I just paid for my subscription today. It's totally worth it. Everything from the customer support to the graphical UI are top notch. One of the best triathlon related purchases I made this year. Can't wait to hit up "Half Dome" tonight.

Sure. You can even use my real name if you want, though you might have to put "not the guy who wrote Born to Run" somewhere next to it.

hey nate (or anyone) being a complete tech idiot.  I have the following or will shortly.  I have a powertap 2.4 SL and just recently received the Ant + updater.  Unfortunately after installing the update the hub is no longer sending any kind of signal to the CPU, but that is an issue I will work out with Cycleops.

At any rate, so I have PT SL with Ant +, cycleops fluid 2 trainer, iMac and I also have a Garmin Ant + stick.  Can I assume the Garmin Ant + stick will pick up PT Ant + signal or is there some proprietary signal that will only work with Garmin products.  I guess what I am trying to determine whether I need to buy another Ant + stick or if I can use the one that came with the Garmin 405.

Thanks in advance.

The 405 is ANT + so it should work.  ANT+ is suppose to be an open format, though I think Polar does some sort of private encryption on some of there networks.

You can use the one that came with the Garmin 405. Garmin actually owns dynastream who defines the ANT protocol.

The beauty of ANT is that it's supposed to be an open standard that companies can adopt. A few have decided against this path (I'M LOOKING AT YOU TACX!) but most realize the benefit of having an open standard.

I thought half dome was hard, then I did the 20 minute FTP test and thought that was harder.... Then I got the first sufferfest.... doctors said I might pull through.

You guys rock.

So Nate... not that support is lacking, but are there any plans for a forum to get questions answered. This thread works for me, but just curious.

Specifically, I was wondering about more info on the rides and training approaches. I did Tallac tonight and see your instructions. Perhaps I'm just new and the more I work with it the more I will learn.

Yah, i get noticed when there's a comment on the forum. I might have missed one though.

Do you mean this one?

I haven't gotten around to filling in the answers

Here's a good resource:

Has everything I would write and more! I'll add a link to it in the support forums.

Finally got set up last night.  I was actually making it way harder than it needed to be.  It was after 8, by the time I got on so I just grabbed a short workout and gave it a shot.  I have some calibration tweaks as my Powertap head unit and the software were off by about 10-15%, not a huge deal.

At any rate, I quickly surmised that this is possibly one of coolest things I have ever seen.  I am torn between wanting to promote the heck out of it and wanting to keep it as my secret training weapon at least for a little while.  Don't worry Nate, I am already telling my friends, I can't keep secrets very long.  Honestly, the motivational aspect is incredible, the ease of use with workouts automatically saving to the cloud is awesome.  I can see a time in the future (or maybe its already possible) where you could perhaps set up a challenge group amongst friends.  I was days away from purchasing a computrainer when I heard about this and held off just to see what it was.   I am sure glad I held off.  As far as I am concerned the CT may have just become obsolete.

They are reading the same data, the head unit is probably smoothing the data for the display. Most people use 3-5 secs smoothing. I'm not sure if/what trainerroad does for smoothing.

For some reason this reminded me. Nate, are there any plans to make an iOS and/or android version of the program, so that someone can use an iPad or Kindle Fire? I wouldn't see it as a necessity, especially since the Kindle Fire has no feasible way of using the ANT+ USB dongle.

Wohoo! Thanks

Online racing/training is our major initiative in 2012. It's actually the reason I started this thing. I'm pretty competitive and I want to lay the smack down on everyone .

I need to get fit though...I haven't been training very much because I've been coding so much!

No smoothing yet, but we'll add it later.

Yes, for sure. We've been holding off because it makes our testing so much longer to have to test iphone, ipad, android, mac and pc while we have our full time jobs.

I see us making it when we're working full time on it.

OK, I signed up becuase, as I previously stated, TR makes me want to come down to the man cave and ride the trainer.  The GUI really helps me, a bike novice, in hitting the proper level of power and time.  However, I am having terrible "power" issues.

I purposely did "Hitchcock" yesterday since it had long stretches where you need ot hold the power consistently.  I hope my screen shot come through below, but it is terrible.  The power jumps around and in the end, I do not even come close to the average target.  The funny thing is that my RPE, cadence and HR seem to correlate perfectly.  I cannot believe my stroke is this choppy, so I need some advice.

KK road machine trainer, Garmin GSC10, no powertap to compare.

1.  I just cannot get the speed sensor to be steady.  Tried moving the unit and magnet but no dice.

2.  Cadence is rock steady so at least that component is working.

3.  Tire inflated and tension adjusted for each ride.

4.  The power drops "consistently", meaning if my target is 100, the drop is always 35-37,  target160 is 57-62, etc.

Any advice is appreciated.  I won't be offended if you tell me I s##k and need to bike more. If the screen shot cannot be seen, go to the TR site and look for user cartman1966.

Yah, that's no good! We've had a few other people with problems like that and we've fixed them. Some times it's sensor problems sometimes it's our fault *gasp*.

Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and we'll continue on there so we don't fill up this forum.

But...Just for other people's knowledge I just looked at your ride file and it looks like the speed is getting cut in half once in a while. That's why you're getting the low VirtualPower numbers.

This is probably due to the magnet not triggering each revolution. So when it does every other revolution you get half the speed.

Try re-positioning the magnet so its a little bit closer. CAUTION: You can get TOO close...when you do that you get spikes the other way .

Anyways, try that out and let me know what happens.
