I'm still going to use the data, because the zones seem pretty accurate for trainer rides for me. Heartrate seems to climb much, much higher when I'm riding outside. My legs are tired. Recovery run this afternoon. Christmas shopping this afternoon (just odds and ends). That ought to be fun. People are so kind and patient in stores this time of year Last time I did my 30 min test my monitor started showing crazy numbers about 20 mins into it. It said my rate was in the 80's and then it would jump into the 150's and then back to 80's. I had to just guestimate my avg. So I feel for you. Good luck shopping! |

I could be wrong, but I do remember reading that you have to slightly dampen or wet the contact points on the Heart Rate monitor where it touches your skin, or it will jump all over the place like you explained. I've experienced the same thing when I forget to do that. Edited by rizer22 2011-12-21 8:45 AM |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED The other day I did the 20 minute test (which is really an hour long workout) on trainerroad. I paired up my HR strap & the speed cadence sensor, but forgot to tell the program what type of trainer I was using. So, while the test was successful in calculating my LTHR for that 20 minute all out test portion, I was really wanting a virtual power number at the end. I'm going to attempt this again today, and hope I can figure it out, because that workout kicked my butt! I don't want to have to do it again! |

I think it might be a battery issue for me I changed the battery on the strap but not in the computer. |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED So out running this morning I stepped on a rock, completely wiped out and have a high ankle sprain in my left ankle. I had this ankle surgically reconstructed in 2006 so this is not a particularly good development. No running for a bit. Looks like I'll be water running (so much fun). |

Kelly has forced in into my schedule the last month and I feel much better and feel like I can run longer without as much wear and tear! I too followed Kelly's advice for running and started training by HR this year. It helped me tremendously. I don't know what I've gotten any faster, maybe a little, but mostly it's improved my endurance (which has always been lacking) by allowing me to go longer and not feel completely wiped out. Extreme Veteran 610 San Francisco CA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Planning to get back on the bike tonight for the first time since Ironman - going to do 45 min to an hour on the trainer. It's been a month since the race and I feel like I'm finally starting to get my motivation to train back again. I have a half marathon I'm planning to run in 7 weeks. I'm trying to decide how far I should run for my first "long run" since IMAZ this coming weekend. All my runs since the race have been 3-4.5 miles so I was thinking I'd shoot for 6.5 to 7 miles for my long run this weekend. For those of you who have started back after Ironman does that sound about right? I don't want to come out of the gate too quickly but I'm feeling pretty good and looking forward to getting back to doing some longer runs on Sundays. I miss them. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Nobody is out of there league in this mentor group ... this is a group for everyone, from running, swimming and biking, to beginners and experienced people. Never feel embarrassed to ask questions (about anything, this thread has been to a lot of places in the last year), there is a lot of knowledge to gain from this group and if even a small bit of that knowledge makes you better or faster, then the group is thrilled!!! |

I think 6 to 7 miles sounds like a good long run to start back with. I made the mistake of not really taking any time off and really struggled with motivation after about a month. I'm not very good about that. See how that feels and adjust up or down accordingly. |

Everyone on here is at different levels, and has various goals. We're here to motivate each other, learn and improve, and have a fun time. Don't ever feel intimidated, ask anything you want. Like Carrie said, this group last time went in many different directions. It can get quite entertaining. |

Member 117 Boulder, Colorado | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Thanks Carrie and Karen. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. I'm feeling like I'm on information overload right now! I don't have too many specific questions right now since I'm just marathon training at the moment, which I've done many times before. But as things get closer, I'm sure there will be a lot. My question for everyone right now is what do you wish you knew going into your first IM? What do you NEED to do in training, and what is helpful but not really necessary? (My goal is just to finish respectably and have fun for my first one.) From everything I've seen/read/heard it seems like it would be really easy to get hung up on specific training methods, testing, and equipment, but lots of them also seem like just extras that help you get better once you've already got the basic ability to actually DO an IM. |
