68 would be nice.  Weather.com show 81 for Sunday.  Big range in temps.  Water temp is rising fast too.  Hope Accuweather is right

enjoy,

Very true.  A few clouds would be nice.  I melt if the sun hits me.  This is a "B" race for me and just another weekend so I'm a bit indifferent on the weather.  I've got a 85/4 and 15/14 this weekend.  I only get 48 hours to taper.  Still want to PR though.  Yippee!!!

The forecast on weather.com looks PERFECT for a fast race.  Now we just need some rain and cooler mornings or I will be eating crow that this swim is a guaranteed wetsuit swim.

Is anyone planning on an OWS on Saturday?  If so, where/when?  Does anyone know if Lake P will be open for swimming on Saturday?

So which site is more accurate?

I follow this site:

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=nwcl1

Is this site a more accurate????

http://weather.lumcon.edu/stationdata.asp?stationid=103

The one I follow seems to always be a few degrees (2-3) cooler.

I don't know which one is closer to the actual swim and a better one to watch/follow.

I've got my Torque suit dusted off and ready if needed.  Gonna have to figure out how I make up the 3-4 minutes on a slower swim.

A bunch of people will be swimming at the beach (race start) on Saturday when they drop off their bikes.  That's what I did last year and what I'm planning on doing again this year -- just a short 15 minute dip to remember that the filthy water isn't THAT bad.

You can also swim a litte further to the west around the pilings at what is refered to as the swim hole . .  it has a 400 yard loop of pilings that are good for open water time trialing and sighting.

Not sure but looking at the map its just down from the swim.  Not sure where the other one is located.  I hope yours is indicative of what we will be facing.

Remember that they take the water temperature first thing in the morning, before sunrise even. So even though the temps hit 79 at the LUMCOM station later in the day, temps below 77 have been recorded every morning this week. Lows around 60 are forecast for Friday and Saturday nights. If I was racing I'd be cautiously optimistic to the possibility of it being wetsuit legal.

Dropping like Flies? No one should be competing in a 70.3 if they can not finish a 1.2 mile swim without a wetsuit.

Station NWCL1 is locates about 4nm west of the swim site. The actual location is the New Canal lighthouse near Westend point.

FYI, LUMCON has lake temps currently at 75.6 and NDBC has them at 74.7, both temps being taken a little after 12:00 noon today.  99.999% chance that the temps will be below 76.1 on Sunday at 6:00am, especially considering the forecasted air temps between now and then and the rain chance on Friday (see chart below).  I'll be in my wetsuit regardless, if for no other reason than to have less of my skin exposed to that not-so-clean water (less chance to get stuck with a discarded needle).

I am not coming in till Sat. So I am not sure if I'll swim in the lake or not. I routinely swim in lakes and rivers up here around Vicksburg so I don't guess it could be much different.

I am so psyched about the favorable weather forecast, I hope it holds up. I'm planning on swimming Saturday afternoon. If I also wanted to take a quick bike ride on Lakeshore, is it better to head east or west from the transition area?
