Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in August! wgraves7582 - 2011-08-08 8:42 AM Howdy Ghoulies - back in the office today and just trying to get everything situated from last week. Nekkid - that is one busy Saturday and way past my bedtime Robin - If I were you I would ride my mountain bike every day. I met a guy who talked to me about Pigsay (Sp??) and that place just sounds awesome!!!! Howdy Bill! When I was closer (which is really means about 45 minutes to an hour) I would go all the time. Now I usually go on the weekends since driving anywhere adds 2 hours to the trip. Plus a lot of the trails are too crowded for my taste these days. Many many of the riders have no knowledge of trail rules and I have one too many times of being knocked over while toiling up hill by Bonazo boys flying downhill with no warning. It tend to go more on the weekends in the fall, winter, spring when there are fewer people out there. There are a host of folks that do night rides on those trails. I just don't like falling that much but Brown mountain is worth it. Just to see the Brown Mountain lights (google that one) The place they were talking about is Pisgah national forest (pronounced piz-gah). Fantastic trails. Then there is the Nantahala National fores with the trails in the Tsali (pronounce Sah-lee) area which is further west of here. My locally favorite is still DuPont State forest or Mills River. Lots of really technical stuff. I am not good enough for a lot of it but I try anyway. Can't beat the views, waterfalls and stream crossings either. |

Elite 4201 washington state | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in August! kcarroll - 2011-08-07 5:16 AM Hoping everyone is having a nice weekend. I got my 10 mile run done yesterday, but it wasn't pleasant. Started feeling a hot spot at mile 6. Nasty blister in the making. Would up walking a lot of the last 2 miles. Oh well, miles are miles. Chilled most of the afternoon. Then got a bit of motivation and started getting caught up on laundry. After a couple loads, my 15+ yo washing machine died in the middle of the rinse cycle. It was a load of sheets. Grrrr. So I have trash bags full of soaking wet sheets. Will take them over to a friends for a spin cycle later this morning. I guess my afternoon will include a trip to the appliance store.
Not fun! Good luck with the shopping. Will you replace your dryer too? |

Elite 4201 washington state | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in August! ironannekidd - 2011-08-08 3:49 AM Good morning Ghoulies! What a weekend! Saturday I was up early and off to the lake to help with the beginner kayaking class. The class runs 90 minutes, and there were 2 scheduled for Saturday morning, there was also rain in the forecast. The first class went off no problem. The second class... well... we no sooner got everyone in the water and it started to rain, but it was pretty light. We teach people how to steer their kayaks and head off to part of the lake to learn about lily pads, and look for wildlife, it was still a light rain. Next we had up part of a creek, we were under some canopy here, but the rain starts picking up. We spent about 20 minutes paddling up one side of the creek, then down the other. By the time we got back to the lake it was POURING. Normally we paddle around the lake, making a complete loop by the time we are done, but not today. We headed back to where we put the kayaks in and got everyone out of the water. The class left, and the instructor and I put the kayaks away. We were soaked by the time we were done. I went home, stripped, put my robe on and took a nap. Saturday evening I headed to Maryland to be a subject for Search and Rescue training. There was still rain in the firecast. Training was at Fort Ritchie, and the Fort Ritchie triathlon was scheduled for Sunday. I saw all of the volunteers setting up, and checked out the bikes people had. There were 20 or so tents on the parade grounds, people were spending the night. Training was in a house, luckily. I hid in a VERY small closet for the first 3 teams to find. I had to breathe through a hose, this was to help the dogs out finding my scent since most had never cleared a building before. I stuffed myself into the closet and played on my iPad. There was a son of one of the training members who volunteered to hide as well, so he hid for the next 3 teams. I went outside and was hanging out with my friends, and it started to drizzle. The remaining teams finished and everyone headed inside to listen to the instructor. I stayed outside to keep an eye on everyone's open vehicles and dogs. it wasn't long until it started pouring again. I grabbed my friend's rain gear and sat under the open hatch of someone's SUV. It was raining hard, the wind was blowing, and I was more comfortable than the people in the building. It was hot and sticky, and no air was moving in there. So after getting up at 6:00, kayaking in the rain, hiding in a closet, sitting outside in the rain, then driving home, I got home by 11:00, tucked myself in by midnight, and the kids had me up at 6:00 on Sunday morning. What a day!
"What a day" is right! Sounds tiring but very interesting! |

Elite 4201 washington state | Subject: RE: Ghoulies are workin' out in August! I didn't jog this weekend, but it would have been an extra session anyway. Sunday afternoon was a BBQ with friends. Very pretty day and lots of fun. I spent a lot of Saturday exercising and socializing Hanna, the german shepherd. She is now 9 months old and 72 pounds. Most of the time she does great being out and about. Ignores other dogs or is mildly interested. But once in a while, she sees a dog and goes nuts barking and carrying on. Don't know what triggers it! Tonight is her first obedience class. She already knows most of the commands, but she needs consistency and distractions. And the socialization with other dogs. I sure hope it goes well. It is a class that is all big dogs, mostly young. |

Good on you for taking her to obedience classes, more people should do this. She's still young so just be patient and stick with it. I read an article a week or two ago that said dogs actually learn better for 2 or 3 training sessions per week, than training every day. Be patient with her, she's just a baby. |
