Veteran 112 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses I put in another 27 last night -- at this point I am at more than 50% of what I did last month and at 42% of my goal! This is good since next week is a rest week and I will be travelling without my bike for part of it. GO G3! |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses AWESOME JOB, LADIES!!!! We have a slight lead but it is oh.so.slight. Keep up the great work! I haven't done my ride yet today but the bike is sitting on my roof rack and I packed a bag to go riding right after work, followed by a long ride on Sunday (rain or shine!) with my fellow BTers. Have fun this weekend and pedal lots! |

I am LEAVING in about 1/2 hour to ride 20, which will probably take me an hour and a half! I am THE slowest cyclist on this entire website, I assure you. we possums are notorious for being found dead on the road.... That's 'cause your method of defense against a speeding 18-wheeler is to lie down in the middle of the road and play dead. Possums ain't too bright. Enjoy your ride. Riding 20 with a goal of 90????. That's 22% of your entire MONTH goal. Are you sure you can handle that distance???? weeeeelllll, no, I am not sure. my ITB is constantly touch and go.. Also, I will be away at a conference the last week in June, so I gotta get it done now, AND I have a race that I might try and do June 19, so I'll need to lay off next week.... But thanks so much for your concern! (you will also notice from my logs that I have not been much of a cyclist, so this challenge is helping!) |

Champion 5183 Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses I, uh, hit my goal today. Now before the guys start in with the whole sandbagging accusations, go look at my logs and you will see that I consistently rode less that my goal for this month...I had a terrible time with my bike confidence and always felt on the verge of a crash, hills were terrifying, and I would get all short of breath in anxiety. But I found some cool women to ride with, and suddenly, overnight it feels like, I am ENJOYING myself on the bike, and the hills that felt like torture a month ago are mere bumps. I feel more confident, less anxious, and understand better about how/when to shift. So I beat my goal handily even before the halfway mark. So to make it more fair, I hereby raise my goal to 150 which is almost twice what I have been riding heretofore. |

Expert 997 North Central WV | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Good news Goddesses - just when I thought my cycling season may have come to a grinding halt (those who read my thread about my cycling woes yesterday will understand), I pounded out another 57 miles today without a single twinge. WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO! Thank goodness. With my 1/2 two weeks away as of today, I was seriously wondering if I would be able to do it after the pain in my quads yesterday. But, it turns out that I am still here for ya gals. Nice work to date everyone. Keep at it. Malgal |

Elite 2468 Racine, WI | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses YAAAAAAY MALGAL I am very relieved I was actually thinking of you as I rode today (100 miles GO GODDESSES). I can really sympathize because after wiping out on my bike 2 weeks ago I still can't swim. I have an Oly in 2 weeks and a 1/2 in 5, I'm having serious doubts. Do you have any idea at all what caused ithe pain in the first place? |

Expert 997 North Central WV | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Awwww - thanks Cindy. How nice to know someone is actually thinking of me I really have no idea. My best bet is that the muscle was ischemic (not enough oxygen) for some reason. I am guessing that the wetsuit was way too tight (I put on about 15 lbs over winter and on a 5' 1"er, that translates into inches in girth) which reduced blood flow to my legs. I really hammered out the swim and I mostly swim with my upper body in tris so blood flow to my upper body was probably increased dramatically during the swim (hence reduced blood flow to the lower extremities). I am right-handed so I probably took off on the bike with my right leg which was not yet ready to ride. This may have contributed to cramping as well. So, that is the most plausable explanation this science-dork can come up with. All I know is that I don't ever want to experience that again! So much so that I am going to drive to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to buy a new wetsuit! I have stressed enough about the 1/2 IM. The swim is my strongest leg and I don't want to have a bad swim because I am uncomfortable in my wetsuit. Great ride today girl. I am yet to have done a century. I have done one over a weekend (30 on the first day and 70 on the second). You are an inspiration to the Goddesses! LET'S GO GIRLS. |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Although I didn't make either my swim or bike goal last month, I don't want my team to fret. I don't use the logs here so I update the bear weekly. I didn't get my update in in time this week but I've ridden 108 of my 280 mile goal this week, and I have a big riding week ahead of me. I'm planning on doing the Tourd'Italia in Italy, Texas, on Saturday and I'll either do a 42- or 50-mile ride. I fully intend to make my goal this month. The funny thing is that I probably wouldn't have considered this upcoming "tour" without the challenge. Group bike rides are fun--especially when you need to bring it. |

Way to go and keep up the good work! Funny what a little challenge will boost you to do. As for me, I punched out just under 65 this weekend. Actually, I took a little spill (oh, not on the bike, while RUNNING) and pulled my left glute. Had to rest yesterday but will be riding later in the week! |

I will definitely take her advice as I am already behind on my goal. Replying to a message by kimj81 on 2005-06-10 Keep gettin' in any ride you can... even shorties! After my bike challenge with bear, I realized that if I'd just gotten on my bike almost everyday for a half hour in addition to the longer rides, I would have been much closer to his mileage (but, lawdy, who knew he'd whoop out 900 miles!?!). Lots of little rides add up BIG! |

I'm not in the challenge since I'm still working out pretty much all aspects of the tri thing, but I must send major kudos to all of you. I went on my first real ride this Sunday and all I can say is ouch. My 18 mile ride turned into something shorter than that and took me 2 hours to finish. Big props to all of you. You go , girls! |

St. Louis, MO | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Renee, I'm glad you shared this. I have a hard time thinking that anything under an hour is worth it on the bike. But just 30 minutes after my abs class is time in the saddle and time when I can push pace or do intervals instead of just "going the distance." Every mile counts! Keep pedaling Gear Godesses (even if it's just for a little bit). Renee - 2005-06-13 9:29 AM I want to share some sage advice I received from Kim.
