It can be pretty depressing to log on (okay, I never log OUT) and see all the great training and races and toys and whatnot everyone's enjoying when you're laid up.

What are you doing to keep yourself alive/put back together/entertained/less crazy?

Feel free to chime in if you're doing fine and have some love or experience for us.

Hi, I'm Yanti, in the last 16 or so months:

Dengue fever
Concussion
Chikungunya (continuing arthritis)
Typhoid fever
Pneumonia
Concussion + 3 bruised ribs
Dengue fever + typhoid fever (continuing ...)

Today, I slept all day, and I really needed to. Have needed to for a long time.

Hi, I'm Bill and I'm a Triathlete.....

I've been off training for three weeks....

After 3 weeks of feeling sorry for myself post bike crash, shoulder dislocation, collarbone break, I got on the trainer today and sweated thru The Hunted - Sufferfest.  It felt great to get Back in the Saddle Again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I555U5wGns

PT tells me I should be able to get in the water by the end of Jan.  Got HIM in April.....I think I can, I think I can.....

decided to get my knee checked by an orthopedic guy. Have an appointment on Monday. Its not any better and the pain is still there most of the time. Hurts to stand up from sitting position, and can't drive or stand for any decent length of time. I'm not feeling good about this....

I crashed my bike 2 weeks ago and hit my head. I'm not supposed to work out until I've been headache free for 24 hours. I was sort of kind of headache free on Thurs. and on Friday I ended up walking 3.6 miles (not a planned thing, it just worked out that way) and was fine but today I went on a bike ride and after about 40 min. and some mild hills, I had a headache and had to stop.

This is super annoying because I have a marathon coming up in two weeks and I haven't run for 3 weeks not and it looks like I'm not running tomorrow either.

Heya! Haven't posted in a while here ... got way too well way too soon (story of my life, I'm an idiot), totally overdid it, and crashed again with typhoid symptoms.

Been resting (mostly) for 5 days now and put in a wee open water swim today. Though I had to sleep the rest of the day to get over it, it felt good.

IM is looking iffy in March--I'm really starting from scratch again and I cannotcannotcannot afford to get back into it too fast. But I'll try to take it easy, and we'll see.

Slow, Steady, Strong.  Never give up.  Nice work Yanti, Trirun, et al.  Listen to the body and keep pushing....gently.

Most of my list is better by now. My hip/side are good and feel recoverd from the bike fall. The ankle I twisted I have all but forgotten about. It no longer gives me any discomfort when I'm walking around during the day. Thumbs up to all of that!

Now I just have a few side effects from the bike fall. Limping around for a couple of weeks after the bike fall set off my original problem of tendonitis in my right foot but it is not a constant pain - it comes and goes. My back is also slightly angry. I was just at the chiropracter the very day before I fell off the bike. As soon as I fell I thought "Well there goes 50 bucks down the drain". Obviously, that original pain is back .

I am able to bike and swim some harder intervals again. I am also running just the littlest bit. So mostly good news!

Check in everyone - fingers crossed that everyone is healing and getting stronger day by day.

Recovery is not going very well on my side...

Tried to go on my bike on a trainer last week end and had to stop after 10 min as it was totally uncomfortable and painfull.

Stitches seemed to go well but the clavicle not really and the optics of having to do a surgery are going more and more closer... not going for Lake Placid...

Oh well... what's wrong could go worse... gaining weight in the mean time ??

Oh dear, sorry to hear that.

Don't give up on Lake Placid yet ... a lot of time between then and now, although I hear in Canada it can be a long wait for surgery.

Let us know how you go.

Hmmm, I see lots of the usual suspects here. I'll join in 'cause I don't have anything to add to the cool threads about running lots, the existential joys of flip turns, or the relative merits of lowering my aero position.

Mere seconds after I finally pulled the trigger on IMOO 2012 I simultaneously contracted whooping cough (yanti-esque!) and fell off my bike in my first ever cyclocross race. Jury is still out if one caused the other.

Whooping cough is mostly gone now (yep, been about 100 days) but the results of a contrast MRI on my shoulder indicate...disaster! I'll find out for sure tomorrow, but it looks like I'm all in for a scope and repair on my posterior labrum.

Recovery from surgery is looking like fun. And by fun I mean excruciating PT for many months, possibly 6 until I can even swim. Oh it's ok, I don't really like swimming very much unless it involves a swim up bar with fruity drinks served by fabulously good looking bartenders.

FML.

Despite the injuries, I was able to finish IMAZ.  It wasn't pretty, but I got through and my body held up.  I was fully expecting my leg to snap on the run, but race day it felt great and I ran about 75% of it.

I'm far from an expert but the big thing with injuries is to realize you have 3 sports at your disposal, and if you can't do one focus one the others.   All I could do was cycle so I did that alot.  Try not to panic over time, if you're hurt, let it heal and dont rush it.

There's also a faith component involved in all this.  My Achilles tendon hurt all the time, so waiting til it feels better is a misnomer.  Many times I went on a run wondering if I shouldn't or not.  People who have never had these issues don't really get it.  After 2 years its finally feeling quasi normal.

Yanti, I hope you get better and are able to toe the line at the IM.

Good luck with your shoulder. Will you still plan for the IM or just wait to see what the doctor says? That stinks.

Dina, I already am out the $$$ and I think we all know the WTC ain't deferring me so I'll see where I'm at in July when I can get a partial  (150) refund and make the call then. When I mentioned it to the Dr., he said no at first and then said we will see. Clearly I am still in denial.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody

I'm feeling a bit better today, moral is up and down. Yesterday was down, today is up, and when I read the other stories, I'm forcing myself to push trough it to reach the "moral's up".

At the end, I just have a couple of broken bones, it will heal in a couple of weeks.

I went on the trainer tonight for 20 min. It was not really pretty but it is still 20 min of exercise.

I wish you all a good recovery, a good healing and really hoping to see you around a race somewhere
