I have a question regarding portions of fruit and veg.  I just had my main meal of the day.  As part of it I had half a cucumber, a tomato, a banana, a cup of watermelon and 18 raw peanuts.  Is that the equivalent of a serving of vegetables and a serving of fruit? (That's how I counted them yesterday)  Or is it more?  Do quantities matter?

Thanks!

I say the cucumber and tomato are 1 veg and the banana and watermelon are each 1 fruit.  THe reason I count the cucumber and tomato combined is that cucumber would be a "free" food with wt watchers or similar programs, it takes more cal to digest it than are in it.
Isn't a tomato actually a fruit? It has seeds.....

and a skin/peel.

Tiffanator - 2011-02-03 11:24 AM Yet another king cake in the break room today. I won't count it as a victory until it's all gone, and no one seems interested in the last 1/4 of the cake. I just filled my belly with an apple, an orange and some water, so I'm satisfied.

I now really miss living in Louisiana and particularly the king cake!

Grumble...  grumble...  This banana I'm eating is not providing nearly as much satisfaction as that bag of chips calling for me from the vending machine...

LMAO....but it's better for you Wink

I'm excited about the fruit/veggie serving link someone posted earlier. Apparently I've been a little low on my serving count.

Keep up the good work - you are much stronger than I would be!!!  I'm not really a cake person...  but it wouldn't matter much to me.  I love any free food when it's put out for the taking.

Then you would be in big trouble where I work. During king cake season we typically have 3 a week, then someone usually brings in donuts 2-3 times a month, or biscuits. Then at Christmas we are overwhelmed with gift baskets from consultants, and they are filled with candy, cookies, and crackers.

Ok - I didn't follow the link - but .... are sweet potatoes (yams) a vegetable?  My wife loves them, so we had them last night.  I get so few fruit/veggie points....

QueenZipp - 2011-02-02 5:17 PM I did 90% OF MY TRAINING FOR MY LAST HALF MARY ON A TREADY LAST YEAR.
Really? Hm. I've been avoiding the treadmill with the excuse that it's not like wogging outside. So either I need to get on the treadmill, or find a different excuse. LOL Seriously though --- How did you achieve it? Did you just set it to your 'regular pace'? Did you raise it on an incline? Etc.

I know a lady that trained for a marathon entirely on a treadmill.  I can't see running 20 miles in one spot.  (especially knowing how long it would take me)

I will be following the "break 2:00" half marathon plan for the Illinois Marathon come 4/30.  It's a 10 week program.  Lately I'm mostly cross training or resting....this could hurt.   :P

Well I'm getting conflicting answers.  The website says any kind of potato is not a vegetable but after a quick google search some websites say sweet potatoes are so I'm not sure what to count them as... Any other opinions??

First of all...what the h3ll is "king cake"????

Second....sweet potato is a vegetable that is very high in nutrients and should be on everyones diet.  Count it as a serving.  Just make sure you know what a serving size is for sweet potato.  It's smaller than you think!

Morning All and Happy Friday!!! Or at least nearly happy friday for those of you who aren't there yet!

I can tell you its a beautiful hot day again but pretty darned humid.

I am exhausted this week. I am on my first coffee of the day but something tells me it is going to take more than one to get me through the day. Then I plan to cycle to and from training tonight and collapse at approximately 7pm when I get home - can't wait! Also, cooking kedgeree for dinner tonight, mmmmmm.

It is a happy day, Rachel.....
They checked out the right leg and determined my gastrocs is fine.  The issue was more soleus/ achilles tenderness.  We decided last week I did a lot of plyometric stuff prior to my run and that was too much on the leg that had taken all the brunt during the 6 months with the gastrocs tear.
All that to say, I can get on my bike this weekend and run next week.

So, I'm kicking myself because I got super lazy waiting for hubby to come home last night and never worked out...  so now I don't get workout points AND I lose my bonus point for activity every day in the week.  My water was not so good yesterday either...

BUT - I am so proud of myself.  Snickers are by far my FAVORITE candy bar ever.  A while back, my crazy MIL tried to leave a bag full of candy at our house.  I told her NO WAY, get it out.  I don't need that kind of temptation, you know?  Find out later that my hubby kept some secretly...  So, last night, I'm starving.  Cranky.   Finally, my husband says to me "I'm hungry too.  Want to split the last Snickers bar with me"?  And I said...

No Thanks!

I think I get my "saying no" bonus for the week...

Oh, and instead of going home and relaxing with a nice bottle of wine or other relaxing Friday activity...  He wants me to ride with him tonight.  For a whole movie.  2 hours and 10 minutes of move.  Eh, it's quality time with the hubby...  right?

I drag my chubby hubby to the gym....he gets on the elliptical while I swim or lift.

He wanted to buy bikes 5 or 6 years ago, we all bought hybrids.  I am the only one who rides and I got rid of the hybrid a long time ago.

He does run for ice cream though. (and the TV remote)
