chadmcline - 2011-06-06 9:06 AM Mile 2 in the books...how are my fellow swimmers doing?!

Where are you at in the Central Valley?

Modesto!  Not too far from you.

Not far at all!  What are your race plans for the year?  I'm sure we will be crossing paths somewhere during the season.

I just did the Auburn sprint tri and don't have anything on the horizon.  I'm going to do the Auburn one again next year and will probably do a couple smaller ones leading up to it.  I might do one of the tri for fun's in Pleasanton and maybe even the tri for real they have in September.

Do you have any you recommend that are bay area and or central valley that would be a good second tri?

Check out www.tbfracing.com

These guys put on some really nice venues.  The sprint and olympic tris (Tri for Fun/Tri for Real) are out at Ranco Seca (Herald).  The courses are really fast.  Plus, the swim is pretty friendly since there are some easy landmarks to sight for navigation.

Also, the same group holds practice tris out at Folsom Lake on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings.  Just click on their training tab to get the information.

Let me know if you need further info.

ok, got my news from the specialist, not what I wanted to hear at all but based on that, I will join the bike team this month.

I've managed to do a slight tear in my other achilles, so that's a slight tear in my left one last October, and now a slight tear in my right one.  I can do gentle walking, swim breastroke and easy riding (ie no standing up to pedal) this time so bike it is.  Stupidest thing is I did this one while walking backwards 2 steps.  Oh well, at least it isn't 3 months of doing nothing again like last time.

Rest and recover, and feel better soon! Welcome to the bike team!!

Thanks all for the positive feedback on my supervisory reference issue ...

The deal is that I work for the City, specifically the Police Service, and it is City mandate for supervisors to NOT give references for past employees ... it is *supposed* to be easy to move laterally and to apply for promotions, supervisors are supposed to support qualified employees moving on and up - however MY supervisor is, unfortunately, a small mean-spirited spiteful woman ... she's worked there 20+ years with virtually no change, and doesn't like people like myself who challenge or threaten her. (As an aside, this particular position is "Team Leader" - NOT a supervisor - my Section is set up weird it's a long story...)

I've contacted a past supervisor from another Section (I've been with the Service a long time!) but she can only provide a personal reference ... City policy - current employee applying for a promotion (which this is for me) means contact with their current and immediate "supervisor".

Sigh.

When HR calls to say they're doing the reference checks - I'm going to explain the situation tactfully and professionally ... just say that I have some privacy concerns about them contacting my Team Lead and would they mind instead contacting the Section Manager?

Also as an aside - my Team Lead has a terrible reputation in the Service as she cheated on her husband, a cop, with several other cops including high-ranking management .. it broke up their marriage and she's well known in a negative way as it was quite the blow-up - people actually got demoted because of their "indiscretions". So ... hopefully that common gossip will be enough to support my request to HR to contact someone else ...

Sigh.

It'll work out the way it was supposed to, right?! Undecided

Yes it will!! Just hold on.

I'm not going to train today, because I'm going to drink with my friends instead. So pbbbttthhhhttttbbbtthhhh there. Cool

A close friend lives just a few blocks away, and they have a true 3-hole mini-putt in their back yard. Astroturf, landscaping, the whole works. So a bunch of us girls are having a "fruity slushy drink party" and going to hang out and play putt-putt in the sunshine.

WAY better than working out any night. Although I will walk the 5 blocks there and back - back will be twice as long due to the weaving ... I can log that, right? ;-)

I promise I will swim tomorrow. It may not be pretty, but it will be done.

No sweat. The bike team understands if you can't get your swim in...

Wow, lots to catch up on from the weekend when I got sucked in to the crazy home life stuff...

