Name: David

Location:  Atlanta

Background: Played soccer and baseball in high school.  Ran cross-country in college, plus a lot of local road races.  I ran a marathon in 1992; injured my knee, but finished.  Took up playing softball and drinking beer in law school and the pounds started piling on.  About this time last year with a kid on the way, I decided I needed to get back into shape.  Joined this MG, started a C25K, and bought a bike.

Family Status:  Married 6 years to my wife, Emily.  We have one happy 6 mo. old baby boy named Tommy.

2011 Races:  The Warrior Dash, a couple of 5K's and my first triathlon (Tri the Parks series) in September.

2012 Races: I am looking at 5 road races and 5 triathlons for next year including my first Oly in September and a HM in November.  The schedule is on my profile page.

Current Training:  A proud member of team yellow!  Nothing but running since early October to build up a stronger running base.  I am actually enjoying running again.

Goals: No longer have the option of entering as a Clydesdale.

What I Bring to the MG: Nothing.  I am a parasite.  I feed off you people.  Give me more!

Name: Terps421 (Linda), resident of MARYLAND!

Family: Married to Paul for 21 yrs. and we have 2 wonderful teen girls and a Golden Retriever named Marley.

Background: I am a newer elementary teacher after being a Biologist for 15 yrs. I have always loved running but wanted to do a triathlon. In 2009, I started with a duathlon and was hooked on cycling. Then I focused on my limiting agent, swimming and completed several tris. When I had a breast cancer scare I signed up for my first marathon, loved the distance & completed 7 more including Boston. I have been a member of this MG for 2 yrs. and I have to say the members here are some the nicest people I hope to ever meet!

Past races: Boston, Baltimore, many 1/2 and full marathons, sprint Du's and Tri's.

Future races:  I am registered for a few in 2012, but I have to get healthy first after being sick for a while, I have my sights set on an HIM maybe Beach 2 Battleship.

What I bring to our MG: I have a little running knowledge and a lot of encouragement to give. I love the inspiration the other members give me when they go after their goals. I am truly in AWE of all the wonderful people here who have completed HIM's and IM's...they are amazing!

Linda:  Speaking as someone who completed an IM this year -- it is I who am in awe of you.  Anyone who qualifies for and completes the Boston marathon is truly inspiring in my book.  (And, as a fellow Marylander, I love that that was what you chose to capitalize in your bio.)

New skis for the family for Christmas. Great day on the mountain but my 8 year old is already a better skier than me. Counted today as my cross train day. Not so much the skiing but getting the family on the lift was a workout.Last few posts from the phone, sorry for the format. For those that are new, don't be afraid by the speed of the forum! Just jump in when you can. The regulars here are amazing people and are very inclusive.

I know its getting crowded in here but would really like to join this group.

Name:  John (43)

Story:  I had knee surgery a year ago (Nov 2010) and was sitting in my bed the day after and thought it would be a good idea to sign up for an IM.  I had done a couple of sprints but nothing serious.  I have always been a terrible swimmer.  Signing up for the event was a great motivator to get off the couch.  It wasn't pretty but I did Louisville in August.  I struggled but I finished.  So now I want to go back and rock it in 2012.

Family Status: Married for almost 18 years and have 3 kids (9, 7, and 3).  My wife is my rock and nothing phases her.  Even weekly 5 hour bike rides.

2011 Races:  Indy Mini, Muncie 1/2 IM, and Louisville IM.

2012 Races:  Martian Marathon in April, Indy Mini in May, Muncie 1/2 IM in July, Louisville in August, Fall Marathon TBD.

What can I bring to the group?:  A quick wit, mixed with a bit of sarcasm, some political incorrect advice, and a slackers heart.   I log most days unless I am traveling and will be active on the thread.

Thanks

WTF, I'll sign up, too.

Name:  Baxter

Story:  Not much of one.  I drank beer for the past 14 years and put on some weight.  One day, out of the blue, I decided I was going to do a triathlon.  Might have been the beer talking, but I signed up and finished 15 minutes under my goal time.  So, that made me want to do more.  And here I am.

Family:  Married with a 6-month old boy of the same name, but with Jr. on the end of it.

Training:  As much as I can when I can (get motivated to get my butt out of bed).  I plan to run 3+ times per week, swim 2+ times per week, and bike as often as my butt allows.

2011 Races:  Tri! Ballantyne Sprint distance.

2012 Races:  I'm shooting for 5 or more races this year as well as the local Warrior Dash and possibly the time trial series at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Goals:  Lose at least 40 pounds this year.  Quit smoking (yeah, I know right),  Train and race the equivalent of 30 Iron-distance races this year.  Get my wife to sign up for a race.

What Do I Expect From BT Mentoring:  Someone to hold me accountable and give me an endless supply of siht if I don't exercise at least 6 times per week.

What can I bring to the group?:  Beer and BBQ.  I know very little other than what I have read here on BT in the past 8 months.  But, I enjoy reading the site and hope I can contribute something at some point.

SERIOUS QUESTION ALERT!!!!!!!!

How do people fit marathon training in with tri training?

I'm looking at doing a marathon either in July or August (Gold Coast or Brisbane) but I'd also like to do a HIM in early June and I've got Oly's in March, April and October.

I like to follow a plan but any advice on how to combine these different goals??

The Marathon would be my first and I'd just like to finish it feeling good and start it feeling well prepared.

first off welcome!

second, dude... you need to quit smoking and i mean right row.  not to be a d+ck right off the bat but i'm not sure how you you can post something about us holding you accountable for workouts yet you smoke?  i'd suggest you stop reading this.  go take a look at that beautiful young son of yours (CONGRATS!) and figure out how in a few years you might have to explain to him that you smoked and now you have cancer ripping your body apart and you're not gonna see him grow up. quitting smoking is hard.  there's a few of us here who can attest to that.  but you can do it.  no more using smoking as a limiter.. yeah, i read your race report.  nice job!

some tri stuff that may be useful....

looking at your this weeks logs... finding the right saddle in a couple rides is going to be tough.  looks like you got a demo from a local lbs.  i wouldn't bother with that. go to cobb cycling, here, and contact them.  they make some great stuff and have a 6 month return policy. i'm on one.  several other folks here are on one as well.
