I'm going to try one of those spin/run bricks tonight! Did it when I would take spin once a week, but haven't been able to since kids started swim classes same day. This month it's moved to Thursdays, woo hoo! I love this class. I thought I was a bad*ss too until I did one of these. I was the only one with a pool of sweat under my bike, haha! It's HAAARD!

brooksinc1976 - 2011-12-07 7:20 PM To my understanding it is not sold out. It is hosted by tri on the run. I think it starts at tri on the run, goes to the park and back.

i will let my sister know....sounds fun

if you go ~ take lots of pictures!

So how much should an off season be an "Off season".  I am struggling a little bit to stay at low level.  I want to do this so that I get a good recovery month in before setting 2012 goals and go all out!  The issue is that as I start to feel 100% I  want to go at 110%.  Is anyone else trying to take it easy, or does it matter?  If I knew I wouldn't burn out by April I would start full TRI training now!!!

I think at a minimum I going to get back to running 6 days a week!

sounds like you like to run!!!  you go!!!

for the off season training is time to reflect on the past and plan for the future ~ my suggestion would be to do a few less runs ~ maybe 4 runs max and make one of those runs each week a longer EASY 2 hour aerobic run ~ work on technique by running drills on other days and if you are a triathlete work on your weakest link of the tri...what is your next planned race?

For me, this "off season" is more of a "pre season" as I'm coming back to tri's after 20 years away. I'm swimming 3 days a week and running 5-6, the only thing I'm neglecting right now is cycling, but a road bike and a trainer shortly after Christmas will remedy that... Mtb riding is sporadic this time of year with freeze/thaw mucking up the trails. I would think I would keep running in the off season as it seems, for me at least, to take the longest time to build safely. My swim endurance bounces back fast as does cycling... But I suppose if depends on the person.

Got a 5 mile run in this am.  It was Florida cold - 43*, 36 if you count wind chill.  Brrr.  I love it! Tomorrow weather will be back to normal, which is nice too.  All in all, a great time to train in Florida.

Assuming it gets delivered as predicted, next week I will start P90x2.  Years ago I used the original P90x and loved it, so I am looking forward to this version.

"Florida cold", that's funny lol. I'm heading out for a 4 mile run, low 30's... Got my cold weather cycling pants out so it should be more comfy than the last few outdoor runs. I'm really hoping It's a mild winter here in MO, I'm beginning to "not hate" running and want to stay at it, I just don't see me running 6 days on a tread... :-(

During the off season I like to snowshoe and cc ski to mix it up a little. I am weak on the bike to I try to work more on that.

My next planned race is most likely a HM in April, which is why I tend to be more run focused! As for tri, the closest race I can find is in June (wo traveling) and I am really starting to get an itch! I finished an hour long trainer session last night and with-in an hour I as ready to go do something else! I try to tell my self december should be for relax and recovery, looking forward to January!

What kinds of drills are you doing? I do 3-4 drills every swim just after my warm up and sometimes after my main set too! Today was a light day in the pool. Drills, speed work, did a 400 for time (PB @5:50) as fast as I would want to go in a Sprint tri. Them some 50's, some 100IMs and warmed it down with some SPL sets, quick transition into a 2 mile run for a short brick... One more run tomorrow then I FINALLY get a running rest day! :-)

I do whatever type of drill the coach tells me to do!  Today we did a warmup of 200 swim, 200 kick, 200 pull, 200 swim

then went into 4x50, scull in front for 25-swim 2d 25; 4x50 slide (?) drill first 25, 4x50 scull under first 25 -swim 2d 25.  Then b/c i was 15 minutes late (I actually got stopped by 2 trains at the same stop), I only had time for a 50.  Those that made it on time had some more sets, but i don't recall them.

Your 400 sounds fast!  Enjoy your off running day!

Wow! Nice 400 time. I used to use swimplan.com to get swim workouts.

Was that your whole workout or was that just the drills.  If it is your whole workout you may want to consider adding a main set with more swimming.  My typical swims consist of warm up, some drills, main set (or2) cool down.  Here is a very basic 2500 yd workout I sometimes use.

WU: 500 easy swim 5x100 or 10x50

Drills:  100 pull,kick,pull,kick,pull

MAin set:  swim ladder 10x100 on a set time ex: 2min  or with 5-10seconds rest

Cool down 500 easy swim,back,swim,back,back

Good Luck.

My sore throat from earlier in the week has officially turned into a full blown head cold! Decided to pass on the trainer session today to get some rest! Didn't want to but probably for the best! Hopefully I feel better on Saturday, if I bail out on my running partner again he may not reschedule!!Looks like everyone is doing some good swim work! I can't seem to get the swimming down, not sure why! Try to swim and always feel like a lead block sinking to the bottom!

After a rough two weeks with my son I've taken a few days off from training competely. While I feel slightly guilty about not working out my mind and body feel great and ready to rock on Monday. Maybe I needed this bit of physical break to get my head back in the game.

Great job everyone on the impressive workouts. I'll be joing you again on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend.

6 mile run this morning... Could I actually be "gulp" enjoying running???? For some reason my last mile was my favorite. Good rhythm, good stride, good HR... Again wanted to keep going but I know I'm ready for a break. 20 miles this week!!! Rest day tomorrow from running, it should be cold enough to ride the mtb 10 miles or so. Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

How do you fix a 3 day old head cold? Take a 6 mile run in 20 degree weather and freeze it out! Made it to my schedule run and it has done wonders for how I feel, maybe it was all the rockets I blew out along the trail!

Hey training partners, looks like a lot of you guys have been out there hitting it hard this weekend.  I took yesterday complete off to hang with my family and relax.  Then hit it today with a 19 mile run!  It was my longest run ever and it'll be the 2nd longest run of all my training for January's marathon.  I felt great (much better than last week).  I did take a few walking breaks and my pace isn't exactly what I wanted it to be (goal: >10:00 min/mile, acutal: 10:27 min/mile), but I'll take it!

Hope you guys enjoy what's left the weekend.