Saturday I got up early and got a ride in.  It was a little cool, but I'm glad I did while the weekend was still quiet.  I forgot my glove, and my wrist was a little sore but felt great about an hour later.  I have one more PT session but I'm considering myself HEALED!  Especially, what I did the rest of the afternoon...  Bike ride was followed up by a soccer game and then about 4 hours of yard work, including hedge trimming.  If my wrist can take that, it can take anything!  Oh, and then the inlaws showed up unannounced for dinner.  Sunday started off sluggish from all the sun the day before...  then dance pictures for both girls.  And by the time we got home hubby had developed a mysterious 101 degree fever (although conveniently after his fishing trip all morning). I spent the rest of the day finishing the hedges and trying to keep me and the kids away from hubby.  We will NOT get sick!  The bummer was that yesterday was our anniversary (8 years)...  I celebrated with a glass of wine and a snoring, feverish hubby on the couch.  Good times.  Frown

Now, I just have to rememeber that I'm on the RUN team...  and go get a RUN in!

Have a late anniversary celebration when the fever breaks?

Major bummer. Frown

I feel your pain

I was hoping for a running reprieve this week but it isn't feeling good so I have another physio appointment today and I do not think it will be a good outcome. No way I can do the marathon in 4 weeks now anyway and I have a sneaking suspicion I won't be running for a good couple of weeks more at all I may have to either pull out or switch to the bike team.

The bike team isn't sooo bad.

I hope that you heal up soon. Sorry about the marathon.

I should REALLY look into something like that... My swim last year (first tri) was pitiful... and my expected performance on round 2 in 7 weeks isn't expected to be much better. I am thinking wet suit this time to give a little advantage.

Right now any jog motion is irritating the leg so I am resting, doing my own soft tissue accuprressure (had them teach me that, remember?) and waiting to see  if I can rehab it on my own.  Just not interested in revisiting PT so soon.

I did try walk jog the day it went crabby again and it made no difference.

Great going fellow bikers (and good going to the remaining Crushers)

I got another session in this morning, I'm a bit behind on the percentages so will need to keep plugging away at it to not let the team down.  Long weekend coming up here so hopefully I'll get some good sessions in then to make up the shortfall to date.

Winter has well and truly arrived down here, all of my sessions are likely to be on the windtrainer in the shed while I re-watch the West Wing DVDs again.  Never snowed in the 10+ years I've lived here in Melbourne, we had snow last month and again last night.  I'm thinking I need to get a heated bed for my dog to use while he sits patiently in the shed with me while I exercise, and looks at me accusingly for not walking him.

I feel for all you poor Victorians right now - we still have a sun on the weather map up in Queensland but its freezing here by our standards and I know you guys have got it hard right now!

chadmcline - 2011-06-06 9:06 AM Mile 2 in the books...how are my fellow swimmers doing?!

It looks like I underestimated how much I would be swimming this month.  Since I haven't been able to bike, I seem to have more desire to get in the water.  Nevertheless, I can't wait to get back on the bike.  I hope to get cleared this Thursday by my orthopedist.... fingers crossed!

As for now, it looks like the guys are holding up the team.  Come on ladies, get healthy and get in the water!!!!!

So, let's see...  Today involved getting up early to get the kids ready, #1 on the bus, #2 to school, work, a swim, picking up the kids, dance class, new shin guards, Walmart, dance again, pick up hubby's rx (that I'm SO happy he decided to get), make dinner, pick berries, kids to bed, clean kitchen, hubby to bed, finish painting kitchen ceiling...  Now finally sitting down and really enjoying this glass of wine!

I can't read this without hearing my wifes voice, it sounds so much like what I hear when I get home late from work and ask her how her day was and what she did, although she would have thrown in some comment about 'man flu' in there

Well, after hearing it came on after a fishing trip, my first thought was it might be brown bottle fever.  However, lasting longer than a day that got ruled out, unless they did some serious drinking on the fishing trip.

Today is my busy day.  Swim, sauna, shower, yoga, lunch, nap time for 2 year old, short bike ride on the trainer, teach Spinning.  Whew!  I'm hoping to fit in park time at some point since it's supposed to be sunny and warm today.  I guess it depends on the length of nap time.  Hmmmm.  I think I'll pack a lunch and eat at the park!  That'll work!  I love being a semi-stay-at-home mommy! Cool
