obeewriter - 2010-09-02 1:25 PM I've tracked the accuweather 15 day forecast before and I am doing it again for Rev3 just for fun.  If you actually keep track of how the forecast changes, you will see that it is useless to look at the high temperature forecast until 2 days before and the low temperature forecast is useless to look at until the day before.  If you don't believe me, track it yourself.  So far, the forecast for the 12th has changed every day dramatically with each forecast even as we have gotten closer.

And, don't even get me started with the precipitation forecast.  It is useless until the day of and then you have to look at a map and decide for yourself.  The weather people do some good stuff for emergency predictions and general temps, but forecasting for endurance events is not their forte.

But really, what else is an obsessive compulsive girl in taper supposed to do? heh heh

Anyone have any goals or guessed finishing times?
I have only done one other HIM and that was last year (5:49).
My first goal is to beat that time and my second is to hit 5:30.
I think I can do it because I think I am better on both the run (9:14 pace last year) and the bike (18 mph last year). I think between the two I am going to cut about 14-20 minutes off my time this year (probably most on the run). My swim training hasnt been that great but I dont think I will be much more than 2-3 minutes off last years pace.

I'm excited to put this one to bed as well!!!

Something about school starting, fall, end of summer.....

But weather schmeather..... I'm packing the Ziploc bags and arm warmers just in case!

Learned a valuable lesson riding in frigid rain soaked temperatures last year in Boise.  I guess if it's pouring your shoes will get soaked, but it sure felt nice to put on dry run shoes before I ran 13.1.

But my ill planning and thinking it'd be warm left me dreaming of a jacket the whole ride as I was getting soaked.  Not leaving anything to chance this time around -- even if weather.com's prediction of "chance of thunderstorm" is unpredictable at this point!

This being my first half, Im hoping to go 6:30, not a real strong runner at this point.  For some reason I'm just hoping to get out of the water, something nagging me agout the swim, don't know why though.

73 for a high, 62 for a low, 11 mph out of the northwest for 9/12. I know, it will change 15 times between now and then, but I can't help but look every few hours!! High winds the day before... I would take rain and heat over wind any day!

Me too but I only fear that for the swim.  I guess we'll just have to gut it out on the bike.  Me no like waves.  I don't even know what a wave is frankly.

Kimm-antsy?  I feel like I'm going to throw up for the past two days.  Is that the same thing?  No I think it means I am dreadfully underprepared.

I am, however, keeping my fingers crossed the recent weather forecast of a HIGH of 73 holds true.  Will make for just  peachy run weather.  and 10% chance of precip will soften the blow of suffering for what will be a long day for me :-)

My goal is to be under 6 hours. I am really nervous about the swim too. Witht hat said, don't we swim right next to the breakwall? If we have any wind and it comes out of the northwest, our swimming area should be protected, right? I sure hope so!

Don't forget that Rev3 has an alternate swim course available.  If the waves get too bad, they'll move us to the marina side of the peninsula.

By the way, it looks like rain on Saturday is a very real possibility.  Don't forget to bring something to cover any electronics/gears once you turn over your bike.

Aaaaand, based on the above link, it looks like the water is down to 66.  Hedging into fullsuit territory.

No way the water is 66 degrees. I was up there boating at marblehead a few weeks ago and we went over to the beach at the Breakers. The water was cool and even a little bit warm at 300 yards from shore. It does get cooler the further from the beach but it didnt seem 66 when we were tubing in the deeper parts of the lake.

I was just going on the link posted.  And in the past week, it has been significantly cooler at night on top of those winds that may be pushing to cold closer to the edges.  <shrug>

I know, un real, right, but you finished!  I was disappointed, too, but realized I don't need the shirt to prove to everyone else that I finished.  I know I finished.

and hardly anyone outside this world knows WTH it is anyway. (personal aside, I had to snicker this morning in an unamed chain restaurant getting brkfst on the way out of town someone still had their wristband on.)

Bummer you're sick.....feel better and relish in your HUGE accomplishment!

Eric I think has been more than responsive all leading up to this race, I know they'll come through with the shirts!

I loved this race! I did the 70.3 and there were volunteers at every corner, refreshments (fully stocked) several times on the bike and approximately every 1.5 miles on the run. Swim was well marked (buoys you could see!) and the bike and run course was marked at every turn (and most were manned). The course was beautiful, a short beach to transition run, a beautiful bike course through the country and a neat run snaking through town (did anyone see the window paintings on the building at about mile 5; I loved the binoculars). The finish was a bit chaotic and I couldn't find the food for a while and yes, I got a rain check on the finisher's shirt too. However, I overheard a Rev3 staff member at the finish who indicated that they had ordered plenty of shirts to cover all of the finishers (of course they know exactly how many they need!) and they had either been misplaced or walked away. What a pity if someone stole them! The staffer was quite upset. However it made me feel much better about having to wait for my shirt.

I'm looking forward to next year!
