Maybe just having an extra water bottle in T1 to hose off them off a bit...?  Suggestions are welcome.

thanks for the heads up. I had no idea it was a salty lake! i would do what you suggested and hose off with an extra water bottle. i always use extra body glide down "there" in places that can chafe.

does anyone know if they have that sprinkling shower system they have at other salty water locations?

Your half IM nutrition is very different from a full, more into fast absorption sugars than anything else. What you use is something you'll have to figure out yourself BEFORE the race by doing a similar distance on the bike more than once. DO NOT IMPROVISE, you should never try something new on race day.
In my particular case, Perpetuem by Hammer Nutrition has worked well but only on the bike, Gatorade in Halves has given me really bad cramps. Infinity is also good, you may want to try it.

Nutrition wise I am going to use one bottle of infinit (aero drink) and one bottle of gatorade endurance.  Will live off the course for the rest.  Since Gatorade endurance is what they are offering I bought a container and have been training with that.  Snack bars in the bento box.

It's not 'that' salty.  It's brackish.  I didn't have issues.  It's definitely not like swimming in the Gulf at IMFL.  Don't worry about.  And there are not any fresh water showers.

I've always heard and put into practice taking in 1000 calories on the bike between your sports drinks, gels and clif bars and you should be good to go. I did the HIM in Orlando last year and it worked pretty well for me... just make sure you practice that during your last couple of bricks before race weekend!
